Like reputation or something?

Reputation meters are terrible on forums, and it wouldn't be useful at all on this forum.
amusingly, karma/reputation was one of the lead features in invision power board 3.0. i will probably have to implement it eventually but it's not high on the priority list.

how would this work in your mind? posts by that user don't appear? or they appear but they're blank?
I've always though of user rep as irrelevant(is post count not enough? Usually there's a correlation between the two, can we not assume that someone with a high post count would have a high user rep?) and I've seen forums where its' abuse and peoples' reactions to it have lead to banning of established and genuinely respected members.
I see. You've got very good Forum software running. It seems like a mix of SMF and Aceboard (Something like that). One thing, though: There should be a "Latest post" or "View unread posts" button per topic.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
nate, a compromise on the rep thing might be to include an option to toggle if all users can use it, or only mods. Rep might actually carry some weight if mods are the only ones handing it out, and we'd effectively be able to ignore it entirely here if we chose to.

Or I suppose you could make it an option to totally disable it, but I do kind of like the idea of mod-awarded rep.

There already is. It's the icon to the far right.

rep would likely work much like the other stuff you see on posts: admins set the default (whether it appears or not), then users can hide or show it if they'd like. that's how avatars, post count, custom titles, personal texts, etc work now. there will eventually also be a checkbox in the topics and posts section of the admin panel "Users can change topic and post settings".

information about the latest post of each topic can be seen in board view (when you're looking at all the topics in a board) all the way on the right, and clicking the icon there takes you to the latest post.
in unread view (clicking "unread" at the top of the page), those icons take you to the first unread post of the topic rather than the last post.

Is it possible to modify the Unread page to show just how many posts you've missed?

Cause I just checked mine, and it said I had missed 28 posts, when I only missed one.
It's rather misleading.
Or was that section of "post count" really just supposed to be how many posts are currently in the topic?

Also, the "New Post" box still doesn't disappear once you have posted.

*edit*
How can I change the number of pages displayed before they collapse into a drop down again? I know I was able to before, but I can't find it in my Profile or Appearance options. Cause I currently have it at 20 and I'd much rather have it at 15.

The very far right? Where it normally has the "Most recent post" (Regardless of if you have or haven't read the ones before it) button?
why would you want the new post box to disappear after you've posted?

Well just thinking about "regular" forum usage and not the "IM Speed" Forum usage, it gets in the way. *just tested the +/- size and that shrinks back down so no probs there*

You've posted. No reason to have it up anymore.

But for the 'IM Speed' ones I can see it being "needed", cause you don't want to have to re-click post every 30 seconds.

Also, I updated my post with a general forum question.

That still doesn't make any sense. Even on a standard forum you wouldn't want the post option to vanish at any point.

toozin: he's talking about wanting the post box to collapse upon submitting a new post, not removing the "new post" button entirely.

sabata2: this is a matter of still thinking with your previous mindset. taiga forum is not like other forums; the idea is for people to talk back and forth more like instant messenger. of course, if a user would like to just post once a day they're certainly welcome to.

the post box is designed to not get in the way of reading the posts on a page, which is why it's so small. this is also why the default avatar size is 64x64 - the more posts you can see at once, the better.

yes, in unread view the icon of a white page with an arrow takes you to the first unread post of that topic. in index or board view it always takes you to the last post in that board or topic.
in taiga forum you can hover your mouse on any icon to see exactly what it does.

not sure what you mean by any of this. the number in brackets beside "Unread" is the number of topics with unread posts. in index view, the numbers "x topics" and "x posts" represent how many topics and posts are in each board.

you have to change this while in either board view (looking at the list of topics in a board) or topic view (looking at posts in a topic). if you're in board view it changes the paging thresholds for board view, and if you're in topic view it changes the paging thresholds for topic view.

basically, what's in the appearance menu only affects the type of page you're currently looking at.
looking more and more like making that context-specific was a mistake. either that or there shouldn't be things with the same name that reveal different options depending on context.
red chamber dream
the reason it's context-specific is so it won't be freaking huge. i'm sure i can make it more clear what that menu does.

yeah, can't stick it all together either. have to find a better way. maybe tabs, like an apple preferences window? default tab is the currently open view?
red chamber dream
ah yeah that would work. guess i'll look into that asap (check your pms btw).

Ark hit the nail on the head for what I meant.

Quote from arkarian:

I know that the number in the brackets is "topics that were updated".
I was talking about something like the following example.
"What Games have you completed?" is the topic, it has ~38 replies. It is 2 pages long according to my posts per page.
Lets say I have already read the first page, so 20 of those posts.
Can the "Unread Posts" index view say that I'm missing 18 of those posts, instead of all 38.

I also just found something interesting...
When I was gathering a data sample for what I just described above, I only viewed the first page of the two, yet the entire topic disappeared from my "unread topics" index. I hadn't read the second page, but it is now gone.
*edit
Just tested it again on an 8 page topic, and even the social topic and both had the same reaction.
red chamber dream
yep, that functionality isn't in yet. it will be though.

Neat. Guess I'm a bit late, but I commend you (Nate and Ark) on the new forum. It'll take a bit of getting used to, but I'm really liking a lot of the new features and the overall simplicity.
thanks. lots of great new stuff coming soon. hopefully the simplicity will last forever.
just make it load faster. >_>
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but the profiles of regular users are a bit messed up. Under "General", the info isn't aligned properly.
