Those energy units from Super Metroid and Zero Mission. How the heck do they restore health and where did they come from? Are they some kind of DNA things? I've been wondering this for quite a long time.
Thread title:
My theory is as follows:

The programmers decided that Samus needed a way to restore energy in case she'd sustain damage whilst adventuring.  Instead of putting them in blocks Samus could bust with her fist, they put them in enemies which have a certain statistical probability of dropping them as well as missile containers depending on the situation.

I wanna know how she carries 250+ missiles in ONE SUIT!
Sarah:  The programmers decided that Samus needed to carry more than 5.
Well crap, that explains it XD
i like to think it's energy -> matter conversion.

E=MC^2 ?
Not the matter stuff again!

yes.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I like to think that they're item drops in a video game.

Do I get a cookie?

you get metroid 2002, just like everyone else.

That is how I have always thought of them. Never payed too much attention to this fact.

A metroid 2002 cookie? Wink

Ok... on topic, I never really thought about the energy... they were always just 'there'
I like the idea of the energy being the same energy the metroids absorb.  Since Samus's power suit and metroids were both made by chozo, the both absorb the same type of energy
(paraphrased from another poster on the board...  in Metroid Queen and Prime topic)

in that case the pirates are blind. One of the pirate data recordings says that they haven't managed to identify the energy that metroid drain. and the balls just float around everywhere. And not only in monsters but also in boxes. And then its beginning to make sense because those boxes are the space pirates supplies (according to some other pirate data) so basically the purple orbs are just a representation of supplies.

after reading the metroid E-manga, it shed some light on metroids, and on samus' suit.

Alright, in prime, as you just mentioned, the energy that metroids feed on has no physical manifestation, yet every enemy has it.

Now, this is just a theory thats heaviy supported by the e-manga, but it appears like this:

Every creature has a certain type of energy in it, it starts with "A" i don't have the translated manga with me at the moment, so i can't find the exact name

Anyway, when you kill an enemy with the power suit, the little glowing energy LEFT BEHIND is this "A" and the chozo technology allows samus to absorb it into her suit to make energy.

The same chozo technology is what allows metroids to DRAIN this "A" out of enemies before they die (killing them in the process)
Samus suit and metroids are running off of the SAME EXACT ENERGY. I don't think that you can see it without samus' visor though, and for some stupid reason in zero mission, the space pirates didn't drop any.

..think about it.
Cook of the Sea
Wow, I was just about to quote you on that very same post!  It's still in my "Copy" button!
next time i get in the chatroom, im going to pester tim to get the translation hosted over at Metroid HQ.

Its actually the second e-manga that mentions that in far more detail, but i just had someone translate that for me (and only certain lines) so i don't have a translated version of it, which is a huge shame.
Cook of the Sea
Where is this E-manga you keep talking about?  I'd like to see it.
well, the japanese version is here:
http://www.metroid.jp/ecomic/index.html
even if you can't read it, you can understand a decent amount from the pictures.

I happen to have the first one translated (Ouranos from the chatroom sent it to me)
its completely 100% canon as well, which is why im so interested in reading it, espicially because the first one was really good.
Cook of the Sea
Help me!  Where is the thing?  It's all in Japanese, except for tantalizing words like "download" which take you to pages with cryptic pictures and file types and I don't know what going on!

:D
