If you're referring to your 0:55 100%, it's next on my list. :) ... Right now, with the TMT topic I started up, my focus has been on getting my any% times better. I've gotten 100% items in Prime, Prime 2, Fusion, and M2:RoS - and maybe in Metroid 1, back in 1986 - but I've never finished a 100% run of MZM or Super. Now, my excuse in MZM is that I've only finished it twice (and, I've currently got a 100% file going, saved right after the Chozodia crash); but I really have no excuse for Super. ... I guess, based on my previous post that I'll never be a WR holder, that my aim is to become one of the most well-rounded Metroid players out there. And, I'm still a long way away. Never finished a 100% MZM or Super game. Never beaten Echoes or MZM on hard (working on MZM - saved before Momma Brain; never tried yet in Echoes). Never tried a low% run in any Metroid game. Never sequence broken Echoes. Et cetera. ... I've heard great things about the 0:55 run, and I know you put a lot into it - so much that it pretty much put you off of speed running Super for good. I'm looking forward to seeing it, as I know it'll be top-notch stuff. ... (Of course, if you WEREN'T talking about your 0:55 100%, then completely ignore everything I just said. )

Ahahahahahahaha! Nice to meet...my nemesis! I have the same goal (well, maybe you should spread that around to being one of the most well rounded gamers of anything and everything that I think is cool) and virtually no aspirations/expectations of (Metroid) speed-run records. This is of course hampered by the fact that I don't own Metroid II and that I've never remotely bothered to try 100% Super and now hardly want to...
I'm interested in seriously sequence breaking both Primes though, and finishing 15% (and eventually 10%) MZM (I always run out of stuff fighting Ridley then die! Aah!).
I replayed the end of my 1:21 save (before MB) and got 1:32. I guess I can do it as I can pinpoint the other sickeningly terrible part of my run: the old tourian escape shaft. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the beginning of this game!
Re-ran the last segment, got a 1:23 this morning. Now, my final save is in Tourian, after the Metroids and before the Zebetites, in 1:17 - so, 6 minutes for the last segment is doable. 7 minutes should be easily gotten, and 8 minutes for that segment should be cake. If your final save is 1:21, you should be able to get 1:28 or 1:29 pretty easily - but you're only getting a 1:32 - meaning 11 minutes for the segment. Something's up here. Try this: ... (I'm coming through the last bit with 6 e-tanks, 1 reserve tank, 70 missiles, and 30 supers. If you have much fewer missiles/supers, then you might have some trouble.) For each of the 4 Zebetites: ice beam to freeze all 3 Rinkas, then stand close and blast away w/ regular missiles (about 10-12 for each one). For MB in tank: freeze 3 Rinkas, use up the rest of my missiles on the glass, switch to supers. Refreeze Rinkas/dodge Rinkas as I pound MB with supers. For awakened MB: aim diagonally up and use up the rest of my supers before she starts moving. Use charged ice/wave/plasma shots on her head, while jumping to avoid attacks as necessary. Then, you go through the whole cinema - afterwards, diagonally aim up and just hold down fire button continuously to drain MB's health. Occasional small jumps MAY be needed to dodge attacks, but this bit should take about 30 seconds. ... For the escape - Room 1 - run through, hyper beam to break barriers Room 2 - fall down, exit right through door Room 3 - go to bottom, dash right, charge a spark and shinespark up to the door. Exit right. Room 4 - climb the shaft, head right, drop down, head left, drop down, climb the room using screw attack or hyper beam to dispose of pirates. Open the door and clear the way of pirates. Back up to your left. Dash right while firing hyper beam to clear the way... Room 5 - press down to charge your spark, get on the far right side of the room, shinespark up past 98% of the platforms. Exit at top Room 6 - climb the rocky shaft as quickly as you can. Head right and open the door Room 7 (landing site) - get to your ship and you're done === Really - a bit of practice on the last segment, and with a 1:21 final save, you should be able to get at worst a 1:29 finish. :)
Skipped Grapple beam, did murder beam. I had to backtrack a bit for a third energy tank for Ridley, though. Not a great time, but I still got to see Samus. <3
To add to MonsterERB's post, the Zebetite pass-through glitch makes the Zeebetites faster, since they disappear, and Murder Beam on MB makes that fight much faster.
