I did Ridley before Kraid w/ Ridley killed. I have: *checks game*
BEAMS: Long, Charge, Ice, unknow item (Plasma)
MISSLES:Normal:70, Super:4
BOMB:Normal
SUIT:Unknown (Gravity)
MISC.:Morph Ball, Power Grip, High-Jump
I am stuck when I get out of Ridley, because one exit has crumble blocks and the other Speed Booster blocks!
P.S: I will change the topic title to "[...]-DONE" when I'm done and I will post the statistics.
Thread title:
Getting out of norfair after Ridley. Go to the door right of the room right of high-jump boots. Jump up to the right and fall down the shaft on the left side until you hit a block. Sit, shoot a missile and roll in.

Getting out of Ridley. Up with the elevator. Go right, shoot the door. Go in. Walk to the screw blocks, shoot the floor twice, fall down. Shoot a missile on the highest block in the right wall, go in.

You'll only need 50 missiles, that's 2 zebetites + motherbrain. Get high jump after Ridley on the way out next time.

Just watch Gamecube04's run?

If you mean you can't get out right after Ridley, go to the room with speedblocks, and shoot the upper wall once.

Yeah, but now didn't you pick high jump before Ridley? That's not recommended.
I wasn't going for and teh uber time but just sub-1:00 (I have't... Embarassed )
Well, sometime you might wanna go for sub :30. Then it's good to know such things.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Well, I wouldn't suggest getting both Long and Charge beams, just one of the two, after some messing around, I came to think that the Charge Beam speeds things up more than the Long Beam, your best bet is to emulate GC04's run where possible.

...If he's gonna get long beam anyways, what's wrong with grabbing charge? It wastes like 2 seconds max, and probably makes up for it sometime later.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Long Beam, speed up the Hive room and that's it, Charge Beam can make going through rooms with a lot enemies that spawn from pipes or acid faster since you don't have to jump over all the enemies, it's really your choice. Also if you go all the way up for the Long Beam, you'll need to make up the time lost by getting it, and getting Charge beam doesn't do that.

Mostly it's just a personal prefence of mine to get only one of those two.

...the only room long beam really helps out with is the hive room, and you only need to kill three of them (2 to get bombs, 1 on the way back, assuming you don't go for the varia right after bombs). You have to kill the giant worm anyways, so you lose maybe 3 seconds to wait for it to explode to grab the charge and run away. It's possible that it might make up for even getting long beam.
Getting the Long Beam is really unneccesary.  Even if you grab it, the time you saved from the hive room doesn't make up for the time it takes to get it... besides, there's an even faster way to do that room anyway.

Getting Charge Beam takes about three seconds.  There are some spots in the game that can be done quicker with the Charge Beam, although I'm not sure if they make up for the three seconds it takes to grab it.  Still, if you're only going for sub hour, it shouldn't make a difference whether you grab it or not.
If it makes any matter, I picked up Long in my 29:11.
twenty eight fifty
well, you can get every power-up and still get sub-hour. the long beam skip will save you like twenty or so seconds, depending on your skills.

GC04 and I have had charge beam vs. no charge beam arguments, and I still say it's better to get it. I find it especially helpful for chozodia, as you don't need to try hovering in the air while killing space pirates. instead, you can just get them in one shot. everything else is pretty easily managable without charge beam.

basically, just learn a route and go with it without wasting time and your clear time will drop significantly.
I always picked up charge beam in my any% runs but I don't think it saves any time. I almost never get hit by a space pirate in midair, because I can just shoot upward at the pirate to freeze it, then just keep space jumping above it. I guess i'll just skip it in my next runs. Think this is a good idea?
twenty eight fifty
up to you, dude. if you use it, get it. if you don't, skip it. you're talking about a couple of seconds, not minutes, so if it saves any time for you, snag it.
Alright, keep talking with GC04, and if he says to not get it, I won't get it.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I used to never get the Charge Beam, but found how much it could help before Screw Attack, which I should probably be skipping also.
You should be skipping Screw Attack. In fact, skip almost all of norfair with the Ridley before Kraid shaft.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah, I figured that, I just have an unhealthly love of the Screw Attack.
Why? I like Screw, but I only get it in 100% because it would be time consuming to get it in any other mode.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I don't know really, I guess it's just a nostalgia thing, and probably the one hit killing everything. But it is very time consuming though, I should practice not getting that and skipping Acid Worm.
Practice skipping Acid Worm A LOT. I've been practicing about a month, and I still mess up about half of the time.
NEWS!
I have been ignoring my speed run for the past 2-4 days and still going to because I'm playing AC04 a lot (don't ask what AC04 is).
everybody knows it's true
