Where should any% speed runs end?
First ending (3)

Discuss.

I personally think they should go all the way through the second ending, since that's the true end of the game. It doesn't even kick you back to the title screen after the first ending, it just drops you back at your ship. Doing the final hallway full of enemy battles and Phantoon speedily will add a bit more challenge as well. In addition, since 100% runs will have to go through the second ending, having any% runs do so as well will add an element of comparison; how much longer it takes to do 100%.

first ending.
you get a completion time after beating the game the first time and can check your percent in the menu after that. the postgame content is useless to do if it isn't 100% imo.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I'm no speed runner so my opinion doesn't mean jack, but to me it only makes sense to go to the second ending. I'd be kinda like stopping in Zero Mission before the Zero Suit segment otherwise.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I think the first.  A couple of reasons: One, that's when the credits roll, which gives the impression of the ending; Two, there's no story attached to the Phantoon section, so it doesn't feel like part of the game, and is very much there as an optional extra.
Second ending.  Only because you'll have to reset the game to get your time if you end at the first.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
You have to do that with lots of games, though, so it's nothing unusual to have to reset.  What's strange is that this Metroid chooses not to display it be default.  Maybe it's another snipe at the speedrunning community?

can't you just wait until the credits play and then look at the menu? all the other Metroids are about the same, except this one lacks the final time screen.

the ZM argument kinda makes sense but that game's ending and credits come at the very end. the thing before the stealth is just an escape sequence and that would be comparable with mp1's escape sequence since it is an escape that occurs way before the actual ending.
lol no way
I voted 2nd ending. Phantoon is kinda cool and stuff.
I like turtles.

Because Phantoon is totally important to the story in Super.  He's about as relevant in Other M as in Super, considering you have to defeat him to beat the game.

Personally, though, my main reasoning for second ending is that you don't get the obligatory self-destruct sequence otherwise.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
What do you mean relevant to the story in Super?  He's draining power from the Wrecked Ship, and you have to defeat him to restore power, so you can access the ship to obtain the gravity suit.  I'd say that's pretty important.
Time bomb set get out fast!
Second ending gets my vote, but don't hold your breath. Prime Hunters has an almost identical situation, and for some reason SDA allows any% to stop at Gorea's first form.

They don't take "snipes" at us. At worst they're less than accomodating, which is just as well because we get mad when they accomodate us on purpose.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I is just messin'.  It was discussed recently that they'd not only broken sequence breaking, but also put in some guide that it was foolish to try and get things early, so 'snipes' it is. Wink

Prima is a load of crap. Everybody knows that Prima has the tendency to make stuff up. If you are taking them seriously...

EDIT: Um... I am honestly not sure which one...
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Here, a question, then: do Prince of Persia 08 speedruns end at the credits, or do they do the bit afterwards? Other M, being in a similar situation, should follow precedent.

Didn't Phantoon have some attachment to Mother Brain? I don't see any reason to discount the missing item retrieval from a speedrun. I had been under the impression that it also saves the game after you beat that. Note that after you beat it and load back in, you have as many items as you had picked up in that segment, plus all the rooms you had traversed in that segment appearing on the map, and the hall leading to the boss being cleared out.

If nothing else, the Pirates were aware of Phantoon. The access-to-Tourian statue keeps track of whether he's still alive.

I think the super metroid guide described him as some kind of alien ghost haunting the wrecked ship and interfering with its electrical systems.

Nope.

Well, your intentionally poor grammar confused me into thinking you were talking about the previous post.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Do you not read them in order?  Zeke mentioned me mentioning 'sniping'.  I mentioned that it was just a jolly jest, based on another conversation from the forum, and me saying "just messin'" threw you?
No. It was the "is". I was confused because it wasn't 'am'. I thought you meant 'was'.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
But "I was just messin'" or "I am just messin'" would equate to the same thing. Razz

Someone said that it has to be the second ending cause of the obligatory Escape Sequence.

So does that mean Prime end at the Frigate? No. Does it mean Corruption does not end at all? NO. Does this post hold any relevance in the end? NO.

Voted 2nd cause the first one didn't end in a boss fight though. It was lame honestly.

Corruption has an escape sequence, or rather a countdown. When you have to stop the Leviathan from impacting Norion.
But that's at the beginning of the game, though.

Wait, can you actually fail that?  I thought it was scripted.
