In all honesty, if you don't like Halo, I think you've just not played enough of it. I didn't like Halo at all, at first. The theme didn't appeal to me, it felt slow, and the controller confused me so damn much.

Then, somehow, I found myself playing it nearly every day until Halo 2 was released... Halo 2 didn't last quite as long, but I still get reminded of our splitscreen multiplayer sessions and draw a long sigh of nostalgia. I'm LONGING for Halo 3 now. But not for the incredible multiplayer, or the perfect co-op, but for the story. Halo has the most compelling story I've ever seen in an action game. No, shut up, Half-Life, I don't like you anymore!

You could always Buy Halo 2 and stick it in the 360 when you get one. Just to try. Although the story would confuse you lots if you haven't played the first one over and over until you figure out what it's about. Still... you really should give it a chance.
I played an hour of the first Halo's single player on the PC a while ago, but I've never gone back to it. I normally like FPS games, especially sci-fi FPS, but nothing really stood out with Halo to make me want to play it more.

And I've never touched the multiplayer of Halo before, so I can't really say anything about that. My brother plays it every once in a while with his friends and he enjoys it, so who knows. We used to love playing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark years ago, so most likely I would enjoy Halo multiplayer as well. I just haven't gotten around to it before.

It also doesn't hurt that I've NEVER played anything on an XBox or the 360 either. Not because I hate the systems, but since they never had enough games my family liked to warrant a purchase. (Never even played it through a friend, either.)

And I love Half-Life 2's story by the way.

That's a pretty ignorant thing to say. Not everyone automatically loves a game just because you or the majority of players you talk to do. Halo just does not appeal to me at all. Very very very few FPSs appeal to me, in fact (the first Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Half-Life are the only exceptions so far)-- they're just not the type of game I'm into; the same is true with most sports games, particularly Madden, another game that I feel most people just assume everyone loves and gets defensive when they discover I can't stand to play it. I like a good adventure, puzzle, RPG, platformer, or music game and don't tend to stretch to much beyond those genres.

Like you, I don't like certain things at first (particularly new music from familiar artists) but I generally get used to and learn to love them. Halo and a lot of other things make up the common exceptions. I have given both games a chance on various occasions; I don't just decide to not like something without trying it.

... except roller coasters. I will not ride a roller coaster.

Story means nothing if I don't like the gameplay. KHII was difficult enough to sit through, even though it had an amazing story, because the gameplay was generally very boring.
Valid points, all of em. I guess I am a bit ignorant when it comes to Halo. I just think it's such a fantastic experience. I can't even compare it to everything else. But most of the things that I love so much are things that I never noticed the first time I played it. Or the second. In fact, some things probably took until the hundreth play until I noticed how awesome those little details are. It just feels like every pixel in Halo is placed with a much greater plan in mind. You start out with the most versatile gun in the game. You never encounter anything more, or less, useful. All enemies are fun to combat (okay, except sentinels), and the levels, though repetitive, are made really great because enemy quantity, ranks and placement is slightly randomized each time you play.

I won't write a freaking essay now... even though I want to. I'm just saying, even though first person shooters is my favorite genre, I'm really picky with them, too. Most FPS that get good reviews tend to disappoint me. I honestly do think, if you like ANY FPS, you would like Halo. And now I stop ranting about it.

I dislike Halo because I dislike FPSs in general.

heh, just exchange the digits in the day.

good work.
Oh great... about a week before I head back for my first semester of Junior year. So much for helping out with early sequence breaking and speed running around here. But if this turns out to be true...  I don't think I'll care about that stuff by that point. grin new I just want the game!

And on a side note, did anybody notice that neither Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros Brawl are on that summer/fall list?
Yeah, but the list is for games coming out till september and I think that Nintendo will release these two probably most important titles at christmas time

But right now I am happy, that Metroid Prime 3 finally has an official release date! I am glad for you US guys and I also hope for a early  PAL version.

Maybe we'll get some new information tomorrow

i will end up getting halo 3 eventually, but its just a matter of when.

I won't end up getting it this year though, as i don't have a 360 as of this time.

my Wii isn't connected to the internet anyways, so i dont have to worry about autoupdates.  I've been trying to connect it to the internet, but im not able to... my xbox worked through a wireless router, but the Wii won't...

I'll figure that out when i get SSBB.
August is only for U.S release right? :( Why cannot we all live in one big country so we wouldnt have to deal with different timezones, money, and most importantly, different release date :( :( :( Damn you God!

Edit: So according to http://wii.ign.com/objects/748/748547.html Europe gets it at September 27th. Wanker.

If that date IS true, then that means I'll have to buy a US Wii to play it *sighs* Good to see it's coming out just after HALO 3 launches in the UK as well. It'll get beaten to a pulp my HALO 3's sales if it launches then, it really will :(

Hey, that's not TOO bad, at least not compared to most instances of Eurape.

Who cares-- we'll all still have it, right? Comparative sales don't really mean much; it'll still do well in its own right and therefore Nintendo will keep pumping out Metroid games. Plus, Halo and Metroid aren't really competing.

Tell that to the MP2 launch however many years ago.
It seemed like that only happened to MP2 because the more mainstream game news (cheap magazines, IGN, that kind of thing, not sure what to call them but i think you get the idea, pretty much all that over colorful, screenshot filled hyper feeling stuff) wanted drama, and there just happened to be a first person game on each system. I don’t think Metroid ever wanted to compete directly with Halo, and Killzone was just some random FPS game that never stood a chance anyway.
While I would much rather see the gap between NTSC and PAL release be smaller, I don't think it will be enough time to make changes for the PAL version. And what I really, really want, more than a near simultaneous release, is for the two versions to be the identical - although those two things are pretty much mutually exclusive.

There's what, 5 and a half weeks from August 20 - September 27? I don't know much about game development but that hardly seems like enough time for the US buyers to get the game, discover exploits, have Retro read about the exploits, make changes and press the discs and ship to PAL territories.

Anyone remember what the gap was between the Echoes US and PAL release? I do recall them both being released towards the tail end of the year.

A subtle dig at PAL? a and o are quite far apart on most keyboards...
Haha. Perfect european release date for me since I should be able to buy a wii at that time. :p
Too bad for anyone who already owns one / could buy one earlier, though.

There were about two weeks between both releases. But I might be wrong. : /

The event today in Seattle starts at 12pm EDT and 8am PDT, supposedly.  (It is expected that the first bit of news is out by 9pm EDT, 6pm PDT.)  Get ready for an all day media blowout!

If that's the official boxart, I will be a very happy fellow. Less is more, always.

Yeah, DJ coined the term IIRC.

It's more just a dig at the way Europe gets the shaft with most game releases, not at PAL itself.
