sorry, i messed up there. i fixed it and moved that key to a later point in both routes.
you should still shoot the light block the first time you pass though that area.

You can't go backwards into Torvus; the statue will be in the way, and even if you could pass it there's an invisible block stopping you from going between Upper and Lower Torvus until you kill the Super Missile pirates.

My God this game is full of little gotchas...

Yeah, I give up on the Agon first route. You'd end up wallcrawling back from the Agon elevator (if there's even a SW there), seeing as we can't leave Sanc through the front in a timely way and can't enter Torvus at all.

I take it 7% has some truly spectacular wallcrawls in it, seeing what it seems to take to skip the Violet Translator.

yeah. it has some long wallcrawls. that's why picking up the translator is faster. same with the seekers and grav boost.

when do you need the violet scan thing?

cuz you can use the SW to skip losing items to wall cral right to agon thats a speed trick unless you need the violet thing somewhere and i cant think of where you do...

The Violet Translator improves your spelling and grammar. You're required to get it early so that people can understand you.

There's several Violet gates in the way later on when you have to get back into the Great Temple... I have no idea whether it'd be faster to get Violet instead of wallcrawling past them though. But remember, you can't go STRAIGHT to Agon if you want a PB to use to get into Sanctuary.

Also no, I haven't really been doing any test runs. :\
