you're probably right, i think i'm just remembering how improved the mechanic was in brotherhood
red chamber dream
acii's combat was kind of ass

i mean all ac combat is kind of ass but i remember ii's being particularly lame
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah in Brohood the realized you probably shouldn't just get owned if the enemy decided to block forever and let you kick them in the dick and ruin their shit.
I like turtles.
I still remember Brotherhood as having much improved combat following II. Unfortunately it also introduced "full synchronization" objectives to the franchise. And that's absolutely unforgivable.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Yeah but at least you can just not do that shit because lol fuck that.
red chamber dream
yeah, i actually did 100% brotherhood but i never bothered again

i find it easy now to not care about that sort of thing
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I can think of a ton of non-Zelda games with lock on targeting.

Star Fox Adventures
Beyond Good and Evil
Metroid Prime trilogy
Devil May Cry series
Bayonetta 1 & 2
Red Steel 2
Diablo III on consoles

Those are just off the top of my head.

Usually "not doing it" is exactly my strategy if I come across stupid optional goals in a game. Even so, I hate that devs give optional content a free pass to be unfun or badly designed. It may not be part of the "core" game but it should still be held to standards and get playtested and iterated.

apparently mass effect andromeda is looking super rough

if it's as bad as people are saying, man how that series has fallen
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Bioware's not very good animators outdid themselves apparently, yeah.

Or maybe Vince McMahon did the mocap or someth

The combat seems to be pretty solid apparently from what I've heard. But lol
red chamber dream
lol combat in mass effect games is the one thing i don't give a shit about. probably because it's always been terrible ...

that gif is great though

I know, lets go take a look at the gameplay lead dev's twitter and see if he's addressing any of it-

Not sure what you think he's gonna do about the animation one way or the other.

Also "End white people" is literally the only correct opinion so he's probably cool tbh.
yeah i mean nothing he said is wrong. white people suck

It's not just the animations either, have you seen/heard some of the writing too? It's just piss poor garbage

Like fuck, this was made by real people who actually do this professionally, lol

There were more facial expressions and emotion in the Mass Effect game that came out in god damn 2007 than there is now. How do you step that far back?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Basically, Bioware has never put a great deal of time and money into animation. There's always been janky ass shit from NPCs walking around and such. What they had going for them in previous Mass Effects, though, was a veteran team and Unreal being a super friendly engine so it was easier to make OK animations and use lighting to kinda hide some of the deficiencies in the model and movement or make them an alien or stick helmet on them and be done with it.

For Andromeda they handed the reigns over to the studio that did the multiplayer in ME3, which was all action no talky bits and very well received. But it's clear that team wasn't ready for primetime with the Frostbite engine and so you end up with, uh, yeah. The gameplay side seems to be, again, generally considered ok but it's pretty clear they didn't have a great handle on modelling/animating on the scale required for a full on action RPG. Now why Bioware/EA whoever didn't step in and get them help because it's their fucking flagship franchise and holy shit you can't go fucking this up is a mystery. Just bump up or adjust that budget for a bigger animation team so you can get more people who know what they're doing on this one, this is your deal.

Well yeah, it's Bioware lol. Their characters all talk like they fell out of reddit comments. That's not new, Mass Effect just took longer to get fully infected by it because the franchise started before they started recruiting, like, fanfiction.net superstars or whatever lol.

Like it's possible that the game on the whole is fine, I fully intend to play it at some point and find out myself but for now I'm kind of enjoying watching all the jank get picked apart. I've been watching that chick poop my pants run up and down those stairs off and on all day and it's great.

Cause, like, in no way should the upper level EA/Bioware guys who let this happen be let off for all that. Not that they'll care when their swimming in money, but least I can do is laugh at them anyway.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I've also been really enjoying this little gem quite a bit.

Gotta pan that camera little faster, my dude.
