Hold down R.
that's a pretty easy way.

only other thing i could find online said hit up and right or left at the same time... i don't even think that works.

I think it does, but it has to be really precise. Maybe if you hold right and up, spin-jump, shoot, and hit jump in mid-air? A lot harder than hitting jump and then R immediately, but gets the job done.

Also note: Unlike ZM, you have to spark the direction you're facing as you hit jump.
on the keyboard, i had success using the trigger button. I don't recall more than 0% success doing it with the directional keys.
I.e.--- Shine , then tap jump followed rightafter by the shoulder button assignment thatmakes samus point diag-up
where is the beam combo?

what section of what zone, i love hunting, just downed ridley and golden torizo, have all beams now

Edit

missing one guardian in maridia, have 2/3 in this zone, the one from the broken tube, and the one on the east side.  its quite a bear trying to find this one

Maridia, search for a huge room with a lot of sand.
Hi.  New Member here.  8-)

Perhaps I should've emailed Drewseph directly about this but...  I noticed in the Maridia map when the game is paused, when it's scrolled all the way over to the left - there is a long vertical section...  It appears that it's the other end (...the right side) of the map.  I wasn't sure if this was a mistake, or just something that can't be helped.  Either way, I wanted to point it out in case no one noticed.  Embarassed

I've made my way up to the Tourian Base, but every time I play it I get so depressed (for... what hope do I have of winning?), then give up.  :P  So, I guess I can try to get those few items I still lack.

1 Reserve tank, and 3 more Energy tanks (and some # of other missles and bombs).  I've seen a video where it takes using the shine spark, then launching yourself onto a slope with the Run button held, then pressing down to stop and hold the charge, then run and/or spin jump to the next platform...  Crying or Very sad

The hardest one (for me) ?...  The rolling into a ball from a shine spark.  From what I've read it's sort of like -- jump after running, then press down, then do a fireball motion (hadoken grin new  ) right before you touch the ground...?

It took me a couple of hours to finally understand the wall jumping....  After repeatedly doing it for that duration of time.  I almost wanted to dub that gap "Dead Man's Canyon".  Because you'd die of old age before you figured out how to escape.  laugh new

Sorry for the long post.

@ Moozooh.  I tried to download some of those emulator movies.  I have Snes9X v 1.51, and they won't work with it.  I'm sorry I didn't notice it if it was mentioned somewhere...  Which version of the emulator do I need?  OR do I need the other....  ZSNES?

I guess you're talking about mockball. It isn't hard to do normally, although it is harder to do in SMR due to higher falling speed. I'd rather practice it in original SM or with slowdown.

This one should work.

Don't you just need to be "in the process" of morphing as you land? Doesn't that take like a quarter of a second? Plenty of room for error IMO.
The whole "process" is only about 6 frames (0.1s) long, during which you have to land. If on 7th frame -- the frame you finally turn into a ball -- you are still in the air, it will fail. The window of opportunity depends on your jump height and fall speed, and is only 6-9 frames wide overall.

Still, if you practice it for long enough, it's surprisingly easy to pull off under most circumstances when needed.
That's what I do.  I morph into the ball before I hit the ground and I lose my momentum.  Embarassed

I've only broke through one low level dash block (somewhere), where as there were 4 more past that.  :(

Now I'll just have to try it in slow-mo.

Having to use save states makes me feel like a wimp enough already. :P
omg, the mockball took me FOREVER too get down... I think I finally understand how to do it, though. I'll list my "step-by-step" procedure below. The article I read on wikipedia said to let go of ALL buttons while you're in the air, but that can't be right, because it messed me up each time. No wonder, because that's not right, lol  laugh new  Anyway here's the actions I took, step-by-step, to successfully pull off the mockball technique (This is the early missile method in the first room to the right, in Brinstar):

+ Hold down RUN when moving toward the door, and JUMP when going through.

