NEWS!
I have been ignoring my speed run for the past 2-4 days and still going to because I'm playing AC04 a lot (don't ask what AC04 is).
What's AC04?
Someone had to do it
you wait for it to explode? while its exploading, you can run right through the barriers on the right and left side of the screen, and then grab it on the way back

is what i do.

but it would speed up the cursed hive room...

Sub 1 hour is easy peasy. but below 40 is hard for me... Embarassed
I've skipped High jump on all of my runs. I should get it this next time.

I just learned how to do the acid worm skip well, but i'm NEVER doing a single-segment or a 100%.

I say that the long beam is good for the hive room, and may save time when combined with the charge for long hallways, such as that one heading left towards the 2 super missile exps with all the jumpy things and pipe enemies. Too bad the Wave beam isnt along the hall route. That would save a bit of time...

currently, sub 30 is IMPOSSIBLE for me. Shocked
Too many fangirls to count
really. What is AC04?
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Well, you might skip charge beam at first and come back to it, but I still feel that charging up a beam and shooting it straight at a hive followed by a missile or three is faster than rapid tapping the fire button. That's just my opinion, and I have no proof to back it up. -_-
One shall stand, one shall ball.
That really depends on whether or not those stupid bugs get in the way.
The fastest way that I've found to do the cocoon room:

http://www.metroid2002.com/gamecube04/gc04_ideal_cocoon_room.avi

I don't think you could be much faster than that, even with Charge Beam.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Hm, that's pretty cool, I should try that. I usually use the method in your 29:54 any %.