Yep. Those are two tricks I'm definitely planning on putting in for my current run. The Zebetite glitch, especially, should save a large chunk of time. ... So, my last run was a 1:23, 41% finish. I've got a run going right now that's basically the same route, but skipping a few unnecessary expansions, and also skipping screw attack - it will be a 34% collection rate. (5 e-tanks instead of 6; no screw attack; 20 supers instead of 30; 55 missiles instead of 70.) ... Right now, I've defeated Kraid, done all my Norfair item collection, and saved in upper Brinstar after getting powerbombs. Clock time is 0:21 - on my previous (1:23) run, the clock time at this save point was 0:28, so I'm already 7 minutes ahead. I don't think I'm quite fast enough for a 1:00 or under finish, but I'm hoping to break 1:10. Wish me luck.
That's not a bad time at all. I picked up SM for the first time in about 10 years earlier this year, and did an any%, no tricks run in 3:03. Then, I tried for a sequence breaking speed run, and got a 1:23 finish. ... My current run is coming along pretty well. I'm saved in Ridley's hideout (before the ninja pirates and Ridley) in 0:43 - for my 1:23 run, this same save was at 1:01, so I'm 18 minutes up on that. I'll probably end up a minute or three above 1:00. Liking this game more and more, the more I play it. :D
Finished my run this morning. Remember how I kept saying, "don't think I'm fast enough for a 1:00 or under finish"? Well, I was half right. 34% item collection in precisely 1:00. ... Now, I'll try the last bit again and see if I can get the Zebetite skip down. (Murder beaming Mother Brain was quite easy - fun as well. ) A bit more skill + the Zebetite skip will hopefully = 0:59.
I've lately been working on improving my 100% time, but I'm starting to feel the effects of burnout again, so it's not likely that anything impressive will come of it.
Reached 45 minutes today. ZSNES recording, not much to watch as it is full of mistakes. With some patience to polish the running, I think I could do 43 or 42 now.
I finally got around to doing a half decnet run of super and managed to get 1:25 however, this game is a little fustrating to play when the emu you're using dosen't recongnize your usb pad's d pad and you have to use the analog stick T.T
I have done another run on the console similar to this one but I didn't remelber my time, so that's why I had to do it over. seeing as I need to get a controller for my super nintendo as my ex has the controllers (she bought them so . . . . . I didn't get them >.< )
Improved my any% time to 0:44 min - 35% (skillbased and single-segmented) and was only 15-20 sec away of 0:43 :-( which was really reachable if I haven't done some of the unnecessary errors.
Since I was at home over the weekend where my SNES is, I decided to speed run SM out of boredom. This was my first real attempt at an any% speed run. 0:56 and 37% SS. I made a couple huge mistakes along the way, so this could be vastly improved. I could have redone Tourian from my save at the ship and probably shaved off a few minutes. *goes to update TMT*
It's funny, because when I do my first "speed" playthrough of a metroid game, I find out the cutoff time, and miss it by two or three minutes.
My 100% game has really been rolling. I think I can get less than 5 hours for my first completion, which would please me pretty much. Even with a handful of horrid mistakes. Then I'll do a second, for sub-3...
I think I need to improve on the boss battles (Draygon and Ridley), as well as Maridia.
I know I'm eating up time missing random jumps and what-not. I think it's ironic how I can do all the speed tricks perfectly, mock-balling and moat-shinesparking, wall jumping like mad etc., yet I miss random jumps or hit an enemy.
I guess it just goes to show that I'm not lacking in the skill or technical department, merely my experience with the game and memorization of every room.
I should have a minus-forty-minute time by my fifth run-through.
I may even attempt to beat Smokey's 0:38 single-segment run...
