I can't watch the WIP 4 with 1.1 I downloaded from page 10, I'm using the same emulator Lance linked to there too. The screen stays black after the beginning and you see the input, just not the game.

You should patch the unheadered rom.

Woot! took me forever to find it (finally got it from saturn's page grin new), but yeah, snes9x v1.43 v9 worked. Now I just have to actually watch the smv...

edit: watched the smv.

Sparking through lava = ftw

Also, something I noticed in WS, Kriole took the faster route in the top right room, but how many of you knew the other route through that room?
those robots can be killed by regular bombs?
Almost happy

I never looked for another path since I could easily glitch through the robots.

I somehow missed the update. but nice spark through lava.

Hmm.. talking about entertainment. Isn't it time someone created a SM superplay? Not aiming for speed and only doing very shiny tricks. I'd very much love to watch that.

I actually thought of doing this, there are some very impressive tricks I could think of.  Its hard to get motivated, though, when you know people will still bash it for not having a great time.

Great job on the TAS by the way, just watched the whole thing.  I'd say its of pretty good quality, so don't beat yourself up over mistakes or anything like that.  Looking forward to your next WIP for SMI

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
Very good hack so far. It allows me to brush up on my skills. And some skills I never even practiced (just tried once and thought that's that) are now coming into constant use. Lot's of fun, stays interesting for a hack that seems so much like the original. I'd call Gravy the older meaner brother.
I never finished Gravy, due to it being annoying (at least, the part I was at)

That super missile block hidden in the green Brinstar room floor, pissed me off immensely when I found out that's where I was supposed to go.  On my 20th time bombing through there, it decided to show itself.

Is the rest of the hack like this?  (Before I continue)

This is the only hack I haven't finished yet.

I'm stuck at WS (well, the upper crateria room you exit from.) There's a grey door to that 'room in a room' room. room room, room's room.

Also
was phantoom suppose to be that easy? Was a very glitchy battle too. I only lost 1 tank.

Well, that room's room problem... try refilling on the bugs.

phantoon was easy for some, hard for others, my main goal was to make it different.

If you didn't like that part, there are other parts of Gravy you won't like, but once you get more items, the path starts to be more obvious. I hope you decide to finish it.

Thanks, wait until you see Gravy's "older meaner brother" AKA the hack I'm currently working on. I'd say I'm about 1/3 of the way done. Being sick has its uses. Sinus infections are apparently the best way to get work done on a hack.

That was really... sneaky.  8-)

If by sneaky, you mean sneaky and ingenius, then yes. yes it was  extra_smug

To be truthful, When I was first making Gravy, I had no intention of releasing it to the public; I was just seeing what SMILE I could do successfully with SMILE. I was always a big fan of the enemy based doors in the original (cool flavor, gotta secure the area to move on), and I wondered how it would work with respawning enemies. Once I figured out that the correct unknown value for the door was 0C, it took me about 2 days to realize the reason it wasn't working was because I never changed the "enemies to clear room" value. Also, to all of you who complained about having to kill the bugs to progress, you're lucky (and I'm glad)I reduced the number from its original 35 enemies to clear room.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
I think I may be stuck in the springball room.

Edit: I read back on the thread but I've never pulled off a CF. Only move I haven't done, even though it has the most standard buttons to press, also, with my keyboard I cant press more than 3 buttons at a time without it beeping at me.

I've noticed a few crumble blocks that seem impossible to get past, and if they require CF then I may be screwed here..
the room after the first mockball room in brinstar, the secret passage in the original charge beam room
Almost happy
You can always change the button layout temporarily, that usually makes it possible.

-smacks head- good idea. For a second I thought this was the only hack ever where a controller is required.

Well, I think you're the first to say they couldn't CF. most other people said that mockballing was too hard. This is the layout I use, and it works well:

Keyboard key=Controller Button

A=Left
S=Down
D=Right
W=Up
Q=L
E=R
Enter=Start
Spacebar=Select (item cancel)
Left Arrow=Y (shot)
Down Arrow=A (dash)
Right Arrow=B (jump)
Up Arrow=X (item select)

For some reason (maybe cause the buttons are on the same sides as a snes controller) this layout has never failed me.

Also:
Charge beam room requires no CF, look for a different way
Every Bit Counts
mine is

up -> up
left -> left
down -> down
right -> right
b (aka run) -> LShift/S (Depends if I'm TASing or not)
a (aka jump) -> a
y (aka item cancel) -> e
x (aka shoot/charge) -> d
start (aka menu) -> enter
select (aka item select) -> space
l (aka aim down diagnol) -> s/q (Depends if b is on Shfit or s)
r (aka aim up diagnol) -> w
turbo x -> x
turbo l -> c
frame advance -> \

I can go into more deatil if you want. I can CF fine.

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
I've just never needed to use a CF before. Changing the button layout worked perfectly.
Back when I used to play the snes I think some of the requirements weren't met properly, like I had some reserves left while trying. It's just never been a move I've felt the need to use/try out.

Not looking forward to the large spike/sand/crumble room before draygoon. The one thing I never liked about SM was the quicksand, just annoying.
I know you said you don't use savestates too often, but save a couple times before that room. Unless you're very good with aiming the grapple beam, you'll take quite a bit of damage, and be in the quicksand for a while. However, if you are good with the grapple, there won't be any quicksand, and you can probably get through losing less than 100 energy.

If you're using a mac, a working config (mine) is:
arrow keys for D-pad
X to run, C to jump, D to shoot, S to unselect, E for R, Z for L, Shift for Select, and Enter for Start.
Old windows keyboards will recognize A, S, D, and F pressed at the same time.
My config is:

Arrow Keys = directions
A = Shoot
S = Dash
Z = Cancel
X = Jump
D = Down Angle
C = Up Angle
Right Shift = Select
Enter = Start

These controls have never failed me.  Only thing is that I swap C and D both to D for CFing.  That's the only quirk for me.
Well, I just realized that with my config, I cannot perform a running jump while charging my beam, but come to think of it, I've never had to. I also cannot run, charge and change weapons, but that is truly never needed, nor does it make sense.

Good Job Dmantra! Honor listed! Fairly quick first playthrough, nice %, and you only asked for help (I think) once or twice.

Did you miss any key items, or did you just miss expansions?

Hey Kriole, how's your TAS coming along? also, does anyone have a good any% route? or am I just going to half to make it up myself?
