Sorry if there was already a thread like this if I didn't know. But I've been playing metroid 2 for a while on GBA emulator in black and white I do have a colour patch but I don't know how to turn it into colour.

I've completed all metroid games in the UK except for Metroid2 (Corrpution isn't in the UK yet till October 26th) I can't stand Metroid 2 much cause of how bad it looks in black and white. Is there a metroid fan who is working on a metroid 2 remake or is nintendo plan to do this in future?

I like Big Butts and I can not lie
There's a colour hack for the game here

I think someone started one, and it looks really good so far, but they really only started it. Also, I think they may have abandoned it. :^(

No no, we don't need a remake of Metroid II. That game has incredible atmosphere entirely due to its graphical and musical limitations.

My thoughts exactly. Which is why, IMO, Zero Mission didn't do the original justice. Its simplicity is what made it great in the first place.

You can still play the originals. I may be interested in a remake. There are parts in ZM that are over-dramatized, but it's still fun to speedrun. The faster pace really helps.

But since remakes are hardly ever as good as the originals, I'd rather they just make orginal games.
red chamber dream
Exactly. Why waste the time and resources on a remake of an already excellent game when you can take just a bit more effort and make a new game?

I just validate ZM because it's so different from the original. I think they both had different goals. The first one hoped you got lost the entire time, and ZM just tried to encourage you to explore, giving you their opinions. >_>

But still, it's not exactly the goal I like. Mainly I just like all the tricks you can do in it. I liked speedrunning M1 a bit, but ZM is just so much easier to get into.
red chamber dream
Oh, don't get me wrong; I validate ZM, too. The difference here is that the original Metroid was not a very good game in many respects and very much needed to be remade to be done justice. That is not the case with ROS.

Ah, If only everyone could appreciate the classics.

I don't just appreciate games because they're "classics"; that's a ridiculous concept. Playing the first Metroid is painful to me; most games from that time are in fact. Lousy controls, poor graphics, and lack of substance would have done it for me in '86, but nowadays I'd much rather play something better.
coral to complement blue
That's what I mean. Most of this generation takes graphics and controls and stuff for granted; they don't realize that it isn't graphics and controls that make a game. (In fact, dressing even the best games up like that can be a distraction).

Hey, I love Flash games as much as the next person. It's not just Metroid's graphics that make it a relatively poor game; it's mainly the fact that it's frustrating to the point of me not wanting to play it again because of how poorly designed/unintentionally difficult it can be. Zelda I is the same way.

Also, I'd argue that controls play a HUGE role in the quality of a game. I will stop playing any game with poor controls, as they directly affect the gameplay. An example of controls affecting the game quality both positively and negatively is Wii Sports. With bowling, tennis, and golf the controls are literally the entire game, as the graphics are certainly nothing great to look at. Boxing isn't nearly as good due to its poor controls (I still haven't really figured out how to play it correctly ... I just sort of swing in random directions), and baseball is in the middle of the road.

Donkey Kong's an example of an old game that I love-- the controls are great and it's always fun to play. Tetris is the same. And many others. Metroid is so glitchy and crappy.

Oh, wow.

Even though Super and Prime come first for me, I consider Metroid a true masterpeice. I find it strange that you consider it poorly designed, because it's that very design that defines the entire series. And also by contrast, I love how simple the controls and physics are. And the music is by far, IMO, the best of the series.

Ah, I see. There are just so many small things in RoS that bother me. Some are the same reasons that 1 bothers me, but it has other things I don't like. Space Jump or Spider Ball, for example, are required in much of the end game (normally), but they take so long, and Space Jump is so tough to use. Even in SM, I still don't like it so much. Then there's the music that sounds like you're hunting in Bedrock at one point. There are also so many shafts that you can accidentily fall to the bottom of that are in need of redesigning. Just adding speed booster and some areas to apply it in has proven to be a major improvement for Zero Mission. If Nintendo does it, they may even give more explanation to the story, like the reason she only has 30 missiles after defeating both Kraid AND Ridley, and the reason she dropped ice cream and scrapped the s'crou attack. Doesn't she lose bombs, too? It makes no sense.

I also don't like Donkey Kong's gameplay.
Well, she'd be missing a whole lot more than just a bunch of missiles, wave + ice beam, screw attack, and bombs if you're talking about that. She'd be missing all her sweet gear from MP3:E since that's the prior game chronologically... but since that's the case then
the gear loss actually makes sense considering it's all taken away when she gets uncorrupted
Look, witty text!
I myself find it quite difficult to get into RoS.  It's impossible to navigate in there, the music is pretty atrocious, I just don't really like the whole "acid that magically disappears when you kill X number of metroids" game mechanic, and other things.

I'd certainly welcome a remake of RoS, especially if it's really, really creepy.  Like, metroids ambushing you seemingly out of nowhere, a much darker atmosphere, scannable Chozo lore to provide backstory, a lot more metroids to kill, and so on.

Heh, just imagine...they're probably kicking around the idea of Metroid: Return of Samus DS. Then people are going to keep making polls to see if people think it's gonna be 2D or 3D. :^P
Zero Mission had aspects of it that were very reminiscent of Metroid, Metroid II, and Super Metroid.  While not a remake, it borrowed aspects of all those games.

As far as remaking Metroid II, I highly doubt it.  Honestly, what is there to remake???

But then again, the fact that there is still NOT a Metroid game on DS defies common sense.  Seriously... Konami can make 2 really good Castlevania games for DS, and Nintendo is reportedly not even developing a Metroid game...
I think the problem with the 2d Metroids nowadays is that they've got all this convoluted storyline crap, so whenever a new game is made, they feel the need to fill it with said story. In the case of Zero Mission, they even went and filled the old stuff with story.

I liked Metroid Fusion, but it's completely different from the original games; and there is approximatery no way in hell that Nintendo is going to make a 2d game in the style of the originals, because it wouldn't sell (or, rather, it is assumed that such a game would not sell, and thus no such game will ever be made, so we'll never know).

For that reason, I would rather have a Metroid II fangame - the only problem is that there's only been like 3 good fangames ever made, and I've sure never played any of them. What we need is for Pixel (of Cavestory fame) to make a Metroid fangame. >_<

Zero Mission [...]  While not a remake

I wish they would remake Metroid 2. I never played it, and its so old that no one has it. Or they should maybe release it for the Virtual Console.

I fully support the notion that the VC should feature Game Boy games. That would be kick ass.
I would love to see Return of Samus on the Virtual Console.  There's no reason the VC shouldn't be able to host old gameboy games.  It would be much better than a remake as well, as I think everyone can agree that whether one likes Zero Mission or not (I liked it), it was different from the original Metroid.  If Nintendo were to remake RoS, I'd at least like to see them do it right, and make it a 3d shooter.  Yeah, it'd still be different, but that would be the point from the start.  Ideally, it'd be for the DS.  Imagine: a real Metroid game for the DS that actually had Metroids in it!  Shocked

*disclaimer: I enjoy playing Metroid Prime Hunters.  I just don't enjoy calling it a Metroid game.  No Metroids was one thing: replacing them with wanna-be Metroids was another.*