+ Let go of the Directional Pad and RUN in the middle of room-switching (Keep the JUMP button held down).

+ In the next room, when you're at the peak of your jump, press DOWN once.

+ Right as you touch the ground, press DOWN to morph into a ball and hold down the RUN button simultaneously.

And obviously, you should be holding RIGHT on the directional pad if you want to go to the right  grin new

...I hope this helps a little, if at all. But that's my process for performing the mockball, and it works every time I forget how to do it. I just follow the directions I wrote down, ^-^;

The tricky thing about a "flat" mockball is that you have to be holding jump as you aim at your feet and morph, so if you plan on breaking your jump earlier, you have to remember to press it again. I usually do so immediately, and aim at my feet almost immediately after jumping (it doesn't matter the time you do it though, as long as you're aiming there before you try to morph). And of course, I almost never release run. But that's pretty much a general rule for SM. >_>
I don't recall seeing this info posted in this topic.  Sorry if I missed it.

What is the max # of Missles, Super Missles, and Power Bombs?

Although I'm sure I won't be able to get all of them anyway.  Like the Super Missles(?) in the lower left corner of Crateria where you have to use the Shine Spark.  The only place I can find to charge up is about 3 rooms over.  Getting it all the way over there will be the hard part -of course,  Unless I'm supposed to do that short distance (stutter walking) Shine Spark Charge to get it.  :-s

This hack can't run on ZSNES 1.51 unless you don't patch the ROM beforehand. You must have the original rom renamed to the name of the patch if you want it to work.

I run everything else on ZSNES 1.51 exept Top Gear 3000 which will only run on Snes9x 1.51.

You mixed the emulators up.

Um, you are in fact very wrong. No version of Zsnes can run Top Gear 3000. Zsnes either lacks the proper implementation of the C4 chip in the TG3000 cart, or doesn't have any emulation code for it at all. Snes9X however does have the code for the C4. It's not perfect but it's very close.

So to sum up Zsnes, near perfect. Snes9X, glitchy sound but good compatibility.

Given the fact that Top Gear 3000 uses the DSP-4 chip and that I just played it in ZSNES, I consider your reply ludicrous. Check your facts.

Just tested it, and guess what? I was wrong... Shocked  Embarassed I guess the reason I thought it didn't work is because it didn't want to get passed the menu's and into the race part of the game with any version before 1.51. Zsnes 1.50 didn't like the game at all[just tested that too to make sure I wasn't going crazy]. The 1.51 change logs didn't mention anything about the DSP-4[sorry for calling it the "C4" earlier] or TG3k. I guess that what I get for assuming... Pardon me whist I extract my feet from my mouth...

SMR still doesn't want to work for me in anything before 1.36, but works perfectly with said version.
Anyway, This correction officially makes Zsnes THE best SNES EMU, in my book...  grin new

Question:
What is that empty room for near the very top of (eastern) Norfair?  Okay, it's not totally empty.  There is a spitting dragon thing in there.  The room kinda looks like a snakes mouth that is open -from the looks of the walls.  I wasn't sure if mentioning this would spoil anything or not.  So better safe than sorry.
are you talking about ridley's head?  as for the empty room, I can't think of an single room that is just empty for no reason....
sounds like rocky area where  the light bugs are. Maybe energy tank under bottom
I suppose I can attach a small pic of the map.  In this room I used the x-ray scope (and I know that's not reliable 100% of the time  :P  ) but didn't see anything.

This is Redesign, not SM =P

As for that room, I can't believe you didn't find anything else in that room... *hint hint*
2missile are the reward..
Bomb or just crawl thru, some kinda hidden thingee. Maybe behind the skull, i forget.

Hey can some one explain me how to get this reserve tank?

I tried to charge the speed down that area, but it seems impossible to reach there since there are no slopes on the way so i cant recharge it.[/img]
There are... plenty of slopes, actually. Here's an .smv (use Snes9x 1.43 and SMR v2.1).
