In all honesty, if you don't like Halo, I think you've just not played enough of it. I didn't like Halo at all, at first. The theme didn't appeal to me, it felt slow, and the controller confused me so damn much.
Then, somehow, I found myself playing it nearly every day until Halo 2 was released... Halo 2 didn't last quite as long, but I still get reminded of our splitscreen multiplayer sessions and draw a long sigh of nostalgia. I'm LONGING for Halo 3 now. But not for the incredible multiplayer, or the perfect co-op, but for the story. Halo has the most compelling story I've ever seen in an action game. No, shut up, Half-Life, I don't like you anymore!
You could always Buy Halo 2 and stick it in the 360 when you get one. Just to try. Although the story would confuse you lots if you haven't played the first one over and over until you figure out what it's about. Still... you really should give it a chance.
