What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I was looking through the images at nintendo.com's Metroid Prime section, and came across a conceptual drawing not shown in any of the Metroid Prime galleries that looks something like a Kihunter from Super Metroid.

Just thought worth mentioning, since it's a fairly nifty design, if you ask me.  It seems more "Space Piratey."  (with the jet pack and all) I suppose it's because, at least according to the Super Metroid manual, Kihunters were another type of Space Pirate.

EDIT:  Oh, and there's another conceptual drawing that looks like a Nova from Norfair, leaning more towards the original Metroid design (being covered by fur).

Makes me wonder why these two enemies weren't included.  I can see why Nova's probably weren't (so not to have too many enemies from Zebes on TIV), but I can't think of why Kihunters didn't make it.  If you ask me, Kihunters could easily replace the flying pirates--replacing them would add a bit more diversity.
Thread title:
woh, some of those concept arts so superior to the final models used in the game.  I think the "kihunter" is what eventually became a "flying pirate"

but some of the space pirate models look so bad ass, and these things:
its amazing how much wings can do to make the chozo ghosts look damned awesome.  Shame that image has the huge nintendo.com on it.

Retro's artists have some amazing talent, i suggest you look through all of the pictures in that prime artwork section.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Well really, flying pirates and kihunters are the same thing. Not the same in that they're the SAME, but they're interchangable in the same way that Iron Knuckles and Darknuts are in the Zelda universe. If that makes sense.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Bah.  Kihunters are cooler.

Ready and willing.

Uhm..that artwork of the Kihunter is in the MP gallerie.
But it's w/o those little effects.
Saying that Flying Pirates and Kihunters are interchangeable is like saying that Stalfos Knights and Armos Knights are interchangeable because they both have swords.  Kihunters are completely differant than normal Space Pirates.  They're much more like bugs, have natural wings, and spit acid.  Flying Pirates are just Space Pirates with jet packs.
*spasms* *twitch... twitch....* such... *twitch...* cool *.twitch twitch....* artwork.... *twitch*

Yeah, I know.  I can't get them both to work at the same time....

Nope, I think you're thinking of the different picture of the Piratey thing with the Metroid like thing attached to its back.
Kihunters are so damn much like Flying Space Pirates, it really doesn't matter. And, the pirates fit better with the story.
Me + boredom + Photoshop = THIS.  My attempt to remove the Nintendo logo using the clone stamp tool.

How are Kihunters like Flying Pirates? The only thing they have in common is that they both fly.  Observe now, if you will, the diferences: Flying Pirates use jetpacks.  Kihunters have wings.  Flying Pirates have blasters.  Kihunters spit acid.  Flying Pirates are just like Space Pirates in every other way.  Kihunters are a completely different species.
...just wondering, but where are kihunters in the games?

or are they just those ugly bug things in 3?

because... that concept art definately has some sort of gigantic flaming jetpack on the back of it, and looks FAR more space-pirateish than "huge mantisy bug with acid eye sockets with wings"
Kihunters were indeed those ugly bug things in 3 (and 4), and werne't found at all in Prime.
Ummm... yeah... as far as I'm aware, Kihunters didn't fancy bio-mechanical enhancements, and they certainly couldn't emit electricity from their arms...

That's nowhere near a Kihunter. It doesn't have the same shape, no part of it, it lacks wings, it uses mechanical parts, it fires lightning-bolt like stuff... That looks more like what the space pirates would do to a mosquito if they had the chance. Come on, it even has that blood sucking device on its head...
Viking
Precursor
If you ask me, it looks like a very early version of a flying Space Pirates. It kinda looks like a pirate. Just skinnier.
It has a jetpack on, it's just an early model flying pirate. Kihunters never use anything mechanical. That artwork is seriously great, though...
Hey, Xoc, that was a great job. I cant even tell the difference.
metalridley is right
that one u put a link to is a space pirate on a jet pack
ki-hunters were never involved in MP, they came from a dif galaxy

Your sig is making my eyes bleed. Is it supposed to do that?
Yes, the green burns. Doesn't make my eyes bleed...but it does burn.
What is Samus supposed to be looking at? Is she asleep with her head on a computer screen?

Now that it's posted, you can just copy and paste into Paint.[/img]
