Metroid with guns using bullets would be plain wrong. Especially if you can pick up the guns of your enemies. Metroid is not a standard FPS.

Metroid is not an FPS, period.

It's not Metroid, it's Galactic Federation Troopers ;)

I think the point here is that we're not playing as Samus...

EXACTLY.

As for the Federation Trooper idea: It'd be pretty neat... but I honestly can't see it selling well, unless they do some really mean features, like inter-planetary travel,

Well you can travel to a space station in orbit, that good enough for ya?

multiple non-linear stories and several references to earlier Metroid games.

I've already hinted at that in my initial post. You are able to change the way the story runs in between missions. And of course it'll have several references to Metroid. IT IS in the same universe.

Quote:
Samus should DEFINITELY be involved in some sort. It IS the Metroid universe, and the Federation has Samus do a lot of work for them. The chance that a group of troopers _wouldn't_ come in contact with Samus is some way would be rather small, especially if both pirates and metroids are involved in their mission. She hunts those, you know.

No, no, no and no. Put Samus in there and you might as well call it Metroid Prime 3. Seriously, the idea of a spinoff is to go to a new focus. The main Metroid series belongs to Samus but the spinoffs should only mention her. Yeah, the Federation gets Samus to do a lot of work for them. So what if they sent Samus to Zebes to destroy Mother Brain while at this very moment these Federation Troopers are trying to kick these Pirates off this planet ;) Think about it. The Pirates are very well organised, remember.

The thing about expanding is that YOU ARE NOT SAMUS but you're still in the same universe as her. And because of that, you can change the game into any genre you want. First Person Shooter, Real Time Strategy, Roleplaying Game, Spaceflight Sim... just as long as it fits in with the story Metroid has going for itself. Samus will ALWAYS be the star and will always drive the main story and focus forward, but there is no harm in creating more stories, ones that are different and interesting to the mix.

It was just a Mega Man joke, guys.  I knew what you meant. :)

I'm suprised that Nintendo hasn't made a Metroid Pinball (playing as the Morph Ball). I mean, they've turned about every other series into a pinball game.
I hate Sonic Spinball. I'm sure I speak for many others in this light.
Unk @ the metroid pinball idea. But I don't think even Nintendo would do that.
red chamber dream
You never know. They made a Sonic Spinball, Kirby's tilt 'n' Tumble, Pokemon Pinball, and now they have a Mario pinball game.
All of those games I never thought could possibly be turned into pinball.
I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to drop the Morph Ball on a table and bop it around a bit.

But I think it's a bad idea.
i highly doubt that nintendo would go as far as making a metroid pinball game, but they've done some pretty stupid stuff...so who knows :?
I want to ask a question sense I havent played the first 3 metroid games. (metroid, Return of Samus, Super metroid) In ANY metroid game has samus had actual contact with another person? (alive) example, a federation trooper, a native to the planet, etc. (beside the guy in mp:2) It would be cool to actually play as one of the federation troopers having to do various missions, or even "help" samus with somthing.

I like the idea of playing as a federation trooper, vehicles is an maybe.  we dont need another halo game, Rolling Eyes , Although if vehicles were to be implanted, maybe a limited access or use would be ok. (you dont see samus using a vehicle to travel do ya?)  a limited access would be like a one time use thing, for instance:
You have to drive a small squad of federation troopers to a specific area, and on the way you get attacked by whatever and loose the vehicle to a magical explosion  Laughing

Going on about a gameplay style. (like MP or Fusion) I would prefer a game sort of like fusion. sense you are a federation trooper you can't decide where your mission is, just how you carry out that mission. So it would be like fusion, having to take orders to do sertain things.  But if you were givin multiple "objectives" you would be able to decide which ones to do first, in some cases. Also you would recieve "new objectives" as the game progresses. Say you have to use a certain elevator to reeach one objective, and the power is offline, you recieve a new objective to restore power, duh, and then continue on.  stuff like that.

Ready and willing.

In Super, she meets with some scientists in the intro, but by the time you go back and actually play, they've all been killed.

I'd use the  Evil or Very Mad  on him instead.

Or the <-oO-> Tie Bomber!
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Sonic Spinball has fans?  That makes me cry a little on the inside...
it's more of a love-hate relationship ... like fusion! almost bought a japanese copy of sonic spinball just for the heck of it yesterday ... but decided i'd better save my money as i still have over a week left here.
everybody knows it's true
It would be cool to play samus with allies, like Call of Duty
Samus is a loner.

Yeah, IMO she should always go it alone.

If Samus isn't alone, you get Fusion.  And we all know how well that worked out, don't we?
