nice segments  Shocked  chykka got to be the hardest boss without sj, it's gotta be hard to keep the floaty jump? I have never made it so far wthout space jump so I don't really know :(

well I gotta get busy, trying to beat echoes without sj is not a pice of cake laugh new  keep up the good work
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Thanks SE and tuomii.

The Chykka battle is indeed more challenging while trying to keep the floaty jump.  In a week or so, you should be able to see just how I will manage.  I've gone a long way with Chykka battle.  The best defense is to beat him quickly in all of his modes (especially the 2nd dark form).

For an update, segment 13 is completed and on tape.  The key trick was the roll jump gravity boost (thanks to Mr Potter) used to escape from Alpha Blogg's room after beating him.  I save back at the Torvus Lagoon Save Station.  The time is 1:12 (+7min from last seg.) with 21% (gravity boost).

The next segment will cover Chykka and end back at the Great Temple.  Then it's on to Sanctuary Fortress.

On a side note, I'm trying to figure out the exact route I'll take to get the Sky Temple Keys after I beat Quadraxis and get the Annihilator Beam.  I had watched SE's run to see what route was taken, and I don't think I'm going to take that route.  I just don't think is well suited for the no-space-jump game.  My reasoning is this:

-For pretty much each key, I have to do some trick that if I messed up on, I would lose too much time trying it again.
-I wanted to get the keys in one area, then save somewhere nearby.
-Every area's closest save station is too far out of the way.

Since I couldn't find a good route where I would be able to save directly after getting the area's keys then going to the next area without a lot of backtracking, I decided to just use the Great Temple as a hub.

First I plan on getting the Temple Grounds keys on the paths to Agon and Sanctuary Fortress, but NOT Torvus (I'll save that till before I get to the Sky Temple).  Then, using Great Temple Save Station as a hub, I'll get all the keys from Agon, go back to the Great Temple to save, then do the same for Sanctuary Fortress.  Finally I'll get the ones in Torvus, go out from Torvus Lagoon, then head toward the last Sky Temple Key on the way to the Sky Temple.

This way also acts as a demonstration for the tricks I have to do in each area to get the keys.

Thoughts, anyone?

Update (6/19/06)

Segment 14 (Chykka segment) is done and on tape.  This is probably the most important segment of my run, a MAJOR milestone at least.  I also dub this is as the half-way point of the run.  I start at the Save Station in Torvus Lagoon, go to Chykka, then save back at the Great Temple Save Station.  The time was 1:22 (10 minutes).  I was VERY pleased with the Chykka battle.  I conserve my beam ammo for the larva stage, using just charged power beam shots and super missiles.  For the adult stage I use Dark Beam shots most of the time to stun Chykka, then use the seeker missiles for the wings.

After the battle I go out the Torvus entrance.  I don't float over the gate in Forgotten Bridge to lower the gate, because it just takes too much time and is an instant speed run killer if you have to restart the float for any reason.  When I go back for the Sky Temple keys I'll just go through Torvus Grove using the my no-SJ trick there.

Next segment is the beginning of Sanctuary Fortress up to the Main Gyro Chamber Save Station.

As for the preview uploading, that probably won't happen for another 2 or 3 weeks or so.
am i capturing/uploading this run? i forgot.

just curious.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Umm, good point.

My original plan was to record everything, uploading the previews.  Then when the whole run is complete, I send the tapes to 'someone' to have it professionally captured for the official videos.

You're probably the best choice to give the tapes to, since you have all of the setup.  I think that's the way it'll go if it's okay with you.

I'm physically unable to send the tapes right now, but maybe in 3 or so weeks I might be able to do it...

What thinkest thou?
i like thinkst better, but yeah, should be no prob. safe to say the quality you would get through me would annihilate the quality available through anyone else who might be willing to capture it. and that's a good thing for everyone.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Sorry for the lack of response.  My internet went down.  BUT, I'm finally back from deployment and should have a good number of time.  Hopefully I can finish this run before I take vacation in mid-July for a couple of weeks.

