The 3rd dock in Skytown - that gives your ship the grapple ability.

Well, before you get there the canopy or whatever is raised, and if you have your scan visor on there, the supports show red and the top shows blue even if you scanned the previous canopy at the 2nd dock.  BUT... the Aurora unit starts talking straight away and you can't scan during that point, and as soon as it's done you can't scan as the whole lot goes down.

Basically I'm just curious as to what it says and if there's a way to scan it before it goes into the ground.  I like to scan EVERYTHING, even if it ends up disappearing.
Thread title:
I tried to scan it too >.< I don't think it can be scanned... Maybe if some pros tried it....
Try scanning it from far away enough that the AU won't start talking.
You can scan it before he talks, but you have to inch forward very slowly (plus maybe do it from the side; IIRC I went left from the door). Save the game somewhere first.

I'm like that too, I scan everything in every state since scans go with you from game to game. I still sometimes find things I haven't scanned.

There's this one place on the valhalla, near the end where a metroid is carrying a dead pirate, drops him and he fades away. He's still blue to me since nothing happens when I try to scan him.

Protip: after you beat the pirates while protecting the spire, scan everything after every time you do something. Especially when you're about to use the escape pod, you get new info if you keep scanning it, until literally the moment you use it to take off.

Also in bryyo, be sure to go back to both shield generator rooms to scan the seed's status etc., especially when the shield has been destroyed completely. It updates on both ends. The amount of optional text in the game is crazy.
Wow, cheers for all that. I got both Bryyo places and I will get the spire on Elysia this time through.

I did try inching forward yesterday.  I still can't stop AU from talking though!  I wonder... is your ship fixed before AU is connected to the network?  If so then you can backtrack to the main ship dock, go and get the screw attack and then return to scan the 3rd dock whilst AU still isn't networked in.
Those locks are the same exact thing on the landing pad 2.  It will just say "These locks are in place, bring Skytowns AU online to unlock them"  or something like that.

also kip, I think its a gender neutral AI, not a male.

They are described in the teaser and beginning as having "male, female, or gender neutral persona's depending on the needs of those living around the facility" (or something along those lines)  Since skytown is all machine there is no need for the AU to have a sex.
Yes but like kip I want it TO ALL BE GREEN.

And Elysia's AU is defo male.  AU 242 is gender neutral.
242 is the female.  Elysia's is Gender neutral.  1:  242 sounds like a woman.  2: Elesyia's AU sounds like a ... well,  homosexual.

also did you read my edit to the post?  thats the better explanation as to why its a gender neutral
Your edited post makes sense but at the end of the day, the Olympus one sounds neither here nor there, whereas Elysia's sounds male to me.

One could also further that and and say that if they did intend an AU to become Mother Brain (but then scrapped the idea) then Valhalla = female, Olympus = neither and Elysia = male, just for balance.  As it is if I recall the secret,  message from Valhalla AU is by a male AU buy hey it never made it to Mother Brain did it?

But I don't think the military would ever have need for a female AU.  Only in businesses and socially IMO.
yay, lets argue opinions more ^_^

Olympus' AU is CLEARLY female, high sharp pitched, compared to the monotone metro sexual speaking one in sky town.  Does anyone else want to give some input?
Every Bit Counts
Why are you argueing about the genders of the AUs throught the game? Argue about that!
go spoiler tags since this topic isn't marked spoiler

Funny how all this started because I said him. I said it because I didn't know the genders, so usually people say him by default. Same thing with calling the last boss him.. but maybe you could say it's a girl because DS is in it (when the first form laughs, it sounds just like DS).

Speaking of which, what is the last boss from MP? If it was a guy, does that mean he had a sex change once he absorbed the phazon suit?

And groovemeister, I just got ship grapple on my file a couple days ago or I would try to make a vid of scanning the thing. But if you still can't get it after a while, I'll see if I can make one with the next file. Also let me know if you scan that blue pirate on the valhalla. I never tried killing the metroid before it drops him, but I don't see why that would do anything since trying to scan him at all breaks your lock.
Anywhere, everywhere
I always called metroid prime and dark samus female.

Also I think this is how the au's are.
242- female
217- male (or neutral...it's hard to tell o_O)
313- male
Metrtoid Prime gender irrelaven but if it produces Metroid offspringh then I suppose female would be suitable.

