The Speed Gamers started streaming live video game marathons for various charity foundations in March, 2008, and have raised a combined total of $125 thousand dollars in the past 2 years.

In celebration of their second anniversary, they're going to have a 72 hour Metroid marathon, raising money for the Halton Autistic Family Support Group. From March 12th at 6:00pm CST, to March 15th at 6, they are going to have the streams uploaded to their front page, including a commentator, above a flash chatroom you can use to talk to the aforementioned commentators.

Metroid Metal is donating CDs to give as raffle prizes during the marathon, and more prizes are going to be announced as it gets closer.

Their biggest concern is filling the 72 hours. I'm pretty surprised they decided to do it BEFORE the release of Other M later this year. :^/ Other than that, they're probably gonna be finished beating the series normally by like Saturday night, and are gonna spend the rest of the time on other run types and Pinball.

Race along if you like. :^)

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I have to admit that I'm a little selfish when it comes to these, and I usually watch them without the intention of donating Embarassed, but I just love the ideal.

Having said that, the fact that they've raised 125,000 is fantastic, and I wish them every success. (With the people less selfish than me...)
there's an easy way to change that, you know.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I know. Embarassed
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Hope they're better at the games this go round.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
A good way to fill time would be to get a dude who's only played Madden his entire life and make him play Metroid 2 without any reference materials.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
That was pretty much what they had last time. :(
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Sounds like money well spent then.

I figure you meant that jokingly but they practically are doing a blind run of Echoes, and one of the guys scheduled to play it gets really motion sick at certain games...Echoes included. ;>_>

Also in their latest video log, I am going to be playing for them. I couldn't let them blind-run ALL the games. ;^)

Tell your friends about it. If they donate, it's basically just as good.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Oh god a blind run of the worst game. They will never finish.

Actually, I'm not joking at all. I think I'd almost rather see someone epic fail then someone totally rock.
hahaha. if you keep donating then they can't stop. awesome.

They technically are sort of practicing, but it's only just so they don't get completely lost. They're still thinking it should take them about 15 hours to beat Echoes.

The rest of the games are pretty much being handled by their best players. Although I doubt they're gonna sequence break Prime, it's still only gonna take like 3 hours real time.

I tried to do the math based on the time estimates I remember them giving, and by my calculations, they're gonna have over 36 hours to spare in the end, if they have absolutely terrible luck, and that includes their blind run of Echoes.

i'm not sure it took me that long the first time ...
metroid fusion probably took me that long when i first played it. >_>
I can't remember how long it took me the first time I played through Echoes.  I think it was around 10 hours - it's easy to get very lost in that game.  Fusion I think took me about 4 hours the first time.
30-40 hours for me on everything. yes, really. i learn slowly.
Ay.  Well, not 30, but at least 20.

Also Ark, do you mean final time in-game, or real time? I generally try to 100% the game my first time through, and I ended up at over 20 hours. Since they're just aiming to beat the game in general, and they're probably gonna have help from the chat, I expect them to take less than 20 hours, but there's still a chance they're gonna die on some of the bosses. I remember being completely lost fighting Dark Samus's final form because I never look directly at the beams people shoot at me, and the scan logs don't help. >_<

Dude you know the chat moves may to fast for anyone to really help them. :P

in-game of course ... i don't sit there with a timer or anything. :P
i got 100% too but i dunno, just didn't take me as long as prime 1. the latter took me 21 hours iirc. it's probably due to my having to get familiar with the concept of a metroid prime game whereas echoze was more been there, done that.

Hopefully, the SM guy trained his mockball skills. :D
Even I am able to pull them off.

Thats only what you think since your mind wants to learn more;)
The last time was fun to watch, especially the 2D Metroids.  My big complaint was that some short games (M1 and Super) were sequence broken, giving them even less screen time.  Shorten the long games with SBs and do whatever with the short ones.  It was nice that they ran M1 twice though.

The three console Prime games disproportionately ended up with the most screen time.  How will this marathon fair?

I'll be watching!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
The Prime games are also the longest, of course they'll get more screen time.
Definitely gonna watch to makes sure Jagger doesn't let us all down.