Hopefully in a week I should have all the latest segments online.  Hopefully...

Nate, hopefully I can get the initial VHS casette sent out to you in a week or so.  We'll see.
ok, i'll be in my new place in a week so i can give you the address at that time.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Well, I finally got Segment 14 (Chykka) uploaded.  Segment 13's coming soon, too.

You can view the preview for Segment 14 at:
http://www.freewebtown.com/tttjp/index.html

Hope 'ya like.

As soon as I get Segment 13 uploaded, I'll continue working on the first Sanctuary segment (Segment 15, up to Main Gyro Chamber).
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
O.K.

Segment 15 is now done and on tape. The time now is 1:29 (7 min.) with 24%.  It's from the Great Temple through Sanctuary Fortress to the Main Gyro Chamber Save Station.

The notable spots are hopping on the Rezbit's shield to get to the Reactor Core, and climbing the reactor core.

The next segment(#16) is the Spider Guardian segment.  I'll then go all the way back to Great Temple to save since I have to get the main Power Bombs and I can't get through Watchstation Access without Space Jump.

Segments #13 and #15 should be uploaded in a couple of days.
greate Shocked  I really like seg 14 with chykka, you make it look easy.
why didin't you save just before the battle, it would make the segment easier :-s
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Hehehehe.  ...To be honest with you, Chykka wasn't the hardest part of the run for me.

The parts from Forgotten Bridge all the way up to the area before Chykka was the hardest, because if you mess up any of the tricks, they one way or another mess up the run before you even get to Chykka.

EDIT: Update!

Already then, I finally have segments 13 & 15 uploaded.

Segment #15 is the first segment in Sanctuary Fortress.  The notable sections are:

1) The room before the Reactor Core where I use the Rezbit's shield to get on top of the platform you normally couldn't without space jump.
2) Climbing up the Reactor Core -- a small chore without that second jump.  I eventually make it, though and include the very difficult tweaked 3bj that gets the maximum height.

My time ended in: (Will EDIT in later)
The percentage was: (Will EDIT in later)

Next segment (#16) is the Spider Guardian segment.  This is going to take a lot of practice because I'm very inconsistent when it comes to placing the bombs at just the right moments and maneuvering to just where I need to be to get to each section quickly.  Quite simply I stink at it right now.

I'll then save back at the Torvus Lagoon Save Station.  That's because I need to get the main power bombs first to get further.

Oh by the way, for segment 13:

Most notable is the underwater roll jump gravity boost to get out of the Hydro Chamber where the Alpha Blogg was.  I was stunned to get the tricky jump right the first time every time I made recording attempts.  It just takes a lot of good timing to get it correctly -- and I did.

The other thing is that you'll notice that the video cuts out right JUST before I get to the Save Station.  That can't be helped now since I "backed up" right after the Chykka segment(#14).  I don't think it's that bad -- definitely not bad enough to warrant restarting the run.  THAT I'm definitely not doing.

Spider Guardian, here I come!
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Ok.  BIG update.  Segments 15 - 19 are done, on tape, and the previews will be uploaded in the next few days.

So on to the reviews:

Segment 16 (Spider Guardian, 10 min. segment)

Made a little booboo in the Worker's Path, trying to scan the kinetic orb cannon - about 10 seconds.  I'm not too fond of the Spider Guardian in general because I'm not very good at bombing him at just the right time.  In this segment I had the best battle so far, so I decided to not try further and just moved on.

Segment 17 (Power Bomb Guardian, 8 min. segment)

I had a pretty good fight.  Not perfect, because I fell down going toward the first slot.  After that, I didn't have any other trouble.  I stopped a couple of times to fight enemies only because I was trying to get power bomb ammo for the Main Gyro chamber.  Unfortunately, the enemies didn't want to drop any, so I had to go out of my way to get them (shown in the next segment).

Segment 18 (Dark Samus 2, 5 min. segment)

The worst part was that I had to go back to the room before Main Gyro Chamber two times to get power bomb ammo.  None of the enemies wanted to drop it.  Other than that, the Dark Samus 2 battle was pretty good.  I used silent(((((echo)))))'s technique to quickly get to the portal at Ing Hive Summit, conveniently a very good no-SJ technique.  I did a dash jump to reach the Echo Visor.

