But I'm saying, why ruin a good game with a remake? I've seen pictures of some remakes, and as well made as they are, they didn't capture the atmosphere that the original did.

Apply that question here:
http://forum.metroid2002.com/index.php/board,35.0.html

Why make remakes? The original gets to easy/boring/unentertaining. So to create a virtually new game with the same elements of the original combats these problems.

Also, why is unentertaining not a word?

That's completely different, because you're keeping the engine and changing the arrangement. People want vice versa. Which is stupid, because M2 is fine how it is. It doesn't get boring to me, because it's a long game and it's breathtaking, despite the fact that it's *GASP* Black and white!

Seriously. You might as well remake Super Metroid. And Metroid Prime. And Fusion. Et cetera.

Metroid II may be fine the way it is, but some have never gotten the chance to play it. Unless Nintendo did a Handheld VC for the DSi with Metroid II, the only option I see is a remake. E-bay would be an option if I trusted the site and its security enough. As for your remake talk for Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, I'm all for any of those options considering how much I would like a new Metroid adventure for the Nintendo DS.

*sigh* Then let's have a DS port for Halo. Because some people don't have XBoxes. And let's do a DS port for Qix, too, because that was only on gameboy, too.

Really, you could just get an emulator, which I know a ton of on here do, especially when they're in the hacking forum.

EDIT: I ordered mine on Amazon for $5: http://www.amazon.com/Metroid-II-Game-Boy/dp/B00002SVEM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1257731403&sr=8-1
once GameFAQs, now Twitch
*sigh*  1) Some people would prefer not to emulate, 2) Some people don't have GB/C/As, nor would bother getting one for one game, 3) M2 doesn't have any exposure aside from people looking into what all's in the Metroid series, and 4) Halo's playable on Xbox 360s, whereas M2's no playable on DSs, the current version of its kind (though Nintendo said the DS is separate from the GB line, it's effectively the next iterations).
But does that really justify a remake? Nintendo could port it to DS for a small fraction of the effort.

To me, Prime is different enough to not count as a remake. It's like Twilight Princess to ALTTP.

All the time I hear about people wanting a remake to RoS. I don't quite understand. Is it because the game is in black and white? Get a color hack.
I don't know. We need more games that are made that simple, and it annoys me when people want a remake for something just because it's relatively old.

Short answer: Simply because GameBoy has not the power to evoke Metroids Potential. I strictly disagree with your point of view here since keeping it would flatten and simplify possible new potential in the 2D gaming world. Actually all the oldschool wannabe ninja-games and other 2D games which require real-time action are poor and trivial in depth, not pretty interesting. Most people think there is no room to innovate or enrich 2D-gaming today because everything is already there. Massive lack in creativity is my only possible explanation for that. My surprising answer is that we actually live in an era that can fill void deep grounds in 2D gaming, rooms are open, now we are still away from the sealed future where everything is covered. Especially 2D related is not finished simply because 3D took over and with all the more horse power AND the more sophisticated input devices some new decent potential was forgotten, giving room to design 2D games like they would never be possible before, more organic and richer in depth.

There might also be people claiming shinobi3 is the best 2d ninja-game ever. But thats how world works, if you feed people with "garbage" they will shit garbage since those are their standards. I can actually tell that this game does nowhere deserve to be called a"ninja-game". So btw. sadly since no one else does I am also developing a 2D tournament ninja-game which finally deserves its name and sets a wholly new quality-bar for all the wannabe ninja-games out there. The progress is kept secret and when it will hit the public release ground you will see that all the 2D ninja-games equal primitive mario-platforming compared to this. So it is the other way round: real-time action was always too simple(and ironically in fighters too complex and indirect, personally just quick hands shall not contribute to improve players potential) and it sometimes even seem to get more primitive. Someone needs to evolve it.
It is actually sad to say this, but you would understand it if you were in my position.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Hey everyone allow me to tell you about this game I am making it is the best ever you will shit bricks when you see it because no one understands video games better than me. I have put years of science into it that is why Metroid II Return of Samus needs a remake.

correct
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Also you can't see any of it yet becuase it is too advanced for you at this point but rest assured the science is so great that the game cannot be less than the greatest ever. Seriously guys it is amazing, just wait till I deem it safe for public release, but don't criticize it because science and also you are too limited to qualify for such action and I'll also pull it back into the secret shadows and tell you about how great it is more, this is why we need to have a remake of Metroid 2.

Well, Metroids unrevealed potential equally compares to ninjas unrevealed potential. That is truly sad.

that is already the common case, especially with fighters, if you want here the truth. Many people love games for certain reasons but I know only few people who are capable of truly critizing killer-instinct(not to mention Tekken)to be actually a hopeless game for serious competition. No, no, not because they suck at it but because they are true pros. Also I dont expect you to love stealth, experience it or leave it, useless to fill a bottle that is already full.

Metroid 2 Return of samus is a great game and it's atmosphere is what would be important as far as remaking it is concerned therefore it needs to be taken into consideration.

In fact i wouldn't mind seing metroid 2 on an old 16 bit console. The graphics would be colourful, astmospheric and more detailed. To really capature the essence of a growing old gracefully game such as itself i don't think remaking it for a newer console would do it justice. They'd just beef it up too much and turn it into an interactive movie. Like so many games these days. Even if it was still 2D !!

Can i just add that Metroid 2 had a particular art style unlike all the other metroid games. Who still owns the original game boy box with the instruction manual ? I do. It had really beautiful sketches and drawings of the creatures and objects in the game. Really put me on planet SR388 that did as a child. Fond memories indeed

Oh good grief. I'm a bit late to this one, but:

1) A remake does not magically overwrite all the original copies of the game. If you hate the remake, the game that you love still exists and IS NOT AFFECTED IN ANY WAY.

2) Just because you, personally, do not want to see a remake and are inexpicably offended by the idea is not a good reason for Nintendo not to make one. If there is demand and it will be profitable, it will happen. If not, it won't.

I wouldn't mind there being a remake. The idea of a remake is to capture the brilliance of an old game whilst making it more accessable by relaeasing it on up to date hardware. Metroid 2 would be a great candidate for a remake because it's difficult to get hold of. Even more frustrating for new metroid fans who want to play it. But at the same time you wouldn't want the developers to give these people ''a different game''. They have to at some point draw the line and say ''well we gotta be faithful to the original here''

I haven't read this topic because fuck you guys, but I will say that it bothers me when people say that 2 NEEDS a remake, with the tone that it's inadequate in some way.  I wouldn't mind if it got a remake, mainly because it would mean a new 2D metroid, but the original does not NEED a remake.  It's a brilliant game and it does a fair few things better than any other game in the series.
But it's easy to make an argument for wanting a remake bad enough to use the word 'need' and without saying one bad thing about the original.  The original is totally awesome, and that's why I would like to see a remake.  Adding better graphics, controls, more gameplay, and any other innovation that is available today that wasn't available back then is a good thing, imo, because I love that game and want more of it.
Armor Guardian
