Yeah. I wish I really was paying more attention, but I plowed it with the charge shot and as I was falling (still in air) I shot at a wasp and a few pegged the drone and got it to flash red. Since it doesn't have a damage bar I couldn't tell if it actually did anything (it still took a regular number of charges after to kill it) but it might be worth looking into.
inb4 new strat to eliminate zoid luck
I dunno if it was something that would be doable in realtime. I think it might be a fluke for realtime but replicatable in TAS perhaps.
after you shoot i. drone, it points its arm up to the ceiling and shoots fire. this also lights up the room briefly. my guess is that you shot it, fell, and as you went to shoot the wasp the room lit up, making it looked like you damaged it.

Trust me, I have been playing this game since it came out in November of 2002. It wasn't the room lighting up.
well i guess it could be worth looking in to. though, zoid (the creator of that boss) has literally said that you can't damage it until the red spot appears. it's not like the red spot is hiding inside of it or something.

can you describe in detail how it happened, what round, etc.?
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
I don't know for sure. But it's always seemed to me that the hitbox and the weak point are two entirely different things, the hitbox just appears on the frame that the weak point starts to pop up. You can see this by shooting really early, the shot just hits an invisible block where the weak point is going to be. With that in mind, it's weird to think that it would be possible to damage zoid while the hitbox isn't there, especially if you weren't shooting at where it would be when it is there.
It'd be neat to be proven wrong somehow, though.

Well like I said, I was fighting it and did the classic jump in front of the weak spot trick. Went through one round and fired a charge shot at it, went through another doing the same, then I hopped on to it on the left side (with your back against the door to leave). I was standing ontop of it, charge shotted a War Wasp, then charged up another shot and just before it was full, let it fly into the target as it popped up and I 'slipped' off the lip.

Just before I had hit it, a wasp had come down. So, as I shot my charge shot, I locked on and fired one shot roughly at the time the drone was struck by the charge, and I fired one more. Those two connected with the wasp, and I fired two (with no pause in between) which connected with the drone's top & it flashed red.
It's possible to "damage" I. Drone again soon after it goes back down, yeah, but that shot doesn't actually do anything. No cutting out a round on I. Drone unfortunately.

Okay so I put a lot of thought into the current route and any changes for TAS that could actually save time and early plasma is about completely useless but the only real route change that could really save potential time is the secret world in the series of the three artifacts you collect and it so happens to be the artifact on the bridge in the pirate labs, you collect the artifact and if your in the cutscene range you can secret world out and in TAS this could cut out the backtracking to head to chapel of the elders it's questionable wether the room ratios would actually save time but a perfect TAS wallcrawl could actually skip thardus dash and lead to chapel of the elders faster this would be the only real route change time saver and this might not be legitimate so we might be stuck with the current route after all, let me know what you think about this concept thanks everyone!!!

I'm not going to bother reading that run-on sentence; almost as unreadable as https://m2k2.taigaforum.com/post/the_i_need_help_topic302_233.html#the_i_need_help_topic302_233

EDIT: Also, again, if you're serious about making a TAS, you should hold off on that because of dolphin loading issues (I told you twice already I think). If you don't know what I mean by that, then go to tasvideos.org and you'll see why a metroid prime TAS right now would be dumb and inaccurate
Life is a speedrun!!!
Wow now you too are just being jerks. Anyways, using a secret world in phendrana drifts, probably wouldn't work. Collecting an Artifact out of bounds, would most likely take you back in bounds, then you would be back in the map. This is the bridge with the space pirates lab fight, where you missle over a energy fence skipping plasma. Some guy on YouTube found a secret world, standing in front of the cutscene spot, where the tower drops. It would probably be better just to backtrack, and use Mr. Speedruns new Trick for thardus dash, instead because this secret world theory, in an essence would probably just fail....

That's better and actually readable; people will likely take you more seriously now.

"more seriously" not "seriously"

If you're actually serious about making a TAS, then go read this topic:

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=314&start=480

But if you're not serious about making a GOOD, OPTIMIZED TAS, then I'd recommend you stop posting about it

EDIT: Itspersonnal can probably give you more details about why a mp1 TAS would be dumb, since he actually has experience with TASing unlike me

I think if you're interested in making a good, optimized TAS of Metroid Prime then you should stop being interested in it. Dolphin isn't ready for it.

don't take it too personally, Metroid speedrunning turned us all into jerks... towards everyone.

I get what you are trying to say, about the load times and such, but that's no need not to make a complete run, even if the load times aren't correct to a standard gamecube.

Um, it's dumb. Ideal Strategies with accurate loading times vs. ideal strategies with instant loadingtimes will be completely different and the time will be very inaccurate too <_<

If you don't know why load times affect this game so much, you should learn more about the game before even considering TASing it.

Can we not turn this topic into the TASvideos one? please.
Life is a speedrun!!!
Well I see your stance Kirbymastah, but unfortunately, I am unable to comply with your reasoning, because... TASs runs will come in good time, someone needs to hype the interest for others, and sort of give people outside the community, a taste of TASing prime and we will see future progression

Just please stop it. Starting a full-game TAS is a complete waste of time until dolphin gets accurate loading times. You evidently don't understand why it's so significant if you keep pushing the issue (IIRC you didn't even know the main power bomb / x-ray visor were required to beat the game).

Anyways, not turning this into tasvideos topic anymore. You should just read the thread I pulled up for you if you want to keep pressing it.

EDIT: Itspersonnal,I didn't know about the metroid prime fight TAS demo :O
Could it theoretically be possible to get Plasma without Ice?