Segment 19 (Caretaker Drone, 7 min. segment)

The Caretaker Drone's probes are pretty difficult to hit because the camera is in a messed-up position for the whole battle.  You end up missing them.  The way around this (for the first round anyway) is to "test" where your boost will go and just wait for the probe to show up.  For the 2nd and 3rd stages it's best to hang out at the edges of the spiderball tracks.  Here you can see electricity that shows what direction your boost will travel.  I still missed a couple of times, but overall it was a good battle.
At the end I open the portal that enables you to get the screw attack.  I then travelled back via the Watchstation Access back to Main Gyro Chamber Save station.

My time so far is 1:59, with 31% of items.  I should have no trouble getting under 3 hours.

The next segment (#20) is where I finally get the screw attack, and will be the next milestone in the no-SJ run.

I haven't took my time to wacth this last 4 segments, so I was about to check them out but when I click on them it say " not found" :-s , you should take a look at it.

and btw are still working on the run?  Wink
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Thanks tuomii for pointing that out.  I appreciate the interest.  I had forgotten the ".avi" extension to the files.  The links on my previous post should download correctly now.

Also, I've also put the links at http://www.freewebtown.com/tttjp/index.html

As for the run, I was on leave (vacation) for a couple of weeks and right now am separated from my GameCube until next week or so.  That's when I'll start picking up on the next segments of the run.

Before I left I had ALMOST gotten the next segment completed (screw attack) but it had too many stupid mistakes in it to accept and I never captured it.

I really can't wait to get back to the run.  It'll feel so good to actually have the screw attack.

After that I need to just practice up on Quadraxis, then it'll be Light Suit and Sky Temple Keys for me!!!
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Alrighty, finally an update.  I just completed segment 20 where I FINALLY get the Screw Attack, then travel to the save station before Quadraxis.  It took me long enough to finally get this out.  It's an 8-minute segment, bringing the stats so far to 2:07 with 32% items.

I consider this to be the second major milestone in the run, because it seemed utterly impossible to reach the spinners in Vault (where the Screw Attack is) without the space jump when it was first attempted.  But, thanks to Mr Potter and his "Reverse Morph" trick, which uses the terminal falls to place you on the platform where the camera last was, it was finally pulled off.  I use the trick ALL throughout Vault as you'll see in the preview when I get it captured and uploaded tonight (hopefully).  I'll EDIT it in later.

--

Quadraxis (next segment) really won't be hard.  The only "difficulty" is beating him with some sort of speed.

Then after him, I'll get the light suit and set out to the individual areas to retrieve the Sky Temple Keys...

=================
EDIT: Here it is finally...

http://www.zeromission.co.uk/tjp7154/mp2nosj/New_Run/segment20sm-.avi

I think this segment is the most entertaining of the whole run.

Here's a recap of the segment for those who weren't around when the techniques were discovered:
--
In the room with all of the dark puffers and the grapple points, I go through without hitting the puffers.  This is normal, but it's difficult because if I don't lock my view in the right position at the right height, I'll lock onto the puffers instead, sending me plummetting into the abyss.

After I get to Grand Abyss via the portal, I do two BSJ's -- one to the side platform, then one to the platform with the door to Vault.  The difficulty is in strafing.  You have to press the L button right after jumping and not too soon or you mess up.  You could also do 2 3bj's, instead.

Vault is the biggy in this run.  I use the 'reverse-morph' (RM) extensively there.  I could get to the 2 platforms to the left and right with a 2bj, but I can't get to the first spinners and any of the other platforms without space jump.

The trick to the RM is that the game places you on the platform "THE CAMERA IS LAST ON" when you fall into a terminal fall.  This is what happens most of the time.  To get the camera to do that I have to either jump backward and morph right before I get to a platform, or kip-dash (or scan dash) then quickly turn my back to the platform and morph.  It's pretty tricky.

