ice beam, which can be reached after lower norfair
Hey Bolognab, the Japanese made a playthrough vid of your hack:

http://www9.atwiki.jp/catnap222/pages/417.html

The first part starts off with some bizarre collection of stuff from different points in the game before it starts the playthrough in earnest.

Actually, it's not a "bizarre collection of stuff", it's the demo that automatically starts at the title screen if you don't press any buttons.  Almost every hack, as well as the original Super Metroid, has this.  Definately cool though.... :-)
Oh ok, I didn't realize it was the demo. I wasn't expecting them to actually watch that before they started the hack.
I can't believe it. This makes me very happy! The person actually plays the game after the demo.
I'm nearly done with the hack; all I have left to do is Tourain.  For the most part I've enjoyed it a lot, the heated suitless runs in particular.  I found all 14 energy tanks legitimately, along with all the major equips aside from plasma and x-ray (although it seems maybe only the spazer is really optional).

I do have some complaints though.

Plasma spoiler:
The plasma beam is ridiculously hidden.  Putting it behind a hidden grapple block (where you have no reason to suspect there would be such a block) is just silly, especially when the X-ray is damn near impossible to find.

X-ray spoiler:
The X-ray is even more ridiculously hidden.  Requiring the player to try and ice beam glitch through a ceiling which has absolutely every appearance of being totally solid throughout is nuts.

Of course, I used SMILE to find the locations of these items.  Hats off to anybody who found them legitimately, especially the X-ray scope.  Even WITH SMILE and knowing what room the X-ray scope was in, it was STILL hard to figure out how to get there.

I really don't like to see the ice beam ceiling glitch in a hack; moreso than the many other glitches in the game (which mostly add to the gameplay), this glitch feels like a true glitch.

There are also quite a few places in the hack where it is possible to get stuck or to freeze the game using the grappling beam.  I froze the game maybe 4 times in the old spazer room getting stuck in the upper right spikes while trying to get to the door.

I really shouldn't have hidden the x-ray so mischievously. Just wanted to see if any players would legitimately find it.

Plasma was also hidden very well, because it makes mother brain so easy it's not even funny. But if a player is lucky enough to find it, all the better for him/her!

Also, I'm very glad someone other than me and Dmantra appreciate heat runs! Hope you enjoy the rest of the hack.

Oh my god, that japanese guy SBed the living hell out of the hack.  Shocked
Sorry to bump this, I thought the video would be able to answer my questions, but my situation turns out differently than the other player:
I'm playing the easy version, and have just passed the speedball tunnel next to the save point in Norfair. The next room requires you to Speed Echo kill the enemy's (Green, large mosquito type enemy's , sorry don't know there names) for the grey doors to start blinking. In the video both enemy's in the lower part of the room are close together so one speed echo kills them, but when I do the same thing, they're on opposite ends of the room. I only have space to do 1 Spineshark, because you have to shoot through the floor after charging it (esentially cutting the running area in half).

My question is, how do I get both of the enemy's on the same side of the room without having to shoot through the floor? Since the blocks there don't replenish unless I leave the room the way I came.

P.S. I've already left the room and tried again to see if their configuration had changed, but alas it doesn't seem too.

Thanks for any help. :)
the metroid is a lie !

The key is a technique called...

Mockball

And yes.  You'll need to do it on that small slope.

Here's another(?) video.

the metroid is a lie !
i know how too mockball, it help a hell of a lot at the earlyer stages  Rolling Eyes, i was wondering on how to get accross without falling through the blockes every time lol, cheers anyway.

You need to mockball into that 1 block high area.  That's what I meant when I said "You'll need to do it onto that small slope".  If you're going fast enough you should be able to make it across.  Don't be afraid to use slo-mo if you have to, or just keep trying.

Good luck.

Edited for clarification/technicality.
the metroid is a lie !
cheers, gaius Very Happy

"The IPS file was patched, but the data appears to be truncated or misaligned."

Is anyone else getting that message when they patch a file? It's giving me this when I go to patch Precision on a .smc file.
What'd you say?

What are you using to patch? I suggest Lunar IPS, and also, make sure your rom is unheadered.

I am using Lunar IPS, and I am using an unheadered rom.

EDIT: Size of the original file (Super Metroid (JU) [!]) is 3072 KB.
What'd you say?
I dunno what tell you then.
Ugh, well it's not the rom, or the Lunar IPS itself. I just tried patching a different IPS to another copy of the original file and it works perfect.

Probably it's something in the Precision patch itself. I ignored the "error" my first time through and got all the way to Lower Norfair, then when I went down into the room past the save point (super missile door, then wave beam to open up the little draygon rolly polly or whatever you call those things), the room was thoroughly glitched out. One the bubbles in the room had spike properties, and another bubble had the power to crash the game.
Have you tried re-downloading and re-applying the patch?  I got this message once with a different patch (I can't remember which hack it was), tried to play, and experienced the same thing.  The game worked fine but then I encountered glitches that prevented me from finishing.

I re-downloaded the patch, re-applied it to a clean ROM, and didn't get the error message.  After that it worked fine.  So it might be a weird thing that happens once in a while.  FWIW, I also use Lunar IPS.
Stuck, its driving me mad because I believe I am doing it correctly.

So I am running, morphing in mid air, trying to catch the ledge above the water on the right. What is the problem?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I just replied in the Redesign thread, and now realise you meant this hack. Razz

It's just a tough jump.

You need to ensure that the water is at its lowest when you reach the ledge if you're wall-jumping, and if you're trying the morph method, you just need to be very accurate with your timing.
Right, I had tried both ways and taken the water into account. I thought I was good at Super Metroid!!! aaaahhh!!!!

I'll get it, thanks though =D
Man, I can't even make it past the big pink room in Brinstar (right after the room with the thing that teaches you to shinespark). I can't kill the Kihunters leading to Spore Spawn, and there doesn't seem to be anything in the long watery corridor behind the Charge Beam. The route to the walljumping guys is blocked by a blue gate, and every other way is blocked.

There is a bomb block in the floor of the corridor behind where the charge beam is.

I am stuck on this damn jump to Kraid lol. I refuse to use slowdown!!.
