You use the wrong ROM Bahamut. You need Super Metroid (E) not (JU). It only works in PAL version.

And it ISN'T a joke if you people still didn't get it. It's the discovery of this year!

Edit: I'm editing all my really big useless posts into this so you don't waste your time reading them. If I should just leave them how they are then tell me and I'll stop editing them, but I think it would be better to not waste room on the page and stop if someone tells me to, than leaving them here to be annoying.
Use the (E) version. It is not a joke, despite the day.

have you tried using the latest snes9x from TASvideos?

I am sorry if that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. The movie played back fine for me and everyone else I spoke to on the TASvideos forum. I can assure you this is not a joke. I HATE april fools, so I for one would not tell you to play this movie unless I knew that it worked.

Bahamut, how about trusting other people here at least?
I had some serious problems with the rom too, but finally managed to get the right one. ( well, mine was named hilariously "Super Metroid (E) [T+Fre90%_Lestat].smc", dont ask me what that means )

I first looked at this as a joke as well and the feeling just grew stronger when Samus started goofing in Ceres, but when you get the right rom, you will see something proper.

Also dont mock his english skills, at least he is trying. (Can I make a bold guess that he is German, judging from the subtitles(?) in that movie? Saturnnnnn!!!  :) )

Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
hahaha... I'm amazed I haven't died from laughter yet.

The movie is a completely legit 13% NBMB run, played on the European (AKA PAL) rom. Well, legit as in it works when you play it, and the trick is reproducable on console. I did use a lot of savestates and slowdown - this was a rush job I wanted to finish as soon as I could. For that matter, I actually just copy and mass pasted the x-ray scope motion to get to Tourian.

As has been discussed already, 10% NBMB is possible, but it would require utterly insane amounts of luck with Metroid power bomb drops. Not console possible.
As has not been mentioned yet, 9% is possible, but it requires that you kill all the bosses. The sheer amount of horizontal bomb jumping would probably make it impossible for a human player, though.

The item order would be:
Morphing ball
Missiles
Bombs
Super Missiles
Charge beam
Power Bombs
::insert horizontal bomb jump across moat to wrecked ship, Phantoon, and horizontal bomb jump to WS Chozo::
Gravity Suit
Speed Booster OR Ice Beam
X-Ray scope

You could fairly easily make 10% though: Collect the Varia Suit and Speed Booster and you can get the Gravity Suit without having to horizontal bomb jump.

Let's see... what interesting questions do I need to address...

The trick is that *all* the bosses are skipped (unless you count Ceres Ridley).
The statue to Tourian is skipped by x-ray climbing up the left side, and a crystal flash to get past an annoying slope that will not allow you to x-ray climb past it. From there, I basically loop around to the bottom and hit the elevator from below. Then I'm in Tourian. I'm a bit surprised nobody discovered that before. :P
I have to go through 11 screens of solid blocks before I reach a pocket of air. From there, I have to position myself under the *left* block of the elevator and bomb jump up to it. There is a bad door block to either side that will take you back a room and stick you in a wall.

Skipping Mother Brain was a real pain though. Obviously, it's related to me dieing and reloading saves, but it's not likely to make much sense unless you know how Super Metroid works.

In case you haven't watched the movie: I go to Brinstar, save in the first available save station, then kill myself. I make a backup of that save and then go on as if nothing happened.
Later on I save in Tourian, right before Mother Brain, then kill myself again. And I reload in Brinstar. I then go down to the room with the fireflies that lead to a missile recharge (you know, that utterly useless path that nobody ever takes because there's nothing worthwhile in it? That one) and kill myself there. Then I load my game in Tourian, glitch to the outside of the room, and magically warp past Mother Brain.

Going to the title screen throws a ton of data where room data is stored during gameplay. Some of that data can be used as doors to other rooms. The only problem with this is that doors generated from random data usually have a BTS of 00, or a BTS that causes the game to crash. A BTS of 00 means it goes to the room on the right, which doesn't do me any good. I had to find a room that had background data that set a BTS attached to one of those generated doors to 01 instead. Which was why I had to go to that room in Brinstar.
I had to be careful about the path from that room to where I used it in Tourian, though. I couldn't leave out the door because the giant elevator room would overwrite the precious 01 BTS. Clearly, my only option was to kill myself and go straight to he- Tourian.

Finally, the trigger that makes Zebes explode is simply entering the room behind Mother Brain - all Mother Brain does is set the timer that kills you. It's a random tidbit of trivia I've only now had the chance to put to use. :D

Doing it on PAL was just an extra plus, so I could skip the Torizo. Getting stuck in the door in Mother Brain's room is easier on PAL though, but I have done it on NTSC. Position yourself in front of the door, then hold run and right 2 frames, release right and hold A for 3 frames, release A and wait 5 frames, then press right. In the next room, just hold down and Samus should land in the door, standing.
The vertical positioning seems to have to be basically perfect to pull it off. I'm sure other timings will work too, this is the first one I found and wrote down though.

Fortunately, the rest of it's not too tricky. Once you're up through the roof, you have to head left a bit until you can jump pretty high without hitting your head. There will be 2 platforms to the right, the second is about as high as you can jump. You need to land on that platform *carefully*. The block above your head will crash the game. You're also standing on a single sloped block. You have to *run* right, off the block, fall off of it, and aim down to land on another sloped block. From there, you can crouch, jump through a solid block, and hit the fabled Room Transition of Boss Skipping. A warning though: If you fall in between the two sloped blocks, you're pretty much stuck: jumping or bomb jumping will crash the game and you can't go anywhere else.