I'm listening out for Olympus' AU (I forget number) to reassess gender but I'm sure it's neutral.

kip - I did the spire today and actually had checked everything last time and nothing new was blue or red; it was all green, nothing missed!  ^_^

Thought maybe it was time dependant or something the way you wrote it before.

A video for the canopy scan would be great for my next playthrough as that's all I'm missing.  I'll save before the Metroid dragging the pirate in Valhalla for you and quadruple check that it can't be done but I do think it might be like the switch you shoot that saves the marine from going through an airlock at the beginning of the game - you can scan it but it never gets to the end of the scan.  We'll see anyway ;)
Funny, I scanned that pirate just fine, got some text like

Target Bioform is Deceased
Cause of Death: Puncture Wounds

Or something like that ^_^

You can scan that. Just start scanning as soon as possible.
Attempted more than once.

Will try on next playthrough though.
There are soooo many things I haven't scanned yet. I'm missing one lore from pirate home world and like half the phazon creatures.

And for the sex of metroid prime, I would definitely have to say female because of how she looks in her final form in prime1.
The AUs are not sexual creations at all, which means every one of them is neither male nor female.

In the game, AU's are always referred to as "it." Leave it at that if you must.

OK, if you could do a vid of getting the dock scanned that would be great.  You don't have to start a new file slot, just replay a completed game as all I need to see is the scanner actually lock on to it before the AU starts talking it so that I know that it's possible.

As someone already mentioned, the pirate that the Metroid was carrying in Valhalla  is scannable and I've caught him twice.

One thing that you may have missed is that in Phaaze, there is a creature at the very bottom of 'Drop Shaft'.  It is scannable twice - once when intact and once when you kill it.

Chances are that you've landed in it and had to kill it but it is possible to land in front of it and then scan it.
just made the vid actually.. I know it took a while, but I didn't forget. ;P

I remember what was so weird about it now. Not only do you have to get close to where he talks, but you have to lock on specific parts to be able to scan it. Even then there's something randomish about it.. that's probably why you had trouble.

The landing pad cover is a lot easier to scan than the security locks. For the locks, you have to get almost up to the point where he talks (or at least I did). Then keep trying to scan different parts until it goes through. If it never lets you, inch forward a little more and try again. I kept to the left, don't know if that makes it easier or harder.

Pretty sure I scanned that thing you're talking about both times. I also tried to scan the 5 eye monster after he dies but I don't think it has anything new. Hard to tell though since you fall immediately.

I found a new scan on my last playthrough. It was the hand scanner in the last room of the demo trooper sequence (with the berserker knight and other guys). Apparently it has something different to say during the fight other than terminal is online/offline.

On my last play, I tried to get that pirate again but he never even showed up. I never saw a metroid carrying anything.. maybe you have to go there at a specific time or something. I know the valhalla has different enemies at some points.

I'm guessing either you have to go there as soon as you get nova, or you have to go to the leviathan first before trying to get the code. Or maybe you have to fight the hatcher. But I'm pretty sure I've seen the pirate before when I didn't do any of those.. I just need to get him and I think I'd have everything.
Well, cheers - at least I know I can get that now.

RE the 'demo trooper' bit, I'll try the hand scanner too.  Cheers. :)

Actually that's reminded me - make sure you always scan the hand scanner on the train terminals in the Pirate base; you get an 'inactive' message until you scan the thing next to it which tells you that it's just been activated.

If you are talking about what I think you are talking about, I have twice seen a Metroid come in and pick up one of those small clusters of phazon tanks that you can blow up for refills. I didn't notice it until teh metroid was almost out of view the first time so I missed the scan, but the second time I saw it come in and pick up the tanks... I don't remember there being any new scans though (assuming you have already scanned both a metroid and the tanks already)... could be wrong though.
He's referring to the Mertoid carrying a pirate; I think you can't miss it because it happens when you've got all the way to Control Room or Control Room Access, and at that point the ship doesn't change any further.  Just be quick to spot it and also watch out because there are lots of Phaz-Ing in Control Room and if you fire a lot you may incinerate a dead GF trooper on the AU wreckage before scanning him.

God it's great having people as anal as games as I am.
you guys..... if you go to those landing sights BEFORE you get the message, you can scan them...

I will have to make a vid when I restart the game yet again.
