Now, now, you boys play nice.
Ok, for months I've been trying to figure out how to play a patch, I've patched it, done all the shit the manuel tells me, and even then, the emulator freezes or refuses to play the patch, can someone lend me 5 minuts of their life and please tell me step by step, how to do it? tell it like you were telling a very retarted person, yeah I'm that bad at patching.
I can't explain the intricate details of headered vs. non-headered ROMs or any of that stuff. For me, this is all I have ahd to do:

1) download the patch.
2) rename it to match the name of your ROM. If your ROM is METROID3.smc (as mine is), you simply name the patch METROID3.ips.
3) Load the ROM - it should be patched automatically.

I use Zsnes if that helps at all. If the above does not work for you, you will need the help of one who better understands the way these things work.

Well thanks for the info, but as I have Snes9x I can't really say it'll work, I'll wait until someone with an Snes9x can reply, but I apriciate your help
1. Make sure your ROM is the NTSC ROM. It should be labeled "(JU)" and run at 60 fps.
2. Grab both headered and unheadered versions of the patch.
3. Open Lunar IPS to associate .ips files with it.
4. Copy your ROM so there are two of them.
5. Apply headered patch to one and unheadered to another.*
6. Try running any of them in the emulator. One of them should work.

* -- It's easier than trying to determine which version of the ROM you've got.
i'm stuck in norfair looking for the powerbombs.

i saved it down here, and the only way out i can see is powerbombs or chain bomb jumping out.

-=EDIT=-

I spent like 2 hours bombing everywhere... or so i thought. 5 minutes after i posted, i found the way, lol

Don't worry, happens to almost everyone all the time. Kinda like with Tub @ TASvideos completing Super Metroid Impossible the first time. :P
Re: Appraisal: Redesign's physics are  insanely cool. I love them, for one; samus moves more realistically and can get around quicker. The shooting is an improvement; the bomb timing i don't care for. There are sections of the map that are epic and unforgettable. I could have used parts for my signature, screenshoits of the map, and some would remember that area vividly. .  Kudos œ--> Drewseph.

I'll add that you should actually make *two* copies of your original ROM: Use the headered IPS on one, the unheadered IPS on the other, and leave the third unmodified so that you can still have an unmodified copy for later use.

Actually I think the gravity in the original is more realistic compared to real gravity. Everybody who jumped from a 10 meter platform into a pool would know that. The acceleration at the beginning of the free fall is slow, and gets constantly faster the more you fly down. I think the original Super Metroid emulates the real gravity really good in this aspect.

But video games don't always have to be realistic. A faster gravity cuts down the waiting time while falling long pits, which at least for impatient people is more entertaining that way. For me it doesn't matter that much, as I never really cared about that. I like the gravity in both versions, and I think it's good that Redesign has different physics, since this gives this hack a completely new feeling not only in the atmosphere, but also in the moves.

On the other hand I agree that for example morphball movement, suitless underwater physics, or walljumping is more realistic in Redesign.

Agreed, plummets  started out slow, but did not end up fast enough at top speed. But to come clean, when i read Sephy's text on how he was 'always waiting for her to finish falling' i thought, hm my mind would never go there... i have the old "where you are is where you are", kind of awareness. I suppose what i actually like is the zippy feeling in redesign.
I hate patches, I curse the one who made them, Ok here is the problem I have everytime I want to play a patch, I've already aplied both headered and hedereadless, 2 new files with red hearts as icons apeared in my screen, now, If I want to play those files, the emu says it curropted and doesn't play it, and if I scroll it and put it in the zip file containing the SM copy, I'll just play SM not redesign, so what am I doing wrong?

Edit: I don't think my rom is the NTSC because its .swc so I dunno.
Maybe you should use a different emulator. :)

you know, I am gonna do it, but again, what do I play in the emu, the patch (the file with the heart) or the patch INSIDE the Zip were the rom is?

Don't you use the ROM that you patched?
Yep.
Tried the TILDESOFT Patcher..?..
I've had a number of .smc's that won't patch right (corrupt.. CORRUPTION!,) but most work.
First of all, do you have the NTSC (US and Japan) version of Super Metroid or the PAL (European) version (i.e. what language options does the game give you)?  You need the NTSC version for Redesign.

