can you not re-socket if you put a gem in?

In WoW you can put a gem in, but then if you decide you want to replace it you destroy the old gem and put the new one in.
red chamber dream
nah, it's even better than that. you can desocket a gem to get both the gem and the item back. so now there's no reason not to use gems as soon as you get them. sooo much better than diablo ii's sytem.

after playing most of act ii, i'm really impressed with this game. it's better than dii in every way, and it's simply a lot more fun to play. the skill system fucking ruls.

D3 confirmed to have sweet lesbo shipping

oh yeah heh that reminds me, i originally tried to name my wizard leah (since it's my favorite name) but it wouldn't let me ... fucking leah. >:O

oh wow. Yeah I unlocked the jewler guy now and saw that, that's pretty sweet. although it means there will be almost no market for selling gems.

hell yes. They're actually changing WoW to be the same way, totally removing talent trees.

my little sister's name is Leah so that would be weird

yeah, i just love how practically every level you gain gives you new toys to play with. i'm constantly switching up my skills - atm i'm killing shit with chain lightning from afar, then running in and using frost nova + arcane orbit for massive damage.
oh yeah, and i'm using constant storm armor + familiar (more useful than hydra at my level) for more ownage.

compare that to using chain lightning + blizzard for the entirety of dii. so blehh.

can't imagine anything i care less about :P

I have the worst imagination in the world, so I have a Monk and named her Monki.

I really like the skill system too. It's nice to have a much more open structure, where you don't lock yourself in to something early on and get stuck with it for the entire game. No tree + being able so switch stuff around is pretty sweet. I also like the runes, and how they don't necessarily get better and better, but are instead are simply different from each other and are good for different play styles.

The Jewler pretty much seems to suck in the beginning, but I guess he'll get much better later in the game/on later rounds on higher levels. I mean, mending together 3 somewhat rare gems to get a slightly better gem that gives like a third of the stat boost as a good piece of equipment isn't really all that exciting. +damage for a weapon was pretty neat though.

I Just started Act III an one thing I noticed is gems certainly become much more common to find.

It still seems really expensive to upgrade the jeweler though... but I still haven't gotten socketed gear, so I'm just hoarding them all in my stash

did you not play diablo ii? the goal is to eventually get perfect gems, which give huge boosts to items (and the gems in iii are way more beneficial than the ones in ii). there's also no reason to upgrade the jeweler until you actually have 3 gems that he can't combine yet, so don't waste your money early in the game.

but you're right that the very best items in the game will always be better than normal items with sockets. my methodology atm is if i come across a socketed item that's better than an item i already have, i use it and i put a gem in it. wish there were a way to add sockets to items like in torchlight. ;(

@poision do you craft items much? that's the best way to get socketed items, but it's random.
red chamber dream
lol, and just after saying that i find another socketed ring. guess i'm just lucky >_>
i socketed urmom's "ring"
red chamber dream
also poision you must be super unlucky because i am finding literally dozens of socketed items all over the place

I played it but never finished it. Don't know why really, because I definitely liked it. Anyway, yeah I expected that the gems would be more of an "endgame" thing, rather than something that's supposed to be a big benefit right at the start.

I'm finding plenty of socketed items too. I even have a few equipped that were better than anything else I had even though I didn't have a gem to put in it.
red chamber dream
lol i must be playing a different game from yall. currently my wizard has like four items socketed with gems equipped. gems are so fucking awesome in this game, for rings especially. (and i'm only in act iii of normal)

maybe the reason i'm finding so much good stuff is my 51% magic find. gotta have magic find.
Almost happy
Eh, I have 3 socketed items with gems equipped and 2 socketed items without gems currently (near the end of act ii), so I don't really have a problem finding that stuff (I have a lot of magic find buffs too).
red chamber dream
ah ok, you being in act ii makes more sense. like poision said, act iii is where you start to find gems fucking everywhere.

14 hours and 32 minutes of time played on my Mage, and I defeated Diablo. A very fun fight, although one of the previous demon bosses was much more difficult (name withheld in case it's spoilers).

Going to start my nightmare playthrough, and this time I'm going to uncover every square inch of map. I need those achievement points.

oh I didn't know crafted items could have sockets. I guess I haven't been paying attention.
Club 27 Goals
oh, question, have you guys found any blacksmithing papers, or jewler papers? I can't upgrade my BS or JC until I get some, but I have yet to find a single one.

as for socketed gear, I've only gotten a few. They're much more frequent now though.

red chamber dream
they're only in nightmare and above
Club 27 Goals
ah okay, guess I'll start stumbling into some soon

Heh, I'm at almost 13 hours after just finishing act ii, but I have been pretty damn thorough.
Club 27 Goals
yeah I just kinda blazed through once I completed Act III cause I wanted to see the end. I probably could have found much nicer gear if I poked around instead of just running past everything.

oh that reminds me, the only real gripe I have so far is the Auction House. You can't change how long your item stays up for, and that sucks. I also didn't know there was a ten item limit, so the day before yesterday I stuck up ten yellow items (really low level stuff) and of course nobody is going to seriously bid on stuff that low, so I'm SoL with trying to sell the new actually good stuff.
red chamber dream
yeah there's really no reason not to just blow through normal, since you know any gear you get is just going to be replaced once you reach the higher difficulties ... that's really the only thing i don't like much about diablo games, but that's just how they are. they ride the line between mmo and traditional rpg, so they're hard for me to get into sometimes. but they're just so fun to play, so whatever.

man Azmodan was such a bitch of a fight. The people that just say "Oh Diablo III is just click-to-win grindfest" has obviously never done a boss fight.

like seriously Azmodan was harder than the final boss for me. Seems like he had lots of insta-death bullshit, although thinking back if I had Teleport I probably wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it.
