What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I dunno if this poll has been done before, but....

What's your favorite Metroid location?  Is it the short lived BSL?  The tragic Tallon IV?  Take yer pick!
Thread title:
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Hard call between Zebes and Tallon IV. Tallon has some really beautiful environments, but I had to go with Zebes, because it's just classic.
Tallon IV:  3D probably has something to do with it.

Phendrana Drifts is one of the most beautiful places I can think of in all of Metroid.  Watching some of the pre-release vids, specifically the one where Samus just looks around Phendrana with the snow falling and the subtle background music, ahh, it's just gaming euphoria.

*looks around*

Err... sorry.
Tallon IV.  So much pretty scenery, that I probably wouldn't mind that my leg was being gnawed off by the hostile locals.
SR388, as great as zebes and talon IV are, i can really imagine something special going on with SR388.  The technology at the time just couldn't live up to what the planet was supposed to look like.  But, imagine how atmospheric it has to be... its the loneliest and least colorful of all the planets, and half the time your exploring these long desolate ruins of a chozo civilization, yet, while all the chozo's are long gone, all the security droids and other robots live on, and the ruins have long since became infested with the local creatures of the planet.
and of course, theyre just might be another metroid at every turn...

I also think that SR388 has a heck of a lot of potential if a remake ever comes around. It nicely blends Zebes feeling of depth and isolation, Tallons chozo ruins feeling of ancient abandoned civilisation, and BSLs feeling of imminant danger, my favourite parts of each of the others. Also, SR388 is special to me as it is the only one of the four yet to show me all its secrets (i.e. I haven't completed ROS yet, and I never know where I'm going).

With all this in SR388s favor, one question remains... what the hell was I thinking when I picked Zebes?!?! Evil or Very Mad

Tallon IV was a no brainer for me. It was so, well, alive for a change. Everywhere else, it was well, dead on the surface or being drenched with acid rain or something unpleasent like that. But the pure beauty of some of those places on Tallon IV was truly worth saving from the phazon. Now, i'm not saying that the other places werent bad, just dead on the surface, with all the action down below. So yeah, Tallon IV was my fav.
直死の魔眼使い
Zebes. More specifically, Maridia, from Super.
I've never played Prime, so my chioice was SR388. And as Syl_Aran said, it was quite atmospheric. Here and there lying empty metroid shells and never knew when a metroid hit you. Jumped me few times ;) And somehow SR388 reminds me of LV426 from Alien.

Creepy.

Well Metroid is fairly inspired by Alien.

Ridley...Ridley Scott :D

yeah, i highly doubt the LV426 -> SR388 thing could be mere coincidence, especially considering the japanese culture's infamous penchant for copying successful motifs.

ROFL!

It's a hard choice...
If I'm looking for sheer graphical splendour, design of ruins with perfect precision and continuity, raindrops dripping showing invisible platforms and otherwise stunning scenery - It's Tallon IV.

But if I'm going for that atmospheric creepyness that never knows when something will jump out - Zebes

If I want to get lost - SR388
Tallon IV.
Zebes. I find the all-natural environments sooo much more atmospheric than the temples and factories and what-not.
BSL gets no love  Crying or Very sad
Zebes, because I've been there twice.
Cook of the Sea
In my opinion, Prime is worth the money for two reasons:  first, becasue of the main title screen and file select screen (the total coolness of those two screens was the most amazing part of Prime for me, no joke, and I don't mean that in a bad way at all) and the second is to be able to walk around in Phendrana Drifts.  Beautiful.  I'm the last person you'll see judging a game by its graphics, but Prime is the exception.  It had the best interface of any Metroid ever, but the biggest thing it had going for it was style.
Gotta be Zebes. MP is my favorite metroid game, but Zebes just has the aura, you know what I mean? Caves and creepy grown tunnels and stuff. MZM's graphical update just enhanced it. All it's missing is an arctic area, like phendrana.
SR388 couldve been so good. if they remake it then it will be good. the metroid homeworld different metroid species.  i think metroid two  is one of samus biggest battles.
I can't decide yet, until I can visualize what the other planets could look like if they were 3D. Or at least give or take points for to graphical differences due past systems.

*starts visualizing*
Well, this was a huge bump.  At first, I thought this was a new topic.  I was ready to say something like "where have I seen this before?"
Viking
Precursor
Tallon IV.

Could be a great vacation spot.
AH, how could you force me to choose between Zebes and Tallon IV??
SR388
Easiest planet to get lost in.
Zebes. It's awesome. To concurr with what someone said above, I think its better than Tallon IV (not in beauty, but in creativity), because its full of changing environments, no two look the same. In Prime (one of my only real nitpicks), most of Tallon IV, especially the latter half, consists of Machinery and factories- that just gets a little dull over time...
