I'd probably give ROS somewhere around 7 or 8:

It's not exactly the best game, but can still be fun in the right situations. There's also the whole evolution of the Metroids that was included, which adds to their coolness factor. (I do like the higher end Metroids, but still prefer the normal/larvas for some reason :?)

That, and the fact that without this story, there would be no SUPER (AHH!!!) At least, the Super we all know anyway...
red chamber dream
I'll just bump this topic up a month because no one hardly looks at this forum anyway. RoS is definitely a 9. Being the second Metroid game I played, the first being the original Metroid, it wowed me when I saw it..it had so much cool stuff that wasn't in the first game. I'm not comparing the game to games like Prime, because Prime is obviously better IMO, but I'm comparing it to games of it's time and the first Metroid. It is definitely a 9. Plus, it was thanks to this game that we got the awesome ranks we have now on these boards.
lvl 28 Magic Leper
I give this game a 7.5 out of ten.
It had a great improvement in graphics and gameplay from the first game. This game almost gave me a nervous breakdown when I was fighting my first Zeta and then realized this game had no diagonal aiming. (Note: This was the last game of the series I played so I was used to super and all of the other newer games.) Also there wasn't any bosses to fight beside the Queen, although it was fun to fight Arachnus in black and white I wouldn't consider him a boss.
I give this game a 9...

It was the first metroid game that i fell in love with and it will always be my favorite. Its a classic that will stay with my forever plus its super scary.
Personally, I like ROS more than the original, but Super Metroid is my favorite. Come to think of it, I don't think there's any game I like more than Super Metroid in the whole span of video games. I'd give it a 7.
7, together with Fusion my least favourite Metroid games, still reasonably good though.
8 (with 5 being an average game)

it has moments of unbeatable immersion which are ruined by the sheer amount of boss battles.
got as far as
emporer ing
now and i just cant be arsed finishing it... metroid prime, on the other hand, grabbed me by the balls from the opening scene to end credits. i just couldn't put that game down :D

hopefully its like mp1 replayability-wise... that game got better with each consecutive run
Um, this if for the Gameboy Metroid just so you know.

*Metroid II: Return of Samus*

(Not Metroid Prime 2: Echoes)  Wink

I'd rate this game a 9/10. It was a masterful progression of the Metroid series.
