Okay, I'm thinking this:

I've gotten Ridley beaten, but not Kraid.  I'm in his lair, though.  Now, I'm thinking that once I beat him, and get teh speed booster, I can go through Tourain backwards.  Or maybe should I not kill Ridley?  Would this work?

No, you wouldn't have enough room to build a boost. :(

Yeah, you have to boost through water.  Otherwise, someone would already have done it.