I'll assume that you've already installed Lunar IPS.  In the directory where you keep your ROMs you should now have (exact filenames will probably be different, but the EXTENSION must match!):
Code:
Metroid Redesign Headered.ips (with a heart icon)
Metroid Redesign Unheadered.ips (with a heart icon)
Super Metroid.smc

I get the impression that instead of the last .smc you have a something like "Super Metroid.zip" (which contains "Super Metroid.swc" and maybe some other stuff).  If this is the case, then you need to extract (unzip) these files.

Now, I think that .swc is a type of "headered" ROM, and that you should be able to freely change the ".swc" to ".smc" (although you may not need to for the purposes of patching).  My guess is that it probably doesn't matter, but I'll assume you changed the ".swc" to ".smc".

At this point I suggest you try to play the new 'Super Metroid.smc" to see if it still works (it will of course be regular Super Metroid).  If it doesn't work, you'll need to find a new copy of the ROM online that ends in ".smc" rather than ".zip" or ".swc".

So now you really should have:
Code:
Metroid Redesign Headered.ips (with a heart icon)
Metroid Redesign Unheadered.ips (with a heart icon)
Super Metroid.smc

After making two copies of "Super Metroid.smc":
Code:
Metroid Redesign Headered.ips (with a heart icon)
Metroid Redesign Unheadered.ips (with a heart icon)
Super Metroid.smc
Copy of Super Metroid.smc
Copy (2) of Super Metroid.smc

Now double-click on "Metroid Redesign Headered.ips".  A window should popup titled "Select File to Patch".  Select "Copy of Super Metroid.smc" and click "Open".

Now rename "Copy of Super Metroid.smc" to be something like "Super Metroid Redesign - Headered.smc"

Repeat the above two steps to apply "Metroid Redesign Unheadered.ips" to "Copy (2) of Super Metroid.smc".  Rename the result something like "Super Metroid Redesign - Unheadered.smc"

Now you should have:
Code:
Metroid Redesign Headered.ips (with a heart icon)
Metroid Redesign Unheadered.ips (with a heart icon)
Super Metroid.smc
Super Metroid Redesign - Headered.smc
Super Metroid Redesign - Unheadered.smc

At this point you should be good to go.  Of course, only one of the new Redesign ROMs will work (I'd guess "Super Metroid Redesign - Headered.smc").

As a final note, I recall that Redesign doesn't work with some versions of ZSNES, so try SNES9X if you use ZSNES and still have problems.
I know I'm a complete noob in this, but hang with me, some time ago, I changed the directory were my roms are, and now its gone, I downloaded another emu, but its the same, I can't find "my games" in the "my documents" directory, so, I can't find those things you said, I really need someone to come to my house and do it, but of course thats impossible, everything is too confusing, can anyone make a rom? if not, can some share the fully patched and ready to play patch of redesign, I'm not getting how to do it and I probably won't in a near future, and you all guys have helped me a lot, I apriciate, but I can't keep on wating your time, if no one  can give me a rom or a patch, then I s'pose I won't play redesign, at least not until someone makes a rom.

To find your files:

Click on "Start" then choose "Search" then "For Files or Folders...".

On the left side of the screen that pops up chose "All files and folders".

In the top box type "metroid".  Where it says "Look in" choose "My Computer".  Click "Search".

Sorry, I think my expresion wasn't the right one, what I meant was that when I open the snes9x and click on "file", then "load game" ussualy a folder containing the roms appear, but some time ago I changed that folder and now its gone, yeah I've looked in each of the other folders and files, and its gone, I though downloading a new snes9x would solve the problem, but it didn't.

No 'open recent' option?  Looked in the trash bin? Hit 'Finder' Icon (= 'My Computer' in Windows) and typed in searchbar for the 'word' smc?
Yeah if you do not have the rom it'll be  quite a challenge to drag and drop it into the SNES9x  :-s
Has anyone made movies of their runs? I'm not good enough with the rom to handle the controls but can someone make a full movie?  Embarassed  :|

I tried playing a bit but got stuck in the beginning. :(

There are some up on Youtube (search for them if you really need to). I advise against this, though. This is meant to challenge players. Keep on playin', see if you can find the path yourself. If you can't, go ahead and ask in this forum. I'm guessing you've found the boots upgrade already?
Do you have to be able to do a diagonal speedjump (Speedrun, crouch, jump diagonally) in order to complete the game?

If you have to... is there an easy way to do it? i've been running and jumping for an hour and haven't hit a diagonal one yet.. =/
