it was ridiculous. However, it was not hard. MP2 was certainly not a hard game, and whoever thinks that it really was needs to go back and play luigi's mansion instead.

I still havent beaten MP2 on hard  mode(@ emp ing); though I havent tried again recently.
(user is banned)
i havent either, but i havent tried hard mode MP2, because i decided normal mode was so unenjoyable that it wasnt worth my time.

Okay, it wasnt that bad.  I've done hard mode, but that was my run-through that i went around collecting all the items...

then again, the battle was easy due to some luck on my part.

However, I stick to my guns.  Legendary on Halo 2 is not a good difficulty to stick an average metroid player with.  thats too hard.  However, if you've ever played heroic, I'd like something closer to that for hard mode.

But putting metroid in something like normal mode is even a bit easy.

Do I see a giant green robot punching a giant red robot?.. Much as I squint, I can't really tell what it's actually supposed to be.

Metroid Prime 3: ROBUT FITES

The one one the right appears to be one of the new hunters.

In the attract vid (ie metroid-1 at gameinformer) you can see him at :20, :31, and :43.  The arm, the retractable sabre thingy, the thing suspended below the arm, and the pipes on the legs match up.  In metroid-2 at gameinformer the same looking guy is seen at :20, but this time you can see that he is a...
omfg, those screenies are awesome

Omfg, so there are actually Robut Fites in Prime 3? That's retarded.
HUNTER fights. One of the hunters happens to be a robot.

That Magenar boss looks cool.

The red thing is definitely not a robot.
Did people miss the NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER info?

The author of the Play Magazine article and interview has been saying more about the newest demo and answering questions.

Spoiler concerning the purple female hunter.
Quote:
She's one of the Hunters on your team, at least at the beginning. She's basically Mystique from the X-Men, and totally screws with Samus by shapeshifting into Dark Samus and such. They have a very catty relationship, it's a pretty fun character. Wish I could remember her name...

The Hunters are way cooler than they were in MP: Hunters!

Quote:
In the media conference, "why no multiplayer?" was the first question they were asked and the president of Retro was like "Really? Is that really you want from a Metroid game? That's a high priority for you guys?" and all the journalists were all "uh... Yeah, not really." It was pretty funny.

They did promise exciting Connect24 features but absolutely refused to elaborate further.

Spoiler concerning the fighing picture people have questions about (I was right about what he really is!).
Quote:
That mech suit belongs to one of the other Hunters. It's so über-badass in the game. I asked if Samus would ever be able to ride it, and the answer was alas, no.

Quote:
Yeah, I think Rundus was the third Hunter? He didn't appear as much in the demo as the other two.

1. The music was great in the first level. There were a lot of event scenes and it was particularly intense in those, but even in actual gameplay the music was much more active and upbeat overall than Echoes' ambient BGM. In the sky ruins area (which was the second level of the demo, but not the second area of the game) it was much more ambient, mostly just wind sounds. One of the Nintendo guys was raving about how amazing it sounded with the surround-sound headphones, but it was in mono in the demo for some reason.

2. I haven't played all the Wii FPS's, but I'm not aware of any that use this particular control scheme. Like most games, you move along your current axis with the analog stick (forward, back, and side-to-side), but you can also lock into an object with the Z-trigger (I think?) in which case you move only in relation to that object, so by pressing left and right you will circle around whatever you have locked in, and of course it will always be at the certain of your screen for targeting.
You always aim by pointing directly at your target, and there is NO lock-on targeting or aim assists. You aim freely within your bounding box and move the camera by pointing towards the edge of the screen. There are three levels of sensitivity to this, which vary the size of the invisible bounding box and the speed at which you turn. I think the Standard setting is typical FPS speed and sensitivity, but advanced is crazy fast, allowing you to turn 90 or 180 degrees in fractions of a second. I never set other games on fast sensitivity settings because it looks jerky and disorienting, but for some reason, Corruption works great on the Advanced setting. It has something to do with the way the movement smoothly accelerates and decelerates, I think. Or maybe just the level of fine movement you can make with your whole arm as opposed to just your thumb.

Wow, got a little wordy there. Short version: Best first-person controls I've ever experienced on the Wii, and dramatically superior to Prime 1 and 2 GameCube pad controls.

Quote:
I think I hit that in my crazy-long post above (I'm passionate about this one, okay?) but yes and no—you can use the Z button to lock onto objects for the purpose of moving in relation to them and keeping them centered on the screen. But there is no auto-targeting for locked-on objects (although maybe that's an option in the grandma-friendly Basic control mode?).

Here's a bonus question from the interview.

