50 is more than enough for Netorri. At least if you don't miss and use power bombs and charge beams. Roughly 30 is needed Nightmare.

Not many is need for Yakuza. The best way to kill im in the end phase is with charge shots IMO.

In new run I'll only have 25. I can't think of any more missile expansions that won't put me behind too much.
Please note that Nate did his run BEFORE the "secret spot" @ nettori was found. Charged shots at point blank range > missiles.
Yes. I know. I have never used the secret spot anyway. I think it is too hard to get set up right. I might try it in this latest run since I'm recording it.

On to business...

I could not be happier with this segemnt. (Well I would never be able to pull this off again anytime soon even with the amount of mistakes I made.)

Still can't do the Sess jump. I still use DaveB's. But the reason I love this segment..... I stopped the timer at 4:30:76. And I made it back to the save without too many mishaps. I mess up a little in the verticle shaft. (Costing maybe a second). Then I accicently morph too soon and get hit by my bomb. Other than that, It was great and I will not be retrying this again.

Save at 0:27:(even closer to 0. maybe 1 or .5)

Didn't get 26 but I am not throwing this away.
I always noticed a strange duality regarding hardcore metroid players:

"I hate Fusion! It's too linear and you can't sequence break and it's crappy and it sucks! By the way, I just beat the game in 15 minutes without getting any items..."

Wassup was never in the hating Fusion camp. Neither was anybody else who's done any runs in Fusion that I've heard of, although Nate may now hate Fusion after his run, but he might've cooled off.
Yes, as Yoshi said, I have always loved Fusion. I wasn't really knowledgable of SBing because Metroid II was my first Metroid game. That has a little bit of linearity to it too. And I never played SM 3 or Metroid 1 before. That's why I never was disappointed in Fusion.
... but keep in mind that sess's strategy is still probably faster.
I have completed every Metroid game so now I look back on the special accomplishments. One special one is completing Metroid Fusion 30+ Times. If only I could speedrun. It would put those hours of playing to good use.

My longest segment is done at last. (9 minutes on tape). It was fairly easy. Only took me an hour or so.

:)

The next part may take some time. I've practiced fighting Yakuza on an emulator and I can get him in the blue before he falls every now and then. But it's going to be a lot harder on the SP. Hold in A, R, and up, and semi-rapidly press B. So practicing on the SP will take 1 try every 2 or 3 minutes just because I start back at the ship.

:(
indeed. watching sess do it seemed to help me a little, just to get the precise timing of the opening shots. not sure if it will do the same for you, but just a suggestion.
And you have to cross the pirate gauntlet everytime, which sess hated, so I'm sure you do too :D
What's Sess been up to anyway? He hasn't been here in awhile.

The Yakuza thing isn't as hard as I thought. I'm not as efficient as I am with an emulator, but I know a spot where I can shoot him and never get hit by his fire. Now when he crawls around, I haven't determined that spot yet. I always stay on his left side, becuase he has an easy pattern on that side.

I can't really explain it. But when he moves to another spot, I know exactly where to stand in order to shoot him and be far enough away from the fire. I use the backround as a reference, and the spots to stand are very clearly defined. Not good for a speed run unless its a single segment, because the spots that I know are on the far left side of the room (2 spots there). I just need to determine the one near the middle of the room.

Now if I'm on the right side of him when he begins to crawl (for the first time only) his positions will be very different from the other.

a lot of things are like this for me in fusion. i guess the "frontier days" of fusion are coming to an end with all the speed runs going on, but i still occasionally feel my "spider sense" tingling while playing and know what i need to do without knowing why.
And bam... another segment done (at last!)

Segment #8- AQA (Boss)

Evil or Very Mad .  What a pain this segment was.  One of the following things would happen:

A. Screw up jump to small hole in save room while morphing.
B. Screw up wall jump in the boss door room.
C. Get a boss door which shoots at me first.
D. Get a bad Serris fight.
E. Get a perfect Serris fight (As in, killing it with only 2 charged shots, plus having it come out of speed mode right in front of me), but get a bad Core-X fight.
F. Good Serris/Core-X fights, but mess up jumping and fall into water (did that once).
G. See F, but replace "accidental jump into water" with "sucky last half of segment".

