in case you are wondering what my avatar is: its a fractal in case you are wondering what a fractal is: its a selfsimilar mathematical object i case you don't know what math is: that would probably explain why i never see you around.

its an image which looks like itself on small scale (so a sandwhich wont do). To be honest i don't know the exact definition, even though i study math for 6 months now.
if you look closly at my avatar you can see that there are 6 different collored triangles. And if you look more closly you'll see that every of those 6 triangles looks exactly like the entire picture (maybe upside down). Thats what a fractal is. If you look at the one i posted in the art section you probably won't see this effect. that has 2 reasons: 1)the scale of repeating is too small 2)it's art. I've modified quite some stuff and added multiple layers (3 layers and 2 masks) to make it even harder to see.
however if you would zoom in on the white part of the image you wil eventually see exactly the same image. even though the colors have probably shifted but that can be changed back

But what's a selfsimilar mathematical object?
/me loves my geometry class.
"parallel lines"
I already chat with a math profesor online. HOW COULD SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE MATH!!!
some people feel that looking at a good fractal is like looking at the face of God, or at least looking at a microcosm of His work. this is basically what Einstein thought.
lol you would be suprised. This year there was a new record of 1st year students at my university. No less then 21 (!!!!) math students
Heh. I have a friend who's a 1st year maths student at a university with about that many 1st year maths students. I, however, am a 1st year student at a university with hundreds of maths students. Although that could have something to do with my university being the best for maths in all of the UK a couple of years ago.

Ow I didn't know that. Intresting though. I just loved fractals ever since i found out about them.

Well could be the UK. I live in the Netherlands. Most of the universities with a math course have about 10-30 first year students this year.
there are 3 kinds of people. those who understand math and those who dont. others may say there are 10 kinds of people. those who understand binary, and those who dont.
i just think something should be done about the hotdog vs. bun situation in this country.
And to answer the question before it gets asked NO there are NO Christians killing Christians here. It's a gang war with ppl using Protestant and Catholic as their gang names and no more.
I thought there were less Americans here than is "usual" for an Interent community, but I checked the memberlist, and even though half of us don't specify our nationality in our profiles there are WAY more Europeans here than I thought. 60-70% Americans is closer to accurate than some of you might think.
