I'd take II's lack of color over I's lack or detail any day.  At least the suits looked different beyond a pallete swap, and it's really cool that they actually took the time in II to make her look different from both sides, because the Arm Cannon is on the right.  That was a nice touch.

If you ever see some of the manual art for Metroid 1, you'll see that both Samus and your basic metroids had a re-design for II that you can't tell from the low-detail sprites in 1. Samus' gun looks significantly different for 1, and has tubes coming out of it linking to the rest of her suit. Her chest also underwent a major redesign. And metroids, in 1 they didn't have fangs but tentecles. II introduced the Samus and metroid designs that have remained more-or-less unchanged ever since (excluding the fusion suit, of course).

The non-mirrored sprites in II were a nice touch, and VERY rare for the time. I can't remember ever noticing another game going into that kind of detail for its sprites, especially in those days where cartridge space was a premium.

if there hadn't already been a topic on this, i would have made one. Even though the topic has sort of shifted, I was blown away by the suitless Samus area. I really thought Mother Brain was it, but losing most abilities and items was a nice twist. Only thing I can complain about is Meta Ridley STINKS!

I'm not gonna go much into Prime being an X I'll say one thing though. If Prime was an X it would attack Samus, multiply in her system and kill her. In Prime she isn't part Metroid so X would eat her alive!

I loved the sneaking around! It did remind me a little of the SA-X but MUCH scarier! Music was creepier and this time the enemy didn't stop when they reached a tiny hole! NO they CRAWLED THROUGH IT!!!! That freaked me out! AHHHH They're chasing me!!!!

The worst bit was near the bit where you're moving left and can either go through a vent, or through the door. There's a dark shadowed area to the top.

I got seen. Ran in there and jumped into the shadowy area, Pirate ran by. I thought I was safe....

hey whassat coming through the vent? ITS THE PIRATE!!!! That was another freaky bit.

Overall I LOVED the Splinter Cell bit. Best part was when I got the Fully Powered Suit I actually shouted out!

HA!!! LETS SEE WHO CHASES WHO NOW!!!!!! REVENGE!!! EAT PLASMA!!!!!! As I gave them a severe case of frostbite

Yeah, it was great, and so was getting revenge on those evil pirates. It's obvious that they put a lot of thought into this sequence. My favorite part is right before the last save point, being followed up that shaft and under those walls, then getting to the end and shooting the floor out, laughing as they fell to their doom.

The only thing I would have liked is shortcuts to get right back to the frigate, as the passageways are kind of winding and long to go back through. Maybe screw attack blocks to transport you through the ship's hull?