Not good eh?  I was quite agitated with that.  After some 20+ attempts, I finally got it.  Perfect boss door, coupled by a perfect Serris fight (I think it went out of speed mode right in front of me, or it was real close), and a excellent Core-X fight (killed it very close to the sweet spot there).  The last half of the segment went well enough for me (took a few hits here and there, but that didn't stop me).  I'm saved just a room away from the AQA nav room.

Time= 0:16, which I'm happy with so far.

Sess has a habit of dissapearing for 4 or 5 months, then coming back. Okay, only once isn't grounds for a habit, but still...

You want me to do a PLANNED speedrun?
I think I could do that...
I'll wait until W.Dawgs has finished his run, then I might try to copy it. Too bad I can't even pull of the first walljumpshaft, so I'll probably get a time around 1:00. If I try alot.
Yakuza segment done. I didn't get a very good core-X fight. I miscounted the number of times I hit it due to the fact that I was also scrambling for green X's. Didn't kill it in the middle but it wasn't too bad. The rest of the segment turned out pretty good.

Saved before Netorri: 0:34

Netorri segment also done. The fight turned out fairly decent. I have a simpler strategy than Sess, but due to the larger amount of missiles I have, it's all ok. Muddled up the spark from Nav to elevator again.

This part is going to be a very large pain. I hate space boosting. The videos I made on this site getting the power ups took me forever, even using save states.
Well.  After spending literally weeks studying the various Fusion runs, (Sess's 1%, DaveB's 100% in 1:16, and Nate's 0:53) as well as planning a route, and practicing various techniques for hours at a time, I went at it and produced these two runs, which are both new personal bests by at least 20 minutes.

any%:  22%  1:04

100%:  1:30

I seemed to have 1:04 block for any%, cause I got this time every time i tried.
...
I'm quite proud of myself.  :D
A personal best by 20 minutes is very good at that low of a time. Good job.

I know what you should do to improve your time, from personal experience.
When I was speedrunning myself, without internet help, the best I could get was 1:23. I thought that was pretty good, and I thought I couldn't do better after 3 1:23 runs in a row. That's when I stopped playing Fusion for a long time. Then I started sequence breaking MP, after finding some stuff through GameFAQs. Anyway, skipping the MP part of the story...
I read Wassup Dawgs' speedrun FAQ at GameFAQs, and then I made a speedrun again. 1:10 36%. I thought "Wow, this went A LOT faster than what I had earlier.", which was true... I started a new run, skipping a few items, and got 1:03 (I think it was) with about 20 or so %. This was very good.
After doing several runs, not changing the route, I kept getting 1:03. It was pretty irritating that I didn't improve. So I tried to find new tactics against bosses, and lowered my % to 15. BAM! 1:00. :D
And now, my first routed run will be made next week, aiming for :55.
Yeah, that FAQ changed my way of speedrunning. I think I got better at MP speedrunning thanks to those tips, somehow. Laughing

My point? You can still improve that time. I will get better....
I'm glad my guide is helping people. It took me awhile to make.

2 new segments completed.

Nightmare segment: Such a pain. Didn't get the space boosting all the way. Had a nice Nightmare fight and a core-X fight. I miscounted on the Core-X again. But I was prepared, I started connecting all the hits with it in the middle just in case (since I scrambled after greed X's again.) The X never moved after the last hit, so I just stood there for about a second, before my reflexes could kick in.

Eh ha.  I just checked out said speedrun guide, and I must say it was very helpful indeed.  WASD, you say that it's a bit "sloppy" but I digress.  The ASCII art was very easy to follow, some of the best ive ever seen actually, and there weren't any text errors.  Definitely one of the better Metroid guides out there.

Now I feel like speedrunning fusion again.  On that note, to all Fusion runners who have also speedrun another metroid game, does fusion feel easier to speedrun to you?  I know it does to me, mostly because all the events are scripted out and there aren't a bunch of sequence-broken routes to choose from.

Well, im off to reinstall McAfee security.  To the Batcave!!
It's only evil because of adam. Thank god for the speed up button in VBA.
You think he's evil there?  How about restarting a segment that has TWO LONG ADAM YAP SESSIONS on a GBA SP?  That sucks majorly.  Evil or Very Mad
