Dudes and ladies, I have just finished the coolest little puzzle for screw attack. You've never used the speed booster so much for one item.
Playing through again I'm actually pretty darn happy with the hack. Maybe I don't need to take as long on it as I thought previously. Still gotta get on that music though. Blargh.
Here have a picture. I WUNDAR WHAT BROKE DEM TUEBS GUYZ
That broken tube looks pretty darn great, as does everything else...
Oh and about longest wait for a game, that's definitely Starcraft 2. About 10 years waiting for the announcement, and then another 2 years or so before the game will actually be released :|
Acheron, that looks fantastic. The atmosphere there, the suit colors, the sparks on the edges, just fantastic. Good luck on finishing up your musics and I, and the rest of us, can't wait to play Aegis.
Acheron, i'm pretty sure 95% of us would be content if you released the game without the extra music. Most of us are anticipating this game so highly that it wouldn't matter. Just throwing this out there.
NO*! Take as long as you need to for this hack. The longer you spend perfecting it, the more fun it will be.
*(i hope this isn't released before my hack or the cooldown will be a few months)
I get the feeling that Aegis will come out very close to when I'm done with my work as well. If that's the case I'm definitely waiting for a lot of people to finish it before releasing. But on the other hand, I wouldn't want to finish anywhere near Acheron's release one way or the other since it would either overshadow my work, cause it to be unnoticed or critiqued in comparison with it.

Xaggoth:
Put yourself in my shoes. You're a dude hackin' away, making new graphics, new music, etc. And then some other guy is like, making teh cool hax, and he's saying he would wait 'cause of your work? I'd hate for that to be true. I know there's a lot of anticipation over this hack simply considering the scale to which things are being changed, but that just means I have lots and lots of work ahead of me. If by chance you finish your hack around the same time I finish mine, go ahead and release yours--I'll wait a couple weeks and work on making the little things in Aegis even better before I release. You'd actually be doing everyone a favor, you see. :) And anyone who blames you for "delaying" Aegis would just have to get a life and realize that any prolonged delays for a hack are ultimately good for them.
Anyway, if you have a rough estimate for how long you think it'll be before your hack is done, I can at least tell you roughly when I think Aegis will be done--in a PM, of course, since I'm not going to give any more public release dates.
We didn't even have a taste of what type of music could even be in here, so you can't make assumptions/snap judgements (edit: it's better to say you're trying to presume). But as per spoiler-excitement protocols, I doubt we'll hear it until the next week or two.
If people don't like the music they can easily blast something on winamp over it with the sound on the emu off. I don't even usually play hacks with the reg. music anymore.
Making your own music isn't just something that hasn't been included in any other hack, but IMO it's also so cool that I'd listen to it no matter what it sounds like. Since you insist on including it though, you must have an idea of what kind of music you want in the hack, so I believe there's a good chance it will turn out really good.
Give the hack all the time it needs I say, even though I've had high expectatins from the start like everyone else. As I've understood it you're close to finishing it - that's the time when it's easiest to lose concentration and let little errors slip by.

Is there a way to play the game with only the sound effects on and not the music? I would like to listen to my own music while I play, but I would still want to hear the beams firing, doors opening, etc.
Yeah. I was being a tad presumptuous. ...just a tad. And I also (perhaps -mainly) had the ulterior motive to get Acheron to put up a preview that includes some of his new music.
Work with me people.

This is off-topic but if you have Snes9x you could click on sound from the top drop down menu and turn off certain channels. I just looked at it so I don't know what exactly -what does what-... Just mess around with it to see what ya get. ;)
If you use the other snes emulator... I don't know what to tell you. But I'm sure it would be similar.
Edit2: I think just have Channel 8 enabled for (most?) sfx.
IIRC there are at least 3-4 channels (of 8) that plays sound effects, and I do think that some of them also contains a instrument for the music too, so it is not possible to do it perfectly (the only way to completely get rid of the music would leave you with some sound effects missing).

Yeah, turning channels off will turn off some sound effects, mostly in the later channels, but still. A playlist would be cool but far too difficult to properly implement. I'm very frustrated with writing music in MIDI... not so much that I'd give up but I wish it were less exacting. I miss my keyboard with MIDI Out... anyway, when I'm happy with the music I'll put up a sample or two. I'm too picky right now though. Plus I'm still focused more on tilesets and area design.