For the tinted platforms it's not tha bad, but with the spinner platforms closest to the door you have to get sufficient height to do it.  Mr Potter first discovered that if you did the scan dash while a rezbit hit you, you got a little bit of extra height.  He was able to do it that way.  That was  pretty hard, though because of the randomness.

The reason why I make it without using the rezbits to "boost" me is because when you scan-dash off the VERY edge of a platform, you get a little boost in height.  It's still quite difficult but not random.  It just takes a lot of practice.  I make quite a few misses doing it.

To get back to the portal I activate the portal before falling into the terminal fall.  The game then places me right on the portal's platform!

Then I finally get the Screw Attack.  The only issue (a major one) is that I can only fly with the screw attack in certain rooms and at certain heights.  Thankfully Vault and Grand Abyss are two of those places!

I then get the second Ing Hive key in the Aerial Training Site (dark version of Watch Station) by screw attacking onto the force field that covers the key.  Normally you're supposed to go to Staging Area via the portal in Main Research, then screw attack up a shaft to get to the key.  Speed trick!  There's a small sliver in the barrier that allows you to get rid of the barrier and gate the key.

Blah, blah, blah, then I make it to the save station before Quadraxis!
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
(Separated post for big update)

Short and sweet: Quadraxis is beat.

The battle went very well.  The first part of the battle was excellent.  The second part was messed up a little thanks to unbelievable misses and a quad hitting me the moment I was about to fire a super missile...  :x

Other than that and a little booboo in Sanctuary Entrance, it was a very good segment.

The time is 2:19 with 33% percent items.

I'll upload this segment tonight (around 10:00 eastern).  If you haven't seen it yet, the Screw Attack segment is up now.  You can see it in my above post.  I hope you enjoy.

Next segment(#22) gets me the light suit and finally marks the start of the Sky Temple Key hunt.

-------------
EDIT (8/4/06)

Segment #22 is finished.  I finished in 2:25 with 34% items.  I collected the Agon Sky Temple Keys, then took the elevator to Sanctuary Fortress and saved there.  I'll get it uploaded soon.

EDIT: Here it is:
Segment 22 (Agon Sky Temple Keys, to Sanctuary Fortress)

My only real problem was getting the Doomed Entry BSJ to work.  Regrettable it took me 6 stupid tries to get it right.  Thankfully the Dark Splinters ignored me and let me get it.

The two highlights are getting the Sky Temple Key.

The Battlegrounds Key also had a lot of nerve-racking jumps in.  The Ing weren't too much trouble.  I just needed to keep them occupied.

The Dark Oasis Key is quite easy to get.  The PROBLEM is getting out aftward.  It may look easy, but it's not.  That's because you have to get just the right amount of distance and height and screw attack at just the right spot to land on the ledge and not get deflected backwards.  Fortunately I got it the first try.  For me that makes up for the booboo in Doomed Entry.

The next segment (#23) is the biggy.  I get the Hive Entrance Sky Temple Keys here.  The one in dark version of Spiderball Guardian's lair is easy enough.  The Hive Entrance key is not to say the least.  No one has found a non-SW way to get it, so here's where I do a little wall-crawling.  It's not easy, either. NONE of the parts of the wall-crawl are forgiving.  One misstep and it's miles below the level for me and an instant restart.  I've only done it one time before.  The wall-crawl actually frightens me every time I try it.  It WILL get done, though.  To be continued...
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
So I've been practicing the wallcrawl for getting the Sky Temple Key in Hive Entrance (Segment 23)...

I was able to do it successfully 2 times with a success rate of 1 in 4.  doninss' updated method for traversing Unseen Way has proven A LOT easier and A LOT less nerve-racking.  I'm very confident that I can do it in front of the camera.

Just a couple more practices with the rest of the next segment and I should hopefully have the next segment by the end of next week.  We'll see.

