Hey all,
For any of you that frequent or visit the Metroid Database you may have already heard about this.  For those of you that don't, this thread's for you.

I recently completed and released my sprite hack, Metroid Presented by the Metroid Database, or "MDbtroid."  You can download the hack here: http://www.metroid-database.com/fanapps.php

I've just created this thread to get the word out.  I want as many people as I can get to experience my hack.  Please give it a try, and I definitely recommend playing it with the LUA Script made by Neill Corlett: http://www.neillcorlett.com/metroidlua/  This pretty much turns it into a "brand new" game, or at least makes Metroid a more worthwhile experience. (You need to use FCEUX 2.1.2 or higher)

Thanks for your time.  And now, screenshots! :D

And you can see some game footage with my commentary here:
Thread title:
Great looking hack, i'm going to play this soon
I like turtles.
So basically Zero Mission with NES graphics?  Don't get me wrong, though, this looks incredible.
More like NES Metroid with Zero Mission perks.

I just setup the FCEUX, Lua Script, and patched the ROM, and WOW this looks like it's gonna be alot of fun!

I've never used this emulator before or utilized a lua script.  Pretty cool.

IE - does this still utilize the password system?

All passwords should work as normal.
Been playing this one for a little while now.  I'm going for 100% and not necessarily caring about time.  I went to Ridley first and...
he's a total bitch this time around.  He's on a little platform that kinda high and every time he knocks you off you have to do one of those hi-jumps that sometimes makes it, sometimes doesn't.  He seemed like he had alot more health this time, but it could be just my frustration making it seem like a longer fight.  I normally use screw attack on ridley, but I kept dying before he did - and I started the fight with 5 frikkin' e-tanks!  The third time I fought him I just used bombs and he died while I still had 2.5 tanks to spare.

Will kill Kraid and finish this tomorrow.  Too wasted to continue.
Yoshi is back
Very nice job, I'm guessing that took a bit of ASM? To include the Map and the Equip screen
You must have done a lot to make that. And Zero Suit Samus, Thats simply put Amazing.
MDb Admin
Please read fully -- I did NOT create the Map/Equip screen.  That was a Lua script created by Neill Corlett.  All I am saying is to get the "Full MDbtroid experience" that I recommend you use the Lua script while you play.

Just finished this.  1:38:48 100%

What follows is not a formal review, just my thoughts and some spoilers.

The addition of the map was nice, but it was not really needed since there were no map changes.

The timer was great, especially for those of us who are concerned with completion time.

It was also nice to have an item counter.  I can't be sure, but I think that missile expansions were the only thing that were counted, so maybe 'item' counter isn't the best description.

The game allowed you to carry 7 out of the 8 energy tanks that I found.  If memory serves me, the original rom only allowed you to carry 6.

The new boss sprites were cool, esp mother brain.  The ridley fight was super annoying as he knocked you off his little platform alot.  This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that the platform is just the right height to where your highest jumps only make it some of the time, like those vertical pits in norfair that make you scream if you fall into one. Getting a little bit of a running start before making the jump (and spinning as well) seemed to increase your chances of gaining the needed height, but then Ridley knocked you right back off much of the time.  Add in the fact that Ridley had alot more health and it amounts to a welcome increase in difficulty - an actual boss fight!  Kraid's fight wasn't as remarkable since I used the same old bomb-the-shit-out-of-him tactic.  I did fight Kraid after Ridley, which means I had 7 energy tanks by then, so I guess I kinda cheated.

The escape shaft was kinda brutal as there were fewer of those tiny platforms and they were spread farther apart.  I confess to using some save states to avoid pulling out hair.

I actually re-acquired ice beam before I realized that I had the ability to re-activate it using the submenu.  I gotta be sure to remember that on my next playthrough as it will save some major time.

I thought it was a little ballsy to credit MDb in the section of the credits that specifically mentions copyrights.  Not that credit isn't due for all the awesomeness that was achieved here, but COPYRIGHTS?  lol.  Unless of course this actually is somehow sanctioned by ninty, and if that's true then I have seen everything.

Overall I really enjoyed this alot.  I'm sure there are several other cool things that made me smile but I just can't remember them right now. The one thing that would have made it more awesome is if there had been a new map.  I hope that someone makes a new map for this.  Then we would have a true remake of Metroid here.

@ Opium, actually, in the credits, I left the (c) 1986 Nintendo in there.  What I replaced with our URL/logo/my name was the "The End."

I did replace the title screen copyright info, which is pretty common among other Metroid hacks, so I didn't think it would be a big deal.

I decided not to change (most of) the level design because I wanted the game to be METROID, not another version of Metroid.  Catch my drift?  :)  But if someone wants to use Editroid and change the level design around, I'm all for it.

Thanks again for playing it.
I guess I could have been more clear by saying that it was the use of the word 'and' following the copyright info.

A new map is just my own personal desire, the fact that the map isn't changed doesn't lessen the awesomeness overall.

Just wanted to re-assert that I really really enjoyed this.  Thanks for making it!
Time bomb set get out fast!
This looks incredible.  It also looks complete, so I'm moving this thread to Now Playing.  Can't wait to try it out.

hey, thanks Zeke.  I want to get as many people as possible to play my hack, so I'd love to hear about more playthroughs and comments on it.
