I don't think 3D would be good for Super Metroid, unless they get a lot of luck.
prime is basically super in 3d.
Excluding Screw Attack, Speed Booster, infinite bomb jumping, Space Jump, wall jumping, and bassically all the things and little tricks/glitches that make Super the better game. Still, Prime did something right to miss all that and still be one of the best games ever.

I got that feeling early on in Prime because of the whole ceres-like intro, but felt it was lost with the introduction of phendrana & phazon/phazon mines. Not to mention the lack of kraid or lower norfair.
when i played super, i didn't feel like anything on it resembled prime.
i had way more Fusion/ZM flashbacks.
when i played mp1, i was thinking more in the likes of 3D zelda games when comparing it (also, i didn't pla super until 2007 and had played prime more than 1 year earlier)
When I first played super on the day it came out, I kept thinking how much better it was than original metroid.
When I first played ZM, I felt like it was a cross between metroid and super metroid.
When I first played prime, I really didn't care for it much because I couldn't get used to the idea of a metroid game without acrobatics. As time went on and I played through it a few times, I began to appreciate it as an awesome game in itself, without comparing it to 2D metroid.