The following segment (Segment #24) shouldn't pose any problems, either.  I'll get the keys in Ing Reliquary and the one going from dark version of Temple Assembly Site.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Update: Segment #24 (Hive Entrance Wallcrawl) is complete and on tape.  Wow, that was an annoying segment!  :x  I'm happy about it, though.  There was so many little things I had to do.  I even got stuck a couple of times.  I got through it, though.

It isn't pretty at parts, but that's because of the sheer difficulty of the wallcrawl.  Even getting into the secret world to begin with it was annoying.  Near the end in Hive Entrance, I got stuck in a wall.  This had been a problem for the longest time.  I finally got out of it and continued on.  There were other iffy parts, but it worked and I'm happy with it for my first recorded run.

I ended up with a whopping 2:45 (34% items), making the segment 18 minutes long and the longest one.  I was hoping to get under 3 hours total, but I had forgotten that the wallcrawl was so slow.

The segment won't be online for a couple of weeks, since where I am doesn't have an internet connection for my laptop.  I'll continue with the run, though.  I can't wait to finally get to the end.

3 (or 4) more segments to go...  :D  Arrow

Segment 23 vid:
http://www.zeromission.co.uk/tjp7154/mp2nosj/segment23sm-.avi

Enjoy.  Description later.  Gotta go.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
I felt I should give -something- for an update.  I had to take another break from the project because of work.

Now I'm back on it and practicing the last segments.  There aren't any hitches anymore.  I finally figured out a consistent way of getting the wall jump in Sanctum Access to work consistently.

The only issue I have now for the final segment is that I want to be able to use screw attack on Emperor Ing.  The only problem, though, is that I can't get it to work.  That's because I can only -initiate- the screw attack.  Normally you damage enemies with just the screw attack initialization.  If I can't get it to work, I'll just bite my lip and beat him the ol' fashioned way.

Anyway, I have 3 more segments to go:

#24 - 2 Temple Grounds keys
#25 - Torvus Bog keys and last Temple Key
#26 - Emperor Ing and Dark Samus 4
I knew you could do it. OK, I thought you could do it. Well, I was hoping you could do it (you certainly deserved to do it). After loading my Sanctum save, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to do it. Then when you didn't update for quite awhile, I was convinced you were stuck at that point. I'm all smiles now though. It shouldn't be long before I can finally watch this.

So. Umm. You found a way to consistently SA in Sanctum sans SJ, huh? Cool. Probably a simple thing. Probably be obvious in the vid. Or it'll be mentioned in the comments. Well I should go read some other internet stuff I guess.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
The answer is actually simple.  From watching the video you wouldn't be able to figure it out, so I'll explain it.

You have to jump into the special wall as far as you can.  Jump from the farthest part of the ledge as you can.

Initiate the screw attack when Samus hits the wall.  It will NOT self-cancel.

After Samus falls a millisecond or so, press the jump button again and Samus will jump off the wall back toward the door you came in, but too low to catch the other wall.

This is fine, though, because now the screw attack will work in the room.  Just screw attack into the wall high enough to make it all the way up.

Caution:

If you fall down, you won't be able to get back up until you reload Sanctum Access by resetting the game or going through the Sky Temple portal.  The reason for this is that at the top of the room the game forces Samus to unmorph always facing the direction of the top door until the room is reloaded.  The screw attack won't work anymore after that point.

=====

EDIT: OK.  Segment #24 is completed and on tape.  Two more to go...

EDIT 2: OK. Segment #25 is completed and on tape.  One more to go...

As it turns out, I stink horribly on Emperor Ing without all that wonderful ammo.  Ughh...  This is going to take awhile...
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
It is done!  :o  8)

The No-SJ Run is finally completed.

I finally finished the last segment with a time of 3:12, 35% items gathered.  I hope to send out all the tapes at once early next week (Monday or Tuesday) to Nate from M2K2 for processing.  I'm not going to upload any more previews since that would detract from the main product.  It should be appear hopefully in 2 or 3 weeks I suppose.

Thanks goes out to all go to those who helped with all the "tricks" to getting through the game without the space jump.  I now have a new-found appreciation for what a little extra jump can do.  :x (It's all good, though.)

I'll write more about it when the actual product comes out.
