Just in case you wanted to know what it's about, I'm not going to tell you just yet.  Of course, I'll just be the guy that says, "Hey, it would be cool if we could do this here, and that over there, with this not happening until then," because I have only the slightest knowledge of programming, and that being Python.  So why I'm really here is to ask for help with the game.  I've never made a game before, so I'm looking for programming help, help with graphics, effects, music, and other stuff.  I'm hoping for help from the following people, if they're available:

Gamma_Metroid - graphics, music, sound effects, director/producer
Von Richter - undetermined (perhaps)
BioSpark - undetermined
Kejardon -
uNsane - programming
Nate - (already said he had no time, but just in case there's a change in plans)
P.JMan - debugging
Raccoon Sam - design
nn12000 - graphics
Zelikman - music
Ntsc - programming (hopefully)

If your name is on this list, reply here saying yes or no (an explanation would be helpful, but is not required).  I know that you need to know if you are able to do this, and need to know what the game's going to be about, but I want it to be a secret...for now....  For other people that want to help, say what you're good at, and I'll consider you.

EDIT: I just realized that this should have been in "The Arts".  Sorry!
EDIT2: In response to Von Richter's post, here are some details about the game: Fusion style graphics, but with less fluorescent colors.  It'll be a 2D side-scroller.  Fusion style physics, but with single wall jumping possible.  General mood, effects: dark, sort of a cave-like feel, with slow, creepy music, has intense boss battles/escape sequences, very non-linear, several routes, with multiple endings.
EDIT3:
NOTE: THE DEADLINE FOR SAYING YES OR NO TO HELPING WITH THE GAME IS AS OF THIS DAY (May 2nd, 2008) MAY 30th.

Moved to General Metroid. You need art to warrant an Art forum thread.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I might be able to help with graphics, and maybe programming if I can learn Python.

So I'll say yes, and that I'm honored to be on somebody's "Ask these people" list.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
I advise you do actually learn a lot more programming. Hell, I'm still learning programming, and the programming that I do do is ASM. I'm also not that interested in this, much rather stick to my own projects
Hehe well I've already expressed interest in making/programming a 3d game (http://forum.metroid2002.com/index.php/topic,6303.0.html). I mostly gave up on that project though because it is impossible to make a 3d game without a real team (modelers, texture artists, sound engineers, level designers, story board writers, etc).

I'm not particularly interested in coding 2d games any more though which I'm assuming is what you'd like to design.

Anyway I will send you a few samples of my work later tonight via PM.
Guess I'll help, dunno how helpful I'll be. I'm sure at can at least do something.
This looks like a 'do this game for me' -topic, but I know it isn't one. I'd be more than delighted to help you with design; I'm not really the one to ask about graphics, programming or music.
A new Metroid fan-game is always welcome, and I'd love to participate.
Mister ...
I could do graphics as well ... maybe.  Depends on what you're looking for.

I'm not so sure about that, but I'm just letting things run their course.

I could easily do the music - I listen to the tunes in all the Metroid games WAY too often already, and it helps having been a musician for many years... I'm currently working on a M2 remix for OCRemix, but in between sessions I can put together some music for this as well. Summer's coming and I'll have lots of free time. :)

I dunno, after re-reading it it's looking very much like that. I could very well be wrong of course, but it seems as though he's looking to act in a supervising role more than a creative one.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. It's really important in any collaborative project that everyone bring something tangible to the table; I'm not going to discourage you or tell you what to do, but I'd highly recommend being sure that you're really going to be more than just a tagalong supervisor. Otherwise you're going to find your creative control in this project quickly fading to nothing, should the others on the job find you're not doing a significant part of the work.

That's all the criticism I have. I think we'd all be pleased to see a good fangame come out of this, so by all means prove the skeptics wrong. :)
If you're going to ask for help, wouldn't it be a good idea to explain what you're planning, what kind of game it is, etc?
Or you could at least pm us.

Just a supervisor, apparently. If he doesn't have a plan, this WILL fall apart.

I still offer my services as musician, but there does seem to be an element missing here...

You don't need to learn Python, but it's nice (possibly essential, I wouldn't know) when everyone uses the same programming language.  I'll count this as a yes, for now.

I've tried, but the C++ website isn't helpful.  You could be helpful!  :D

Will you still make a 2D game, or are you doing exclusively 3D games?  I need all the help I can get there, so it would be great if you could help.

You're half right, but I'm only asking this because I have next to no experience in programming.  I'd like to help, and I expected myself to, but with the comments I'm getting....

That's great, I was a bit worried about music for a day or two.  Thanks!  Could you do sound effects, too?

I will be supervising, as I had the idea at first, but I'm going to help in the actual making, of the game, too, of course.

Yes, I know, I'm sorry, I should have explained a bit more.  I'll edit the first post in a bit.

I'll only PM stuff that's supposed to be a secret at that time.

I've already said that I'm not going to be just a supervisor, but you should always have one when you're working on a project like this.

PMs will go out to people that have said they are cool with the project, just be patient if they don't get out tonight.
By undetermined do you mean I don't know what I could help with yet?
I think I mean that we don't know what you'll be mainly doing.  So yeah, something like that.

"The" C++ website? There are a ton of sites that can help you learn C++. I'm assuming you're talking about cplusplus.com, though, which is a fantastic resource. If you don't find this page helpful, then I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah I'll still do a 2d. I think the only thing I cannot do 2d wise is the collision detection. I've always struggled with 2d collision detection specifically slanted edges and objects that need more than a "bounding box". I'll see if I can put together a small test engine for you with some of my craptastic hand drawn sprites. I'll try to comment as much as possible so others can learn from the code.

If you need to learn the basics of C++ I still recommend http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/. It won't teach you how to do windows or 3d graphics but it will teach you the essentials which every C++ program uses.

I need more info on compilers, like how and where to get them, some good ones, stuff like that.

We could get someone else to do it, or we could get help, figure it out, or something.  It's just good that you're able to do this.

If you're running doze and want an IDE–type app, I very highly recommend Dev-C++.

If you don't need the whole IDE and just want a compiler, go with Mingw, which is the doze port of GCC. If you're running Linux or OS X, just use the built–in GCC.
By "doze" do you mean Windows?
If you are running windows why don't you just get Visual Studio Express 2008. It's completely free.

Ntsc: some people don't like supporting Microsoft. Also, from my experience Dev-C++ is better. Microsoft loads down Visual Studio with tons of annoying menus and other superfluous shit. It reminds me very much of Windows, which is why I don't really care for it.

Yes.
