ANKOKU

Poe-kuh-mohn
Yeah that's about how I pronounce it.

Though I stopped playing after Silver cause I was getting pissed I couldn't catch everything in one cart.
I think the best approximation of my pronunciation would poh-kay-mohn.
The E has an accent mark, so it is meant to be pronounced like the spanish e isn't it?

nah it seems like they just added it so english speakers would know to pronounce the e at all, ie it's not "poke mon".
in japanese it's not a problem because they'd pronounce the e regardless.
I thought it was a misplaced apostrophe. Pocket Monsters => Poke'mon
That's probably what it was, till they realised what ark said. Also, don't they still call it Pocket Monsters in jp?

how could it be "misplaced"? you have to know what you're doing to type é on a keyboard.
in japan they call it pokémon too btw.
I'm talking drawing board here.

Poke'mon

"Hmm, it's better, but looks strange. Won't people just say 'Poke Mon'?"

*a wipe of the board and a few penstrokes later*

"Pokémon! Genius! Get 4kids on the phone!"

guess i'm not sure why they'd put "poke'mon" in the first place. usually apostrophes like that are used to indicate stress, and in english the stress in pokémon is on the first syllable. basically they did the é for the same reason some people write "animé" -- to show dumb english speakers that you're supposed to pronounce the e. i don't think it was some haphazard decision.

For me the stress in Pokémon is hearing Ash Ketchum's voice, as per the Dutch dub.

Wait, people... people say anime as "anim"?

My god. I... I didn't even know...

Heh, I'd say that it's more likely that someone pronounced it eh-nah-eem (long "i" in the second syllable).

You mean you guys don't pronounce it as pee-oh-kay-accented-e-em-oh-en?  Dang.  I'll save effort in future.

gladly, this isn't a problem in brazil =)
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
i would have preferred if they stuck with "Pocket Monsters" when the series expanded outside japan. sounds way cooler than "pokemon"
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I stuck urmom with my pocket monster and it was indeed way cooler than pokemon.
