People have been asking for it, and I've felt bad for putting it off this long knowing this.

Anyway, I just finished putting together an edited version of the video related to this picture, which I've been wanting to do for a while:

The video itself is 38MB and in wmv format. Still not sure if I'll end up putting it on Youtube or something later on, but for now it works. I never did get sound to work when I was recording these either so I put in some X-COM music for background purposes.
Thread title:
One shall stand, one shall ball.
X-COM is really good and people should play it, also now that this thread exists there will probably be no more real X-COM discussion. Cause we who talk about X-COM are a strange race.
Sadly yeah, that kind of thing happens sometimes when a proper topic for something is made. Hopefully we can get a good discussion going at some point though.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Hahaha oh wow that video. That first Snakeman would have gotten me to abort turn 1 no question, he was beastly.

Losing the tank to a single shot really hurts there too, if you have your tank you can at least extend your vision range a bit get some long range shots at the Chryssalids. Better luck on those damage rolls would have helped too, Superhuman or no a Chryssy shouldn't be taking what was that, eight hits from a laser rifle? And only got stunned? Yeah that was absurd.

I mean you didn't give yourself the best visual coverage of the map as evidenced by the first Chryssalid being invisible while killing one of your dudes, but losing the tank and having been undermanned in the first place didn't help that. But yeah I guess I don't know if having the tank and that one soldier really would have made a difference in the long run, Skyranger landed right in the middle of all the Chryssalids apparently. Just an awful, unlucky LZ.

Maybe having Heavy Plasmas could have changed things. Or Blaster Bombs :v

i am playing UFO: extraterrestrials now, downloaded a mod that clear the damn bugs and make the game more like the x-com series (they even put all the races of the x-com in the game, i am having way more fun with it, except that UFOs are all manned by alien Houdinis... they disappear right next to your base, just to reappear the moment you call the interceptor back to base, it's very infuriating, seeing 7 ufos and only catching one so far...

except for that, the game is very good, it have a minimap on the screen, the alien warning stay no matter if you have the soldier selected and you outfit the charcter, not just throw the equipment in the plane and re-arrange your soldiers all the time...
Yeah with the game if I recall I wasn't doing great at the time and I felt like I was forced to take on the terror mission despite having the small squad because I was afraid I was going to get fired if I didn't. And I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen any Blaster Launchers yet so they were out. Can't for the life of me explain why it was late June and I had just gotten to Plasma Pistols though. Guess for some reason I was doing the research in order or trying something new where I was focusing my research based on what was happening during the missions or something like that.

Regardless, turn 3 when the Chryssalids come flying out of those buildings is pure nightmare material. I'd never seen them move that fast and that precisely before and there was nothing I could've done about it since pretty much all of them were off screen beforehand. That one that rushed all the way down to the woman in power armor and got 3 shots in before turning her was the worst one too. Imagine if I had been more prepared and multiple Chryssalids had come out and done that to a larger squad.

In any case, it's probably my most memorable mission I've done since I started recording these because of the pure chaos that erupts.
I do think I should give the UFO series another chance one of these days too. It's probably not as bad as I remember.

just get the grayfiends mod, it fixes the damn bugs of the game and add a lot of things that were missing from the x-com series...
Going back I probably could have just aborted right there after landing since it wouldn't have been as big of a penalty, but I usually don't abort missions at all or if I do it's under the worst circumstances. (I would've aborted if that last one had made it in though. I think that counts as a worst case scenario.)
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Sometimes the mission just isn't worth it, specifically, if it is at night and Chryssies are around aborting is the best option available.

Yeah I think they have even more TUs on Superhuman making night missions even more terrifying. They can come from just about anywhere and kill a dude.

I was just joking about the Blaster Bombs. :v
Hey, you never know. I'd say Chryssalids on a night mission qualify as a time to use them even if civilians are present. Besides, I doubt any civs were alive in those buildings next door anyway by the time it would've mattered.

Assume all civilians are dead at all times. Killing multiple civilians to end one alien is a worthy trade off. Especially if it saves an X-COMer.
Especially true in this case as that also means less chances of a zombie army coming your way.

I do try and avoid that kind of thing if I can though. Even in X-COM it feels wrong to deliberately take down civilians to me. Of course, with how the civilians try and throw themselves into danger all the time sometimes its hard to feel that way towards them.

Decided to kill my run from December and start a new one, only this time everyone's named after people from M2K2! Appropriately enough, I was the first to kill a Sectoid but also the first to die soon after when breaching the UFO thanks to reaction fire. Hey, I couldn't just sit back and command everyone else to die right? Gotta lead by example.

I think the only one of the starting team who's still going after 3 missions (including a terror mission at Rome) is Ark, although Quietus is recovering after taking a nasty shot during the first mission that nearly killed him because of the fatal wounds. Most deaths so far came from the disastrous second mission against a large scout that had landed where I was being absolutely stupid and got 1/2 of the team killed inside the UFO, most of them at the door to the power core. I had sent someone in and he didn't have enough TU to take the two Sectoids inside, and then tried to move another into position behind him only to have the two Sectoids reaction fire past the first guy and out the door in order to kill her instead. He failed to take one of them down and ran back out the door only to have the Sectoids come after him on their turn, shoot him in the back, and then take down someone else who had come up to the door to provide aid.

So I had three guys left, Ark included, when Rome lit up two days later. Had to abort almost immediately after the other two were taken down but he managed to bring back the corpse of a Floater for study first. Should have just landed and left but again that's not really my style.

Definitely a different experience with people from here manning the squads instead of using randomly generated names though. Feels worse when I lose somebody, especially if it's because of something stupid on my part like the ones I mentioned above. Haven't played using names from people I know in years, and certainly never on Superhuman before.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I hope I die/d in the most pointless maneuver possible! Like walking up behind that dude entering the power core. Oh boy have I gotten a lot of people killed by stacking them up at doorways!

Pretty much. I think it was you and Tate with Ark on the terror mission and you got shot in the back by reaction fire after missing a Floater (with Autoshot from a Laser Rifle no less!) that was 4 tiles in front of you right after getting off the ramp.

But yeah, pretty sure it was Opium that got massacred through the door like that. UFO doorways, whether the entrance or any of the other ones, are the bane of my soldiers no matter what I do.

I grabbed a list of about 40 names from here earlier while trying to get people who are still posting and those I recognized even if it's been a few years since they left. You, me, and Kesvalk were the first three guaranteed to be in the initial squad since we're the ones posting here right now. All dead already. I'm probably going to have us come back as clones later on once I start running out of names.

lol, i will try this sometime...

Yessssssss. Even better if it was friendly reaction fire. Going down in true X-COM fashion is an honor, sir!

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Did you guys see the news I linked to?
Quote from Quietus:
There is better news for the XCOMers.  They've now delayed the shooter, to prioritise the strategy game.

yeah, some days ago, but i thought it was two different developers doing the games...
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It probably is, but at least the owners of the game content are prioritising the correct game.

who wants another FPS anyway?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
One of my favourite game types.  It's just a shame that developers have created so many versions of the same game lately.  A revival of the Half Life / Unreal days would suit me fine.
