i remember when i was a kid and i filled out a survey that came with some game that my parents bought me. part of it asked me to rank some things based on importance. i ranked "packaging" last.
Other M sold roughly 45k in Japan last week for #3 on the charts. That's okay I guess. Enough to warrant another Team Ninja Metroid game? Eh...I dunno.

all the primes opened below that in japan, so i'm betting total sales are far more important.
what i think will happen is that this approach won't last long. it was supposed to increase sales in japan because the game was made in japan and had more stuff in common with japanese games but if it still sells as bad as the primes there and now the sales drop here and in europe because of the changes like story and more voice. i think nintendo will end up backpedaling on that one and return to a more simple style like the older games or maybe even make another prime game (practically everyone in interviews asked about prime series stuff to Sakamoto. looks like it is more popular than the main series over here)
it is not the first time Nintendo would end up backpedaling on a major change. The Wind Waker wasn't well received initially and they changed the style back to a look more similar to OoT/MM, i'd bet we'll see games styled after Other M on 3DS and more prime on consoles (or just first person Metroid. doesn't have to be prime to use the same gameplay as those games)
That is data from two different sales trackers in Japan, Media Create and Famitsu, respectively. They both estimate sales from non-partner retailers so that's why the numbers are slightly different. The format is <first week> / <launch to date>.
Famitsu has been around for a long time but orignally used a point scale instead of listing actual sales data, which is why the early games are missing. Nintendo gave that number for the original Metroid recently IIRC. MC hasn't been around long enough to record the early sales, IIRC. There is/was hope that a Japanese sales blog (Sinobi's) might provide more sales data on the original trilogy because of Other M's recent release. (For those who might care.)
In responce to the vid: Nah mate, to play the game you gotta put the disc in the wii, then it should run just fine. Try again next time but remember what I said...... good man (ahh it's all a learning experience for some)
What did you want to hear? the sound of the paper ripping? or a song perhaps? I don't think audio was pertinent for what was trying to be communicated.
They sold over a million copies of the original Metroid?! And now they're selling in the tens of thousands... it's like the comics industry, but in just 25 years instead of eighty.
Hahaha shit you're so upset about how weak this game is. It's cool, me too. I'm just trying to play it off like I'm alright. On hard mode, I died on the elevator battle against the big horned, stretchy arms guy about twenty times yesterday, and I looked at my box wondering whether cutting it up isn't ultimately the best approach. Don't get me wrong, I dig a hard game when it's fun. 'Course the haters are gonna say "time will tell" but I think we can agree there's very little more story to tell.
