I also sincerely doubt we'll see Nintendo take Metroid away from Retro.

They're doing a bang-up job for one, and for another... they are Nintendo.  They were bought in 2001.

I also would like to see them try some other projects, and I don't mind much who works on the 2D games, as long as they're good, but Retro should still remain Team Metroid when it comes to the 3D games.  Heck, it might even make sense to establish a 2D studio under them for the sake of continuity with the Metroid games (might have to steal a few IS guys though).

They can then rename themselves Retroid.... err, or uhm... Metro...

Hmm...  OK, maybe they should keep their name.

Indeed. Although I don't think that applies to the whole thing here; I think enough of it stems from the game itself too. I'm a big happy camper when it comes to these things, but even I felt MP2 was missing a certain something MP1 had. (Not that I personally thought it was fatal, but...)

MP1 was missing a certain something MP2 has.

\o\ Fly, I!  Fly!

And...Skunk?  Stop being so very wrong...
In my facts, opinions, or bad jokes?

I also agree, unless you were being sarcastic, that MP2 did have a certain nice level of polish that was missing from MP1.  Of course that might be an issue with memory.  I'm replaying MP1 now - I'll prolly be able to better comment on the differences later.

I didn't much care for the fetch quest at the end, but I also didn't abhor it.  I just wish there was a more natural in game method of identifying the rooms worth searching.  Of course, I also had a several month pause in playing, which made it harder to figure out where I'd seen stuff I needed to do.

The modification to how the gun-arm went to missile mode was enough for me though.  I hate the splayed look.

In the end I think it's easiest not to bother comparing.  I enjoy them both greatly.

I agree with you but MP2 didn't have "that thing" that Metroid Prime had its missing the whole exploring new areas thing thats vital to the Metroid series.
All it mostly was was killing the Ing and saving the energy there was very little about phazon or the space pirates that bothered me.
The control scheme wont work. I mean the one that was just posted. How would u change beams??? Going to the start menu would just mess with the game... sorta i guess.
Anywhere, everywhere
There is no switching beams, they're stackable.
They will keep bringing out 3d metroid games aslong as there is a community like M2K2. But it would still be cool if they brought out another 2d game.

Ready and willing.
Like, did you actually read the whole topic, instead of just responding to the first post? That part of the conversation has been said several times by now.
In my mind, last Prime simply means "Metroid Prime" aka Dark Samus won't live beyond this game, which means it's the end of Metroid Prime, thus Samus will have to face a different enemy.

Hopefully they don't make another trilogy. I think that's where Echoze sort of fell on its face: it tried to be what Prime I was and failed. I'd like to see more 3D that somehow fit into the series but don't necessarily relate so directly to each other.
all depends on whether or not it's rushed.

Hey at least if there is or is not a another 3d metroid game i get to finally get to kill Metroid prime(Dark samus).

My opinion i hope they make more 2d and 3D..

Long live metroid!
Well now with the wii`s point and shoot style gamplay with the wii remotes I doubt it will be the last 3d metroid game. I pray though that they will make an old school 2D metroid game for the ds or gba soon.
Prime, if I'm correct, is merely the name of the creature. That doesn't mean Metroid's gone for good or even for the 3D ones. Nintendo specifically said last Metroid Prime which is obvious since Dark Samus will perish beyond this title.

Yes, that's obviously correct.
I got an idea that might satisfy both sides. Make a camera option for first person or third person.

Instead of explaining why that wouldn't work, I'm going to put forward an example:

Space Jump. In a 2d metroid game (or, speculatively, any third-person one), when you run and then jump, Samus spins. In first person you can't do that. (Edit: well, you could, but it would be painful on the eyes :| ) Soooo... basically... you've got something that can't really be done in third person.

The difference between FPS versus "TPS" is more than just a visual thing; it affects gameplay directly. That's why--to give another example--the morph ball wasn't done in a first-person view. :P Bomb jumps would be hell.

Anyways, yeah, a third-person 3d metroid game would rule SO FREAKING MUCH and is what I've always wanted on the N64. :'(

The Screw Attack in Echoze is another good example of necessary third-person in an FPS, and Retro did it quite well, if you ask me. I'd like to see a completely new item/technique in Corruption (or the next 3D Metroid) that switches to a third-person view.

Edit: I'm editing all my really big useless posts into this so you don't waste your time reading them. If I should just leave them how they are then tell me and I'll stop editing them, but I think it would be better to not waste room on the page and stop if someone tells me to, than leaving them here to be annoying.

Sounds awesome! Hmm.....what the call him?...uh.. Grundor.!
All I want for a new Metroid game is more hats.

And like, they would stay on when you went into morph ball.
Look, witty text!
Oh great, now I've got the image in my head of a Goldeneye-style cheats menu, with an option to give all the Space Pirates funny hats.
Exactly.
I just imagined the morph ball being a Pokéball and Samus popping in and out of the Pokéball instead of morphing into the morph ball because it's a Pokéball.

...I'm getting one of those ear cleaner things, and some bleach.
