I just couldn't do it on console, and I'm going to stop trying probably. I know it's possible on console, but I don't want to permanently break my controller, as I just found out...

...that my controller works! :) I played my segmented run forward and got 25 at the LN elevator. I could've probably done a very high 24 with the perfect segment but I didn't feel like it. I'll just make this a 40 min run.

After that: Onto 39 SS! :P
Nice, Cpadolf, looks like you've got the hang of it. This is certainly one of the "shocker" type of tricks, together with full pre-Draygon spark and the like, that make a run look really cool.

So I'm still the only one who finds that shinespark easy?
How much would you estimate another super missile pack saves during the entire normal route any% run if taken pretty much in the beginning?

I thought of something but I am not quite sure if it is worth it at all. I think the only things that are eased and maybe faster with an extra pack are the boss fights (well, Botwoon, Draygon and Ridley mostly). Any other thoughts?

I could only see it saving a few seconds on Ridley... but there aren't any other Super Missile packs close enough to the route that would take less time to get than the time saved on Ridley.

Like where? The closest one to the usual route beside the three more-or-less obvious ones is the one in Maridia in the big room with snails, IIRC.
It might speed up the Draygon fight by one round, but then again, it might not. It's likely not worth to take it for Ridley because he can be killed without it in about the same time with murder beam or nicely timed charged ice/wave/plasma shots. Botwoon will most likely not take you that many supers. You don't need supers for Mother Brain. That's about it, I guess...

Although, if you tend to miss super missile hits a lot, it might be worth a shot. Keep in mind, it's about 12+ seconds detour.

I have tried the torizo skip on console now and indeed i find it to be harder... in 14 tries i made it 2 times so it will make SS runs with this trick extremly anoying.

The hard part to me is neither to make a perfect turnaround at the bombs, i do that ~75% of the time and it's not the armpumping, it's the jump before the door i find hard to time correctly, if i only jump at the right spot i usualy get out beacuse i can do the turnaround at the door almost all the time.

Moozooh said that this trick will save ~20 seconds in a TAS wich makes me think that it will save me ~30-35 seconds atleast wich is a good encouragement to have the patience of doing the trick in a SS cus it will most likely lower my endtime by 1 minute.

I was thinking the Spore Spawn super missiles. That would be a nice touch for the run, but it would just waste time obtaining them. I found out exactly how to get them on my way to Kraid. Well, that should be a nice trick for the 100% run if I am ever enthusiastic enough to make one.

Its not that I tend to miss super missile shots, I was just thinking if they would speed up the run even a little.... But the plasma beam is so powerful that supers are hardly needed after obtaining it. Maybe my Tourian segment might speed up a little, because I tend to stop and collect more super missiles from Metroids. I am way too overcautious about my ammo near the end.

Augh... so much for my new controller.

When I press left or right, it always presses them with up! I can't even walljump! :x

I don't know what to do...

Split the d-pad.

Is that even possible without completely screwing it up?
Is it better as it is currently?
coral to complement blue
Better than completely screwed up? Probably... it doesn't do it all the time, but I have to go to great lengths to get it to not do it. It's possible that I need to "break it in" so to speak, but maybe not. I just don't want to take any risks that might permanetely destroy it. It is a GREAT controller otherwise.

I just hope you're talking to me as if you've done this sort of thing before. =P
Well, it may just require cleaning. In any case, the first thing I'd probably do is opening the case and checking if everything is okay there. Splitting d-pad doesn't necessarily screw it up, and you might even be able to stitch it back up with a very thin pin. In either case, do it at your own risk.

I took it apart, and I don't think that it can be split...

The button "triggers" look like this:

Code:
  o
o o
  o

And the D-Pad is connected to a larger circle, with pads on the bottom side that match each of those triggers. The + shaped D pad itself doesn't make any contact with the triggers, so it wouldn't really work.

EDIT: Good news! I took it apart again, fiddled with the insides for a while, put it back to together, and now it works!

:31, here I come...

Made a new SS try yesterday trying to apply the torizo skip... I turns out to be rather anoying... After 5 restarts i finaly got it though and the rest of the run went ok, trickwise it was one of the better runs i've made with:

-Torizo skip  :P
-Kraid quick kill
-Norfair Gatehater
-2 room shine before Red brinstar shaft
-Clean WS break in
-3 round phantoon (still not even trying 2 round, will probably do eventually.)
-Top WS room shine
-Gravity shine
-Very quick 2 round Botwoon (only 1 Smissile in second round)
-3 round dragoyn
-LN Pillar room shine

End time 00:41, could easily have been 00:40 or even 00:39 if i only my general speed had been better for this run. at several places i got stuck a little to long missing easy jumps. All in all the general speed was a little better then in my 00:44 run but i had hoped for much better since i've learned all the rooms in the game much better since the completition of my 00:39 segmented.

Feels like sub 40 SS is really close now and thanks moozooh for tying the realtime torizo skip grin new
Shocked  Shocked

I suddenly feel so bad in this game. :P I kinda hate to be pwned this badly, since I couldn't even after 1½ hours succeed in the Torizo Skip. I'm probably now gonna try it on emu to see if it comes any easier. But that run sounds so godlike, really. Did you do the Red Scarlet style break in to WS or what? And Hotarubi style spark before the Red Brinstar climbing? I hate to be pwned this badly... :(

Curse you Cpadolf!  grin new

EDIT:
You know fucking what, I can't even do that skip on emulator with savestates and slowdown without turnaround at the door and even that comes extremely close. :(

Are you arm pumping?

I just learned the meaning of that the other day. I assumed it meant the player's arm pumped or something, but this is apparently not the case. >_>
Actually, Tonski, why would you want to skip the turnaround? It only makes the skip easier, not the otherwise.
Almost happy
No not the Red scarlet WS break in, i just mean that I pretty much did'nt stop AI very quick first spark and prefectly charged up the second spark without turning around to get more momentum.
And yes hotarubi style shine in Red brinstar.
Finally i have found a secure method that get's me LN pillar room charge 90% of the time without doing the press dash 4 times charge  :P  Only works on PAL i think though...

Accually the run was'nt that good, trickwise it was extremly good but speed wise it could have been much better.
Is the Hotarubi style shine much harder in PAL?  It's one of the easier tricks to do.  Skipping Chozo and pre-Draygon shinespark, on the other hand, is pretty hardcore.
Almost happy
Yes that shinespark is MUCH harder in PAL version, IIRC it requires near pixel/frame perfection to be pulled of. Chozo skip is not that hard only annoying since failure means reset. Don't confuse it with skiping chozo in NTSC though, that is almost impossible even in TAS.
>_>

You are talking about WS break in right?
coral to complement blue
I thought that they were talking about the Red Brinstar Shine, but I don't see how that could be difficult on PAL.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Maybe he's trying a super missile method that has him trying to spark on the left ledge instead of on the missile pillar?
