*gapes*…

Damn, people are going to RESPECT the GameCube after this!  I am amazed at how much the GameCube is approaching the features of the Xbox and PS2 (in other peoples' minds, it was always best in my mind).  First the modchip and replacement case for playing DVDs, now graphics to rival FFX-2 (minus the hot girls).  All they need are the brief flashes of partial nudity (from whom, I don't know)…

YES!  I LOVE THAT!

yeah, nate, you called it.  people are tired of being a little blonde kid in their zelda game.  no matter how many moblins you kill, a ten-year-old is still a little dick in people's eyes.

but with the promise of real content and not a hundred treasure chests and ten hours of relatively disinteresting sailing, twilight princess is looking exciting.  though to be honest, majora's mask was still so unique and exciting, i think it has a lot to top.  and i wouldn't complain much about ocarina either.

Spine Shark, you created bad pictures in my mind. You're grounded.

dude, what?  ten-year-olds are little punks.

except link.  he's a badass little kid, and he's cute as well.  all he needs now is earrings, like oot adult link.

edit: come to think of it...
would metroid be less popular samus wasn't a woman?  well, the real question is, by how much?

though it would get her (or is him the proper pronoun?) out of appearing on 'video game vixens'.

*spits, then vomits*

Well, that's an interesting thought, Nintendo should try a Metroid game where at the end, the character takes off its helmet and it is NOT Samus, but a man.  See how that shakes things up (especially if they call him "she" like they called Samus a guy in the original).
Well if that ever happend i would be really pissed off and stuff.
Yeah, me too.  They were just starting to get her to look good in Fusion and Zero Mission (still not close yet though), and then we'd all be watching anxiously for the end, then vomiting at what we expected to be the best-looking Samus yet.

You've gotta admit it'd be interesting to see how many fans are just fans of Samus…
i though Samus Was a Guy untill i dyed for the very first time in Fusion.

Btw my friend has always been wondering this where did the name Samus come from i mean like Sam-Us Sam doesn't sound very femine to me.
that's actually the best idea i've ever heard for the series's pathetic excuse for a storyline. way to go.

samantha?  that's the first sam i knew of, on 'wishbone'.  ark is only like the fourth sam i've heard about.

besides, in ssbm (and one awesome x-play episode) it is pronounced sah-muss.
Where the hell does the Us come from?

Shamus - Irish Male Form of JAMES. one who supplants

also appears to be the name of a river somewhere.

i don't think 'sam' is the correct abbreviation for samus.  it's already only two syllables, what more do you want?

okay, yeah, fusion told us that samus' nickname is 'lady'...
My internet Nick name is Sally >_>''..

Edit: i have Seen the Word/Name Samus in many places.

...you're kidding, right?  She looked like a freaking Barbie doll.

Re the name, I actually saw someone say that Samus was a feminine-sounding name, or at least a neutral one.  That was pretty startling, as to me it looks masculine simply because of the -us.  But then, I have a masculine middle name and a gender-ambiguous first name, so maybe I should shut up about now.  (I've also gotten my share of gender mixups, though fortunately never in person.)

hello, chanoire?  i'd like you to meet females in video games since, oh, for convenience, street fighter ii...

i actually like the zm ending picture when she's at the bar or whatever, and the 15% hard (where she's in the background of the flames and gravity suit).

but i like her best in metroid ii, and super, i think those pictures are pretty cool.

I always liked the more sleeky Samus than bodybuilder Samus
Well, I actually know a couple of people that dislikes the Metroid series and Perfect Dark just because the main character is female.. So I don't know if it would be LESS popular. :|

All my friends hate metroid because:

A. Samus= Girl
B. They are all sore losers and Can't even finsh one game of the seris
C. They complain the the Prime games make them all dizzy
D. the shaft in metroid classic and Zero mission make them Dizzy(what the flickerbat can make them dizzy?)
E. the bosses are too BIG(wtf?) and hard.
in the name of justice!
oh, my god, bust out the fucking giant's mask, we're going to step on our bosses now.  or we could use the minish cap to make them bigger...hmm...

i think the people who don't like games just because the female is the lead are a pretty significant (not large...) minority.  lots of people i know, you're playing smash brothers, and you pick samus, and they're like 'that's the one who's actually a girl, right?'  you read a gaming magazine 'our agile, feminine bounty hunter returns again in metroid: zero mission.'  you tell your gamer friends you got (some time) on metroid prime, and they say 'so, you're that chick, right?' even when none of them own a gamecube, and haven't played the gba games, or any of them for that matter.

really, lots of people hear 'metroid' and they don't think about space jellyfish, they don't think about a game that's really flickerbatting cool (*resists urge to make a fusion joke*), they just think 'that girl in the big suit.'  in the general gaming world, it is, depressingly, the claim to fame.

edit: by the way, about zelda, i must say that i'm worried that this is the series' attempt to make it back really mainstream.  while i have no doubt that most of the game will be really top-notch like the other zeldas and have a lot in common in terms of puzzles with the other 3d games...

from what i've seen there's not much shot at this game having one thing that i really liked in majora's mask and the wind waker.  that is of course, real characterization.  in tww, the faces said almost everything, and that was pretty cool.  but in majora's mask, every time i play it, i don't feel like the game is just about trying to prevent the moon from crashing into the world.  going around and helping the people is the real goal of the game.

when i said i liked young link, it's partially because he's really cool.  but more than that, the games with young link feature a real charm for me (even on a slightly lesser extent, ocarina of time) because of the way people act around him.  there's not much of that in ocarina when link is an adult (the best line then is the guy's 'young man, you shouldn't be entering people's houses without permission...
then again, this isn't my house either').  even though, to be honest i think the yl part in oot is a little bland because of all the long cutscenes and the dungeons.  i don't know, i just hope that tp isn't way action oriented, ignoring building up a better bunch of 'people' to save along with the world.

god what a weird post.
red chamber dream
That's so odd...I have never met a single person who doesn't like Metroid because Samus is female. My friends just don't like it because it's not a "real" shooter, I guess.
Armor Guardian
Somebody on the SM board at GameFAQs got the game after his friend beat it. He claimed the game was sexist because Samus was female. I guess he never died. >.>

EDIT: w00t! I <3 pagebreaks.
