Cook of the Sea
This is argueably the hardest Metroid to get good enough at that you aren't dying at every turn, so who has surpassed the difficulty and beaten the Brain?
Thread title:
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Once you get the Screw Attack, the game is downright easy.  :?

I found ZM Mother Brain to be far harder than M1 Mother Brain. If you've got 3 tanks or so full before entering Tourian you can just waltz right through.
i think it's extremely difficult...but then again i'm terrible at this game.  it took me 8:41 to get 100% on metroid fusion  Crying or Very sad
and is it just me or does toozin have a new...avatar is it called? (i'm somewhat new to forums) anyway does he have a new one them picture thingys every second?

Damn missle doors...  Wink
It's wierd, but despite what pretty much everone says, I thought ZM mother brain was pretty easy.  When I faced her for the first time, which was on normal, I beat her easily.  I've never been able to beat Metroid I mother brain without cheating (although I never tried, I saw that I would have died several times).  I guess I'm just wierd like that.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I nearly beat it today, except I died on Mother Brain because I got pinned between two Metroids in a corner at the bottom of a shaft earlier in Tourian.

Basically, I'd bomb one off, get up, realize I still have the missiles on (after firing a few times on reaction), get caught again by the other, bomb it off, quickly switch to the Ice Beam, get caught by the first one again, bomb it off, freeze the one I just got off, get caught by the other before I could freeze it, bomb it off, freeze that one, the other one unfreezes in the process and latches onto me....

Needless to say, it sucked, especially after how I blazed through the rest of the game not hearing the warning siren once..... Crying or Very sad

I can get through the Metroids easily now, seeing as how my password has full missiles and I've blasted every missile door and Zebetite.  When I get to the blue hatch right before MB, I go back and blast the last two Metroids over and over to fill up on health.  I can get into MB's inner sanctum with about 200 missiles left and full health EASILY now, but I can't seem to kill the brain.  I'm getting really frustrated by the un-cleaned up Screw Attack programming stuff where it just isn't reliable to use in MB's chamber.  I mean, it taes a second to activate after you jump, it turns off very quickly after you start descending, and I've even taken damage by a rinka when I hear the sound, see the spin, and see the flash.  The game tells me that the Screw Attack is on, but I still take damage occasionally.  Frustrating.  Does anyone know how many hits MB takes?

I was counting, but then I died....
Cook of the Sea
That's a fairly effective way to make someone lose count.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
I have...

And Mother Brain takes 32 missiles, 33 if you count shooting the glass.
I haven't conquered it yet. I'm at Kraid's hideout. I think he's hard. I have four energy tanks. I tried grabbing the energy tank the room during the battle but for some reason, I didn't go in the slot.
I have. I made it through faster by using that cool trick I found on Kraid.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Okay.  I just beat it.

And I gave those two Metroids that pissed me off some quick and painful deaths.  Twisted Evil
I beated it. Screw attack makes things SO much easier.
Cook of the Sea
It would help even more if the physics of it weren't so glitchy.  But yes, it is helpful.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
It's helpful that the game physics are so glitchy?  What?  I don't really understand your wording there.....
*rewords*

The screw attack is helpful, and would be even more so if its physics weren't glitchy.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Oh.  Okay.  Gotcha.
Cook of the Sea
Hmmm, 32 hits?  I must have gotten close to that on my last attempt.  If you do damage to her, leave the room, and come back, will she be at full health?
Metroid is so hard it's not even funny.  Hahahahahahahahaha!  Well, I guess it IS funny. Laughing
Um...I once got to the first missile tank without dying. Then I died 2 seconds afterwards. Forgot to save too...and I've beaten both Kraid and Ridley on different fileswith the narpassword code
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Mother Brain's damage will stay if you leave, but only if you get Missile refills from Metroids.

If a Metroid drops an energy refill, Mother Brain goes back to full health.

Huh? That would be utterly random... sure you not confusing with the theoretical low percent, where if you don't get a missle from the Metroid, you're forced to leave Tourain, resetting MB's health?
I've beaten the game a few times -- the first time being when I was four.