On the off chance someone still hasn't put 2 and 2 together yet: MetroidElitest was me. Und ich spreche etwas Deutsch. Das ist aber nur zufllig. XD
I was wondering why you hadn't said anything in this topic yet.
Obviously something was fishy. The retardedness of MetroidElitest didn't add up with the  knowledge of the game required to invent a trick like this. But for some reason I didn't realize it was you. (In retrospect, of course, it couldn't have been anyone else). Best April's Fool this year. :)

"insta fame!" -- classic
That is awesome in so many ways.  First April Fool's "joke" that I fell for today.  I wouldn't call it much of a joke though since it is, in fact, "real".

I would be very interested in learning how on earth this works in as much detail as you can muster, Kej. :)

Why did you have to loop around so many times in the statue room?

For that matter, why on earth does the game dump randomish data to memory?
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
You want me to change the post topic to something more descriptive now, Kej?
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
yeah, that would be a good idea.
I can't say I had anything planned at this point. I guess I should go back and edit at least the first two posts.

Let's go with "13% Completed No Boss/Mini-Boss Run"
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
So...you have to crystal flash in this...yet you only need 5 missiles, 2 supers and a Peanut Butter tank?
Amazingly Funny and Cool! Hahahahahahaha!  laugh new
You, sir, Kejardon are a fucking genius. extra_smug
Okay, I so can't wait to see this, but I have a couple of problems I hope you guys could help to solve.

With me the movie starts from the very beginning and it desyncs already in start menu. Should it start somewhere else? This was tried with USA-version I think.

I can't find PAL-version rom of this game. If you aren't allowed to give links here maybe PM it to me?

I so badly want to see this.  aiwebs_016
Of course it would desync, it was stated at least twice that this movie needs the PAL ROM.

But is it really that hard to google for it like this or this (or like this) and browse the results on the first page?

Point taken. My own lazyness understood.

*will search without asking any more help*

The best April fools joke I have ever seen on the net so far! Kej is a true genius in both, breaking this game badly with stuff nobody would even dream of, and as a actor to play such a stupid fool like MetroidElitest! His spelling was legendary, and I couldn't avoid laughing while reading it all the time. :-P

Also I really did my best to help Kej to keep this joke alive as long as possible, but despite my efforts some guys were just too smart to believe it nevertheless. :)

Das ist aber verdammt gutes deutsch fr einen Zufall!
I just watched it! Talk about glitching the game to tha max. That MB skip was magnificent too.

Can't wait for hero's planned run.
Wow, this really was a multi-level joke, its almost like some television show that reveals more surprises every now and then  :)

Was this thing discovered just "recently" or did you wait on purpose to fool everybody?
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
This entire post is basically a history of how I found it. Not really any useful info for trying to perform it.

I knew it was theoretically possible to skip the bosses to Tourian a long time ago. I *think* I said so.
February I decided to pin down if there were in fact any rooms that would allow it to happen. It was then that I noticed that the title screen threw all that data into the ram used for room data, and doesn't overwrite it when you load a game. After I realized that, I forgot about skipping the bosses for a while and went to try and skip Mother Brain - I had thought before that skipping Mother Brain was simply impossible. I eventually succeeded in that, after 3 false leads. >_< That took me a few weeks of searching.
It was after I found the first false lead that I decided this would make a great April Fools joke. You'll notice that's when MetroidElitest registered. :P
After that, I started on an NTSC movie of 9% (TASed because there was no way I was going to horizontal bomb jump to the gravity suit). I got to Tourian, ready to skip Mother Brain, when I remembered my original plan was to skip all the bosses. My thought then was something like "Hey, what if I broke two milestones at the same time?". So I looked back to skipping the statues.
There's only one way to Tourian: The elevator itself. The statue room is too thin to access data from other rooms, and none of the data within the statue room can be used to go to Tourian except the normal elevator. So I had to either go down through the floor, or go up.
The floor was too thick to get through, so that was out before I even looked for transitions to it. X-raying up through the ceiling sounded like a good idea, except that sloped block at the ceiling will push you back down if you try to x-ray through it. So, from the previous room, I figured I'd have to enter the room and land in the ceiling, and from there I could x-ray up to the elevator.
After examining all the paths to the statue room, and considering every room in the *entire* game, I found that not *one* room gave a useful door block to teleport above that one sloped block that stops you from x-raying past it. Dachora's room does give a lot of useful BTSes though, but without a door block I can't do anything.
So I turned to other tricks. A crystal flash might work, I figured, since those ignore all clipping anyways. And it did. It just added some to the necessary percent. >_<
I lost the 9% run sometime around here. :/ I might've overwritten it on accident when I started the 13% run. At the time, I knew I could probably get as low as 10%, but I figured that manipulating the metroid drops would be too much to do, so I gave up the bare minimum and just went for less-than-14%
It was already around the middle of March at this time. I started and finished the 13% run uneventfully during Spring Break. During the last half of it I successfully hacked in a new song (this is after about 4 months worth of research, testing, and reprogramming - it just happened to be finished at that time). And then I threw together the sonic pic in Paint literally in the 20 minutes before I posted it, though in a single moment of stupidity I saved it as jpg instead of png. >_<
That was supposed to be a diversion by the way. It evidently didn't work too well.

::edit:: Gah, stop eating my posts because of smilies!
I found the PAL rom after a long search and I started watching... but after Samus got the X-Ray visor and saved, when it loaded again it was out of sync :(.

What I saw was great though laugh new.
Metroid Exp: Exploration - Great, Skills - Decent
Thats because you have to use SNES9x 1.43+i9, available at the TAS site under Downloads.

Edit: I just finished watching it and cant say enough about it so I wont say anything except: What else can be done to this game? I think we are running out of options.
