here's a quick attempt i threw together:

http://biospark.paragonsigma.com/zero.mp4

sorry about the shitty quality. keep in mind that i did this quickly to give people an idea of how close i am; i've gotten closer before. i'm about 12 frames off, but i'm pretty sure i can shave those off. i lost 2 frames on the first jump, many frames on the first landing/second jump, 3 frames on the second landing, 1 frame on the third landing, 2 frames on the fourth landing, and 2 frames on the last jump. yes, the last jump is necessary.

so, i can potentially save about 16 more frames. i'm almost positive that i can save those 12 frames and get 0%. stay tuned.
Thread title:
weird. guess this would change how you would make stuff for sda since 1% could no longer go on the site if you submit a 0% run.
not afaik. 1% ss should still be a valid category. i don't plan on doing a 1% segmented. also, my plan is to implement 0% into a 0% hard mode segmented run.
ahhh yeah i didn't think about segmented vs ss. good call.

Wow, that's really close. I remember back when this was first found, and being able to see it come full circle and end up working in a standard run would be awesome. (Not that I could ever do it myself.)
the pause abuse method is pretty much the only way to do that first part quickly without losing any time. the first jump and landing is a bitch though. pretty much makes or breaks the attempt. unfortunately, the last part is a bitch too, because i have to do an extremely short and well-timed hop, then press b and a consecutively. if i do do this, it'll probably take thousands of attempts.
hey nate, do you know how close w_d got? iirc he didn't get this close (keep in mind the old estimations are probably inaccurate).
I didn't even know people tried this before.
If I remember, it was discovered to work on a TAS, but even there it required no room for error and you had to make each jump perfectly. That's why everyone suspected that it would be impossible to do on the GBA since runners would have to be incredibly skilled and extremely lucky to pull it off.

It was this topic if you're curious: 0% Solved?
nah you don't have to be perfect. there's plenty of room for error afaik. maybe that was true the first time it was done but of course that's never the end of the story. a lot has been found since then and tdk would be the one to know.

i don't remember about w.dawgs. i could probably find the videos of my attempts if i tried hard enough but you're probably not interested in that. i was going to suggest searching the forum for w.dawgs's stuff but i remembered he was on irc so it's possible it was never even posted on the forum ...

nm, found something: http://nate.quandra.org/Skip1missileprogress.avi

and another one: http://nate.quandra.org/0percentprogress.avi

edit: these are w.dawgs if that wasn't clear.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
It's 7 frames or error you get, I would exactly call that plenty, and 1 of those frames is saved by the tiny jump at the end (I don't think it's worth the risk jumping for too many frames to be honest)
i got somewhere around 8 frames of error. it hardly matters though, i just need to be fast enough. the tiny jump at the end saves two frames btw.

w.dawgs' second video there seems pretty close to mine. i guess the difference will be if i actually do it!

My testing only gave one frame for the jump, but if you got 8 frames of overall error, then I'll trust your findings over mine
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
woah. that's some crazy stuff.

hopefully 0% can be finally achieved. mp1's 21% was solved so i bet this one will get a solution too.

It should. Getting past the missle expansion is one thing, but getting past the bosses, well... Thats hell all over again. XD

I tried this on the actual GBA, still having trouble... Just the dumb D-pad, and my jumping timings for each ledge going up in that one room where the shine sparking begins. If it's possible to get past that, then the run could defenitely be achieved on the handheld. Also, what is needed to play GBA games and GB games on the GameCube?

GameBoy Player.
Look for it on Amazon or something, it's an attachment to the bottom. But be sure to get the disk it's supposed to come with if you seek to buy it. Without the disk it's worthless.

People have done 1% runs before, so having five less missiles shouldn't change things up too much in the long run. But yeah, I did one of those a while back and I remember the pain that some bosses (Yakuza / Nightmare) dished out. Still, with this community I won't be surprised once it's finally achieved.

lol. getting that missile expansion is 100000x harder than anything in the game. i've done 1% ss runs a lot, so surely a 0% segmented run can't be all that hard.
i imagine he means not getting it.
oopz. thanks. i think i wanted to say something more along the lines of "getting that trick."
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Excuse the ignorance for not having followed this from the outset, but what are we trying to do in the vids?  Is it maintaining the spark charge to the floor of the room to spark somewhere?

It's to spark through a barrier that normally takes Power Bombs (?) to destroy. (If not, an item we don't get until later on.) This would allow us to bypass that unskippable missile expansion in the room below it.

Edit: Looking at the vid again, and me remembering that part of the game correctly, it would take a Super Missile I think to get past that barrier and we don't get those until the BOX fight that's beyond the missile expansion.
Aside from Dragondarch's precedent 1% SS run, I guess you could get around the problem of  0%'s extreme difficulty by allowing "x(%) ending" runs for Metroid games as it's done for several other games, so future runners (using the japanese version) could still submit 1% (segmented) runs under the "1% ending" label.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Except the point is to get 0%. What are you on about?
