lmao i just healed a boss up all the way with bewildering grace, when i was over halfway through

didn't know that was even possible ... time to cheese her with soulstones i guess
So, after about 30 hours, I can safely say I'm dropping Octopath for now. It's just not doing it for me. The game is too banal. I'm gonna try and beat DMC3 over the long weekend and then pick up Dragon Quest XI on Tuesday.

man i'm still loving it. just got my first two advanced jobs last night... having sorcerer practically makes battles a joke
red chamber dream
i've basically been playing it all weekend.. @ 65 hours now

still have 3 whole stories to finish, and a couple chapter 4s
red chamber dream
dragon quest xi looks pretty awesome though, i'll probably pick it up
red chamber dream
oh man runelord + sorcerer is totally broken

so is the saving grace skill, which lets any character be healed above their max hp - i put it on all characters, so when one dies i just revive them with a large olive of life, which brings them to 9999 hp

makes every single boss a piece of cake
Went back and played through breath of the wild on master mode again.  This mode is so much better than regular mode that it makes normal mode seem useless.  The only reason to ever play normal mode is if you're going to play the master sword trials. They're basically impossible on master mode unless you just want to run and throw bombs for very long periods of time.  The weapons they give you all break before they do any damage, and their health replenishes constantly, so throwing huge numbers of bombs is the only way to get through it.  I give up when I get to the parts where you just have to throw bombs forever.  It took me more than 30 minutes to kill 3 weak bokoblins in the 4th area!
been meaning to start another run of botw, but don't get to it because i have this huge ass backlog of rpgs that all take forever to clear.

kingdom hearts ii basically requires one to get the plat trophy to unlock the secret movie wtf
I like turtles.
IIRC if you beat it on Critical Mode you can waive most of the optional content normally required to unlock it.
that would still leave you with lingering will and the org xiii refights which are already a pain on proud mode.
dq11 owns
Yes it does.

ughh i want to play it, but i probably won't get to it until next year

still gotta finish the last boss of octopath tho
red chamber dream
turns out cyrus is trash late-game, primrose is where it's at
red chamber dream
ok i'm playing the xc2 torna dlc, and there are wayyyy too many cutscenes

it's like holy shit, the story isn't even good
Haha. Try playing Gears and/or Saga and THEN try saying that about Torna.
red chamber dream
i'll pass and continue to say it about torna

i think my next jrpg will be tales of zesteria. i haven't played any of them since that one came out, though i hear it's one of the weaker ones. i might just sprint through it so i can get to berseria
People hate that one, though.
Like, Berseria is pretty fun, but everyone I know who's played both has told me to steer clear of Zesteria.
red chamber dream
same, but i got it for free on ps+ so might as well try it

i finished octopath 100%, with all characters level 70-80. it got a little tiresome near the end, after i had finished all the main stories but before fighting the last boss. there's a ton of sidequests that don't give you anything good once you're at the end of the game, and i found myself skipping through a lot of text at that point. it could be because i played for large, multihour chunks though

the last boss was great though, and i love the flexibility the game gives you in building your party. most characters can play any role well. my final main party was tressa (runelord), primrose (sorcerer), alfyn (warmaster), and ophelia (starseer). it's what worked best for my playstyle ... and alfyn is completely broken.

i just wish there were more level 50-60 bosses to fight

still, would definitely recommend to anyone with a switch

I've heard that the story in Zestiria is ehh, and they actually ended up improving on it in some ways (specifically Alisha's role) in the anime series.

So it's a Tales game? :v

I've been replaying Mass Effect 2 and, I know this is a supremely hot take but, that game holds up! 3 fixed a lot of little annoyances, though, and I usually end up wishing I was playing that when I'm fighting.

*ba-dum TSSH*

Okay, I don't actually know much about the Tales series, honestly.  I've only played a little of Phantasia and Symphonia.

And I've watched all of the Zestiria anime.  It started out excellent, though I wish it went on for longer.  The ending felt like it came too soon.

Berseria seems neat though.  It got previewed in a two-episode bit in the first season.

Anyway, I recently picked up Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy.

It's a dungeon crawler in a modern-technology-horror-sci-fi type of setting.

The game's interface elements are kinda arcane.  Like, imagine a typical fantasy dungeon crawler, with your usual palette of setting lore terminology and character classes and character stats to customize and a bunch of items (including crafting), but then change some of the names to something for a sci-fi setting, and then abbreviate half the stuff.  Now write 90s-translation-quality translations of the item/ability/spell descriptions -- they're usually good enough to figure out what something does, but you have to think about it a bit sometimes.  This could potentially be fixed by a mod, except the game hasn't even gotten enough attention to have a FAQ on GameFAQs.

Though the silver lining of this is that even finding info on the internet can feel like a discovery, and it's got a bit of that classic mystique to it that games had before you could look up on the internet and find out exactly one mew glitch worked and why all the others were fake.  Like, I'm trying to look for info on the internet about what this one message means, one that's actually unlikely to be a translation issue but rather just some cryptic puzzle I haven't yet figured out, and I'm actually coming up empty.

Meanwhile, the game itself seems actually pretty fun once you learn what the abbreviations mean and how stuff works.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I haven't played a ton of Tales games either but what I have played tends to have a story that kinda drags and meanders and then you kill god and ok I guess.

Also something something Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality!
