I like Big Butts and I can not lie
I'm making a topic devoted to the fact that you can't get early power bombs, which I hope becomes a sticky.

I also have 2 movies proving you can't get them:
The first one shows how you can't get the Norfair tank: when you shinespark into a slope underwater, you can't keep the charge (I even ducked on the first frame to prove it), the wall-jump doesn't go high/wide enough to get past the two overhangs, and you can't IBJ underwater

The second one shows how you can't get the Crateria tank: now I have no idea why people thought this one would work, it's blocked by a chain of power bomb blocks (and it is always blocked by power bombs)

EDIT: Heh, many months late but, I uploaded it as a YouTube video:

I sincerely think it's time to lock all those "Early Power Bomb" topics, don't you guys agree?
red chamber dream
There's no need to lock them. People can still post in those topics about their speculation if they want.

That M2k2 guy
I assumed the second one might get locked because seriously, they SHOULD have seen the other one right under it.

Also, thanks pj, you've done your country good.
I even used cheats to get to the expansions and they're just holograms. Even if you COULD get to them, you can't pick them up.

Says you, I got a power bomb using cheats and it works just fine

(don't disable cheats)

I guess they're different. I used cheats to get to the one in the area your ship's at and Samus went through it.

Yup. Until after the escape from Zebes, the power bomb there is just an image. As far as I know, when you enter that room when you can collect the power bomb, the reason is because the area there without your ship is a different room than that of the room that has the ship. After the escape, I guess the new room just overrides it. Until that room changes after the escape, the pb tank is only an image.

Yeah, there are 2 rooms, 1 has a power bomb 1 has an image, the one where it's an image is when you enter the room while Zebes is exploding (although, with cheats you can enter the room while exploding and it won't be an image)
It's still not proven to be possible to get early powerbombs without cheating. What happens if you get them early anyway? If you goto Chozodia with it, does it act like you're in stealth mode?

Edit: I'm editing all my really big useless posts into this so you don't waste your time reading them. If I should just leave them how they are then tell me and I'll stop editing them, but I think it would be better to not waste room on the page and stop if someone tells me to, than leaving them here to be annoying.
Yeah, I used the ship and then used codes to activate everything before hand the second I landed and I could fight the Chozo test. I noticed some weird things.

1) When Samus first gets in, she's suitless for a short time and her suit is red.

2) Because of the sprite size differences, part of Samus' arm cannon is cut out from the reflection in the mirror.

You are ALWAYS in stealth mode if you didn't fight the chozo test.
Tried it with cheats a few days ago.
Also, you can use cheats to activae the unknown items, but you cant get out of stealth mode without fighting chozo test.
If you get powerbombs early (with cheats, of course) the ship is gone, so you cant trigger the suitless samus sequence.
You cant get into the chozo test without being suitless, because you just cant.
Not even with walk through walls/fly through cieling codes.
No SSS = No Chozo Test = Impossible to finish the game.

Hmm? That's odd. I was able to get into the Chozo Test with the suit. (Cheats used for early powerbomb, ofcourse)

Really?
Did you both get into it with the suit?
How?

I just started the game with a cheat enabled to automatically give me everything needed to get there... That's all.

What exactly is stopping you from getting in? Is it that it dosen't let you through the door?

Thats exactly whats happening.
It's just like Fusion.
(Skipping the jumpy plant thing is impossible, a few doors aren't "go-through-able")

I think I might have an idea here. Do the codes you use for the powerbombs give you the plasma, space jump, and gravity suit? (Not in unknown item form) The codes I use give me the items in unknown form. My theory is that the game isn't allowing you in because you already have those items, and it thinks that you've already completed the Chozo Test.

Looks like the only way to prove this is to test out the cheat you're using for myself and observe the differences. What's the code you're using and what is it for? Gameshark, Action Replay, etc.?

Video of mine of me doing the Chozo test in the suit, for anyone that's interested.

That's exactly what happens to me. Apparently if you have the suit without unknown items converted to space jump, gravity suit, or plasma beam, then it is possible to do the Chozo Test. If you have unknown items converted, the game refuses to let you in, most likely because it beleives that you've already completed the Chozo Test.
I don't know if this is the same with those expansions in the game but I hacked a PB expansion into the rom, picked it up, and the game froze.
Just to let you guys know mainly towards metroid junkie.

You can't get Powerbombs without having regular bombs.