Play: I was wondering if you could elaborate a little bit on the previously mentioned WiiConnect24 features?

Retro: No.

[laughter]

[awkward silence]

But they said later that they would probably be able to talk more about it at E3.

Hunters has nothing to do with the Prime trilogy.

Quote:
[other person]Oh I see. So iit is somewhat similar to prime in that the focus is placed on the single target, and you move in relation to that target (so moving left or right will strafe around the target in a circle) BUT unlike Prime, you still have to aim you shots manually at the target.

Yes, exactly. And that is also how you lock on with stuff like the grappling hook.

A few other things I noticed since y'all have made me dig out my Metroid notes:

You can waggle the Wiimote to jump as a Morph Ball without planting a bomb. (Although you still need bombs to double-jump.)

• They implied that you can use the ship-control visor to order your ship (from the ground) to do strafing runs on foes.

Quote:
[other person]Hey Takuhi, any comments about the voice acting of the game?

They sounded pretty good! Pretty professional for the main parts, kind of generic for the soldiers on the field (as you'd expect). I asked if there were any known voice actors and they said they were all recorded locally in Texas, so apparently not.

Also, they refused to comment on whether or not a voice actor was hired for Samus. Which surely means yes, right?

Demo boss names spoiler.
Quote:
[other person]You mentioned you faced three bosses. Now, I could be wrong, but were those the Beserker Pirate, then Ridley, then the Defence Mechanoid? Did you face Mogenar?

Yeah, those three, in that order.

M2K2 should be verrrrry happy with the bolded part in the quotes.  Springball is back!  With that comes a whole new collection of bomb jumps! Spring-DBJ etc.  Furthermore, if instant morphs make a comeback, we might have instant morph spring jumps (like BSJs but in the other direction).  Awesome!

This is why I strongly believe this game will be the best game of the year! I mean you should be 100% right about the Springball technique. Surely there will be a lot tasks with it :)

But don't think for a second that they won't have altered the bomb counter MP2 style to make sure that IBJ's or other previous BJ'ing tricks aren't eliminated as much as possible.

But they really seem to be importing a ton of conventions from Super Metroid (which obviously is no bad thing). I'm pretty confident it'll be miles better than MP2 (which isn't a big task if we're all honest), but how it compares to the sublime original is what I'm more interested in...

Seriously? Unless they scrap the hunters and add some artistic taste to the game at the last second (which obviously isn't going to happen), this game isn't going to be anywhere close to competing with the original. =(

It just sounds to me like you want it to be more LIKE the original Prime -- or how exactly are you comparing it?
coral to complement blue
I don't necessarily want it to be just like Prime. Except for the art style; I definitely wish it were more like Prime in that area. Echoes might of had smoother textures and a higher poly count, but most people would agree that Prime had much better visuals, and a lot more style. Retro is using Echoes' duller style for Corruption.

Anyway, my post was directed to Mills' wondering how this will compare to the original. It seemed like he was implying that it was possible for Corruption to be better than Prime.
it's weird to meet a guy who actually cares that much about graphics.
Everybody cares about graphics, some people just prefer the older stuff.

Because it was better.
(user is banned)
because spring-ball is in, you can be damn well sure that they wont allow spring-ball BJs.
... or they'll be intentional.
red chamber dream
Spring Ball is definitely confirmed for Corruption?? Because that would be so awesome-- it's always been my favourite item in the series.

Very interesting article.  I'm interested in seeing how they implement the "make-back-tracking-make-sense" bit...

I think that's just a roundabout way of saying that key hunts are out.

Ahh hell naw.
If I hear ANYTHING about how crappy Prime 3's graphics are, I will go on a rampage.

Now, that interview has renewed meaning in my life. It looks like, even with rather different art styles and very "innovative" plot devices, Retro is going out of it's way to make Prime 3 not suck. I knew it was delayed for a reason.

My interpretation is the flick of the wiimote simply replaces the first bomb (and the height gained is the same) and that you'll still be able to dbj as normal.
everybody knows it's true
Spring ball jump fun!

dbj - 1st bomb, flick, 2nd bomb at peak, jump 1st bomb, jump 2nd bomb.

tbj - 1st bomb, flick, 2nd bomb at peak, 3rd bomb at floor, jump 1st bomb, 4th bomb at 2nd bomb spot, jump 2nd bomb, 5th bomb at peak of 2nd bombs jump, jump 3rd bomb, jump 4th bomb, jump 5th bomb.

I completely agree with you.  Aside from the Ing Hive, every environment in that game was depressing as hell.  Not to mention that EVERYTHING in dark Aether was even worse.  Prime 1 had interesting and bright environments that IMO were way more fun to explore.
