Hello all.

I've been trying to do this for a while now. Basically, the shinespark to get into the wrecked ship has 3 hallways: the one before the water/missile tank room, the water/missile tank room, and the outside. In the water/missile tank room, assuming you enter with your shinespark ready to go, is it possible to fire your beam, shinespark to the right, and have the door already open for you when you shinespark through it?

I'm guessing the answer's no, because a) I've tried about 2 dozen times and haven't been able to do it and b) none of the runs I've watched have done it. Fire too early before the shinespark and the beam goes off the screen and doesn't open the door. Fire too late before the shinespark and you crash into the door before it opens completely.

Any further insights?

Perhaps you should try a Super Missile instead?

Yeah. It's been accomplished a few times with a super missile. I think I've pulled it off with a charged spazer, too, but that was a long time ago and my memory may be wrong.

Beams are too slow I think, as are normal Missiles.  But I could just not be good with them.  This is if you try it where I did.

Smokey got the Missile and shot the wave beam and shinesparked from there to the green door to the Wrecked Ship, so a beam does work from that distance.

From the left door in the room with the missile though, a beam doesn't seem to work (when I tried anyway, I could be wrong).

Nothing seems to work for a fast Gauntlet, either.  I think I tried for about 4 hours to see if I could get that to work, and it never did.  :(

If you have charged wave/spazer, you can actually open the door before you even see it.

Just fire a charged wave/spazer diagonally up from there, and you'll hit a duplicate of the door and open the original door on the left, as well.

Or if you have wave/plasma, from the ledge below that one, jump up and barely land on the ledge so the screen is scrolled up high.

Hold right for a brief moment and fire an uncharged shot diagonally up, and you'll usually hit the door.

And don't mind hte odd lack of energy tanks.. I don't remember why, either.
I don't mind the lack of Energy Tanks, but I certainly mind the lack of Missiles...

Yeah, I remember that, DJ told me about it, but said it was too slow to use.  So I was lookin for a different way.

Well, if you're into perfecting obscenely difficult tricks, you can use that then drop down, run till you hit full speed, and space jump through the Gauntlet.
I've done it with savestates to confirm that it's possible, but I don't think I've ever done it without. I don't think it would be impossibly difficult to pull off reliably, but it would definitely be an impressive trick.

There are no missiles due to reseting the game, btw. Wanted to test a glitch someone recently posted on GameFAQs (Power bomb the door in Ridley's fight, then use the x-ray near the door while he's escaping)

Cool, that'd be neat to try, if I were to ever play the game again.
why not just use a bomb jump and power bomb? its faster.
