Nein i mean i don't have to use the X-ray visor to hit the weak spot, it simply makes it easier. I was proving that their was no hacking required as i just opted to not use the X-ray visor to see what i would get. It worked.^_^

Actually using the x-ray visor makes it do more damage when you shoot one of their weak points; e.g. the metroid hatcher, if you use the x-ray visor it will die in a single shot on any difficulty, without the x-ray visor it takes several more.
if only they had aim free for mp1, lock on to op while fighting trooper and kill prime first form and shooting his slow moving missile

Eh, I don't play (or even like) FPSs, either. Prime was the first first–person shooting game I had played for any significant amount of time in years, yet I still got used to (and really like) Corruption's free–aim controls. Give them a shot; I promise they're way easier to learn than dual–analog controls in FPSs like Halo, which suck arse.

Halo's controls are harder to learn, but they're just as good as MP3's controls once you get used to them.

No way can you possibly say this. The fact alone that they're harder to learn makes them not as good, but honestly, no way is dual–analog better than a pointer.

Please stay on–topic. No one's talking about GameCube emulation.

To add to that some people want controls that are easy to learn or they won't play it. I couldn't, and never will get used to haloes controls. Corruption i got used to in like what 2 minutes? Ja as he said pointer is better.;)
i weren't talking about game cube emu... i was talking about for wii letting us play mp3 with gc controller........ cause wii mote you need to change your batteries every once few hour, and gc controller doesn't need power to use it.

I always have it turned off. I think it keeps it true to the prime series, and locking on without your crosshair moving disorients me >_>

there's a lot of things that wouldn't work with the old controls in mp3.

it requires the wii controller for a reason.

Though I am, for the most part, a metroid purist, I refuse to be so just for purity's sake. The lock-on/free aim system to me is a great leap forward in Prime's shooter/adventurer/explorer fusion, and I'd never use the lock-on system of old just because I'd gotten used to it in the other games. From the first e3 demos I was crying out for this kind of lock-on system to be implemented, and I'm so glad it was- It's a shame it had to be used only in the last part of the trilogy, because it could have probably have worked wonders in the previous two titles.
I still think the lock on free aim appeals mostly to people who play FPS's.  I never do, so I don't get a kick out of doing headshots or stuff like that.  I like to be able to lock on and shoot, and I'm glad Retro left that option in there for people like me who have only played Metroid Prime games as far as first person shooter type games go.

I know there were always people complaining about the controls in MP 1 and 2, wondering why there wasn't dual analog controls and what-not.  I'd say the lock on free aim is mostly to appease them.
To be honest, I am not a great fan of first person shooters, but I still think that the new system makes things feel a little less clunky. I had no problem with the old system- I debated with my FPS-crazed friends that MP1 and 2's controls systems were perfect for the games, and they still are, but I feel the ability to free aim while locked deepens the experience and freedom/immersion factor of the game. I'm very glad, however, that they didn't go for the full-on FPS approach- as fun as hunters was, we all know it didn't really belong in the prime series...
I found something out last night while fighting (Dark) Rundas.  I play with lock-on free-aim off, but while fighting the Rundas is automatically forces you to use lock-on free-aim.  I even went into the control options, and lock-on free-aim was set to off - but it makes you use it for this boss fight.  I'm guessing maybe lock-on free-aim is mandatory for boss fights, since that's generally when you need to use it most.  Interesting..  8-)

When he has about half of his health when he takes off he starts to shoot tiny balls of ice im guessing that realease energy for you when you destroy them. You would also need it to destroy the balls of ice he summons in the begining of that battle.

Was this known, that the game forces lock-on free-aim to be on for bosses, even you have it off ?

Never heard that before, but it's defintely interesting. Not sure I like what they're doing, but you can't blame Retro for wanting people to use the superior control scheme when it really matters.

I agree, during battles when you have to be able to free aim, I want it to be forced.  Other wise you have no chance of winning.  I'm quite happy they did this!

The game should also default to the Advanced control scheme imo. All of the others are fairly annoying and hard to use if you've ever played any FPS game.

that's what i was trying to say in my other posts. lock-on free-aim off lets you fight regular enemies like in the old games and the bosses with the free-aim since the lock never targets they weak spots. i played the game that way since my second playthough back in september.

also, advanced controls almost made my head fall apart. good thing the other settings exist or i wouldn't have been able to play mp3 at all (i kept the default ones since the beginner ones were really slow)

sounds like you and I are the same.  I use the middle setting on sensetivity, it is much smoother and controlled (like the other Primes).  The advanced sensetivity also made me feel like i was having a seizure!  Wink

It seemed that way to me at first, but I stuck with it due to what I'd heard from others–– that it takes much longer to get used to, but it's well worth the effort. They were right.

I'm curious are you able to aim better because of it?
