Just found out through Gamespot that Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is coming on October 1, and Corruption has been delayed yet again...

...but only to August 27th:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6173442.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0

They don't mention any reason for the delay at all, except that the game was originally coming out at about the same time as Madden 08.
Thread title:
Only a week, no biggie. Hope the European release date wont be affected by this delay.

Hah, same here, man. I'm sure I'll find time for it, though. Maybe it'll be as polished as Twilight Princess!!

If it's only a week in Europe, too, then it should be no problem there either.

Mass production?
Why do people automatically think they = Retro always is the source of evil and its theirs fault because of this delay? Perhaps the DHL boys are tired, and need to spend a week with their wives and mistresses, tell their precious children a nice little fairy tale before going out to the sea and deliver those nasty little games to us.
everybody knows it's true

According to the article, Metroid was originally coming out a week after Madden, but now there's going to be a two week gap between them with the delay. Still don't see why that's a big deal for Nintendo, since the games have NOTHING to do with each other in terms of genre and audience.

But if given the choice between one or the other, I have a feeling that most casual gamers would probably go after Madden, since Metroid has never really been targeted towards the majority of the gaming population.
...at least until Prime, which was a huge hit and brought tons of Metroid fans onto the scene?

If Metroid wasn't a complete success, Prime Pinball and Hunters wouldn't exist.

It just doesn't have the same name-recognition as Zelda and Mario, because Nintendo is afraid to market it. That, it's a little less lovable than said titles.
Even with the success of Metroid Prime, I still feel that the Metroid series is not targeted towards the main population of gamers, at least to the extent that franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Madden are. Yeah, the series has been gaining a lot of momentum over the last five years, but those three have had A LONG time to gain fanbases. (Yes, Metroid has been around as long as they have, but the series wasn't as well known as it is now back in 1994.)

Either way, if that was the only reason to delay by a week I don't see the point in doing so.
i don't think nintendo thinks of it like that. i think they think that if there is a chance they will sell more, then they will do it, period.
I guess you have a point there.
Zelda and Mario have a billion spin-offs and crappy games to go along with the good ones, which is part of why they're so popular. People know the names. (That, and it wasn't Metroid that made the best-selling game of all time title that Mario Bros 3 did).  I'm kind of happy with having every reviewer worth his salt pimp the incredibly good but few Metroid games there are, rather than give a bad rap to a lot of them.

I've only played one Zelda game I didn't like (and I've played all the Zelda games) and one other that was just eh. Would say that Mario has many more misses then Zelda does, but even Mario canon is usually great.

Speaking of which, Zelda has exactly ONE spin-off.

I would say he was referring to Four Swords or FSA, as Freshly Picked - Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland isn't out in America yet. Plus, there's also Tingle's Balloon Fight, which is also only out in Japan.

The TV show is a spin-off, yes, but it's not a game, and the CD-i games don't even count.

FSA. Four Swords itself doesn't totally count since it isn't the only thing on the cart. And yeah, I forgot about Mr. Tingle there.

i think mario and spin-off are exchangeable words.

btw, the best selling game of all time is still SMB1 for NES. SMB3 is behind SMW and SML1.
