Yes, it is possible!
Im sure all of you have noticed the "netplay" option on the zsnes, however is very hard to make it work.
Thanks to a very simple program we can join a "chat" where we can create a room, and play ANY snes game. In this way we can teach some tricks to our friends, instead of making a movie, uploading and downloading again. Or just for fun, or if you want to demonstrate some noob your awesome skills you can make a room and let anyone join it and show it up.

In order to play you need the following:

-zbattle program: www.zbattle.net
-Zsnes 1.42 or 1.36 (Is better to have them both)
-Internet conection (If you have firewall or router you must unlock the use ports)
-Once you have all this you must install and configure the program (refer to the FAQ in the zbattle web)
-Then you can play any game online, like super metroid, a fighting game, a racing game or wathever you want, but the only condition is that you must have the same rom version as your partner.

Well I hope you find this info useful if you didnt know this. I think is a good idea to share some metroid knowledge

Enjoy  grin new

Zbattle rocks!

I play there from time to time. However Super Metroid, as a one player game, is not really suitable for it except, as you mentioned, to show some tricks to another person. I think there are alot more fun games of choice for 2 player like Super Mario Kart or fighting games like Super Street Fighter 2 or sport games like Super Tennis or even Chess.

It's cool to see someone here is familiar with zbattle. :)
In fact im a mario kart expert, and a very good killer instinct player.

And there is a player called "ultima". He is very good at KI and very good at super metroid too, he was the one to introduce me to this web.
Sounds neat. I'll give that a shot later.
It's not for Mac.

So hrm.
BUMP

hey if anyone wants to play super metroid on zbattle with me thenn let me know in this forum
omegawaffle, please don't bump old topics. i doubt anyone is interested in playing whatever that is, if it still even works.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It does still work, but since Super Metroid is a single-player game, I doubt anybody would be interested.

Yeah, this was one of greatest fun, especially in old days with some room-mates, and where I also headed for speedruns. It reminds me of a funny story:
I practised sometimes just for personal competition and fun to master the first track (single time) with Donkey Kong without actually knowing there was an official racing single-time racing contest going on on some Nintendo-magazines. I picked up the information just by coincidence when it was too late and saw the winner and compared his record-ime to mine in my track. Anyway, it was interesting to see that my time was something around 0,2 seconds better than the record, but I missed a nice side-effect of some sweet presents, lol.
Btw. just if someone is interested: I dont know my exact time anymore and didnt play it for ages, but if it takes more than one minute than I think it has to be the following time: 1:02.68 , it is cool when someone managed or want to manage to do it better and can present it (but please no tas)

Visit my friend redeyedol on youtube (my: jurisnake8). You will see what a true expert is all about taped also some good fights (and I am not judging your friend, just giving you additional info). Btw if you have fun to do time-trial in the first track, probably you have some good results? Would be interesting.

Nice story. Though you should know that the Time Trial records heavily depend on which version you use. AFAIK, on the NTSC version, it's easily possible for a master to get a sub-minute time on the first track, but on the PAL version, it never happened yet. So if you managed to get that 1.02.68 on PAL, that's indeed a huge accomplishment. My personal best on PAL is 1'03''48 btw, done somewhere in the mid 90's.

My was also PAL somewhen end of 90's. Anyway thanks for sharing your info. A last question though: Which character did you use? I recommend you to use Donkey Kong, just for the case you have fun to try it again one day.
You're welcome. I used DK as well, but thanks for the recommendation. Other than the visual difference, he and Bowser actually have identical attributes, including the greatest top speed, therefore it's highly doubtful one could come even close to your time with other drivers anyway.

It is possible to get under a minute on the PAL version.

http://www.mariokart64.com seems to be down at the moment, but you can see a cached version of the SMK PAL records chart here.
For comparison, the cached NTSC chart is here.

The NTSC run is 1.76 seconds faster at the moment.
Wow, last time I checked that list I was sure that the PAL record was somewhere between 1'00 and 1'01. Seems like it either got broken shortly after that visit for the first time, or I confused something. In any case, thanks for the update.

Yeah, under one minute unfortunately if you drive on sand. Thats ugly. Other than that the record seems to need faaar over one minute if you dont know much about the game and this dude taking the pipe inwards is pretty good, he also takes Donkey Kong.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
That's without boosts, though, so shouldn't really be taken as any form of record, although his racing line is still very similar.

In time-trial boost is always performed by start only one time, so I am not sure what you are talking about.

There are a number of ways to get a boost after that.  See here for descriptions.

God this is horrible bug using. I didnt show you a video driving through sand. The world-record something around 58 seconds boosts through sand.
The record looks like something like this:
off-topic, and a really old topic that i doubt people care about. locked.
