Quote from SABERinBLUE:
They did something with that?  I don't even know which emotion I should be experiencing in response to that news.

I know which one I experienced.  I've got no problem with Klingon episodes, but a two-parter to explain a makeup decision?  I've never had any problem with Gene Roddenberry's explanation -- that Klingons always looked like that, they just didn't have the budget to show it in the 60s.

(It was a pretty cool episode, though.  Section 31 was in it.)

So yeah, that's exactly what I think of this Zero Mission theory.  I read the whole post to give the guy a fair hearing, but almost all his evidence is graphical -- which makes it completely worthless.  Samus and her worlds are redesigned every game.  Nintendo bent over backwards to pay homage to Super throughout Zero Mission; shouting "aha!" at slight differences misses the point completely.

Besides, why would we want Metroid and ZM to be separate games?  Two games with the same planet, bosses, and mission is already pushing it.  Three?  Come on.
Beware: off duty ninja
while the person who typed that up put a lot of time into it, I wonder a few things. did he sacrifice basic things like food/hygeine? and I wonder how old this guy really is as he takes the automated message seriously >.<

I didn't think that the person writing it had much of a point. last  time I checked, I don't think that it really matters in the big scheme of things if it isn't a total carbon copy if it claims to be a remake. especially in the videogame world, where nintendo did a good thing and added stuff graphically and all that jazz due to the GBA's superior (to the original nintendo) specs. if they didn't do that when they put out MZM, it would not have done as well, as I think there was a fair bit of expectations behind how the game would look like and how well it would control.

but wow. . . . if I can sit in front of my computer and type a three week long post like that guy, will I be allowed to wear the same kind of tinfoil helmet that he uses to stop the aliens from mutating his brain with thier evil mutation rays? it's things like that guy posted that make my brain hurt. and I'm going to stop typing before this post gets as long as his

I'm playing Super for the first time, and since I've played Zero Mission probably more than any other Metroid game (M2RoS might beat it, though), it's really cool to see all the stuff they carried through.  "Hey.  Hey that ship.  Seen that stuff before.  Cool."
I have a far more likely explanation for the vast differences between Metroid and ZM. (It's been sitting on my hard drive for at least a week.)

Metroid

Space Pirates: Yeah, Samus did kick our butts, but Ridley and Kraid were about the same size as her and did not fly or tower over her, so they kinda had it coming. Oh, and she didn't even have a full energy tank when she arrived. What kind of bounty hunter enters an area unprepared? She most certainly did not set off the self-destruct on a space pirate ship, and she did not commandeer one of our sperm shuttles in order to escape. In fact, we doubt she actually HAD a ship.

Metroid: Zero Mission

Samus: Except for the butt-kicking, total bollocks.
I like that one. Metroid was just the Space Pirates telling of the tale, and Zero Mission was Samus'.

GAME OVER.  Hejira wins.

This image is of the back of the Zero Mission box. It clearly states in two instances that 1. Zero Mission is Samus Aran’s first mission, and below that it states that 2. It is the first of her legendary adventures.

Quote from ZM box cover:
The full story of Samus Aran's first mission finally unfolds...

That doesn't prove much. It never says that it's a completely new story; in fact, it hints to it being a remake, as the story "finally unfolds." Not exactly "clearly stating" something...
Quote from DeathNoble:
Anyways, about the argument I heard on the MySpace Metroid group boards:  In Echoes, there's that one Galatic Marine log that says that Samus blew up a planet full of Space Pirates.  But the timeline shows us that Samus didn't blow up any planets until Super, which is after Echoes...

I don't recall any blowing up of planets being mentioned but I do remember it saying someone among the lines of destroying an entire fleet of space pirates on a planet (that being of course the pirates on Zebes in metroid 1/zero mission).

Laughing

Keep in mind that I've never actually finished a Metroid game, unless you count the Hunters demo. The spider thing keeps pwning me in Fusion and the TV blew up so no Prime.

*clicks link at the top of the thread for the first time*

Good god, I haven't seen such tenous arguments since I got into Pokémon though Rocketshipping, went to Pokemopolis, and then looked back on Rocketshipping.

Dai Grepher: Unfortunately, the majority of Metroid fans think that Zero Mission is a remake of Metroid. That is why I posted this, and it is why I think G4 should mention this in one of their shows or in a short special.

Shocked

*clicks on the last page of that there thread*

Someone quoted DG's entire post. Shocked Exclamation The entirety of original material after the quote was, "You deserve a cookie" - kid you not.

I actually wouldn't put it past G4.  If you had Legion (from Castlevania), but it was made up of game advertisement instead of dead bodies, you'd have the big huge ugly mindlessness of G4.
Has the guy actually played ZM at all? The remake is a story from Samus's MEMORY! Since it seems to be a story being told by Samus, the memory is not gonna be perfect. I think he was just looking for an excuse to make the longest forum post in the world... Rolling Eyes

The music component may seem thoroughly inane and unnecessary, but would they really put in all the same melodies if they were meant to be different?

My favorite part is when he says.  "I first encountered the metroids on planet Zebes.  It was there that I defeated the space pirate leader Mother Brain."  Then says they weren't necessarily the same mission.  Apparently he really, really sucks, because he's never defeated Mother B in ZM.
I think the guy is just trying to make stuff up. I hope he doesn't come here...
Well if he did and he posted that stuff, I would be the first to respond, and post this.

Yes, well, you also defeat Mother Brain in SM, so I'm not sure that's a valid critique of that particular argument.  I haven't reread it, though, so I don't recall the full context.
Why must we hold a one sided debate on this forum against an unresponsive opponent from a different forum?

Why, to enlarge our e-egos and affirm our superiority, of course.
