Again, this looks very awesome.

Well, patience for something awesome can go so far. And I guess Cliffhanger's cooled down by now, give it three more or so weeks for Aegis and it might be a good sellout point.
As outdated as it is, I just took another look at the map on the first page.  I have to say, I'm real excited because from the looks of it, there will be plenty of hidden secrets, dead ends and branching paths to explore.  This hack is truly the one that I'm most excited about playing.  As said before, I'll 100% it for you okay, Acheron? :D
I won't let you beat Aegis first like you beat Cliffhanger first!  Evil or Very Mad
Well, if you do, I'll go for being first to 100% it. :D

Some parts of the music have such a strong potential to be beautiful and dreamlike.

Lies! Depending on who discovers the release first.... It'll either be me or Cardweaver.

In all seriousness, I'm most likely to accidently discover secrets, not even close to being the most likely to beat it first.
In all seriousness the first person to beat this game will be either Bolognab or that guy with a gingerbread man as an avatar.
I was planning on announcing my next hack a day early with information for what hour of the following day the .ips would be posted and then having an informal race.  Maybe you could convince Acheron to do something similar.

Not a bad idea. If you release yours first I'll see how well it's received and maybe I'll follow suit.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should do that, and have people record their runs.
Almost happy
I'm so in on that, unless I'm busy which actually is pretty likely =/

I bet Aegis is closer to completion than my hack is.  I'll put more time into it and see how fast I can complete it without sacrificing quality.

Maybe this hack should have a competition edition, after the initial release. Make items harder to find, and don't let players to the last area without all the items.

First one to beat it gets a month of huge bragging rights. =3
I hope it's not released in middle-end of August, I start college then and won't be able to partake in the race. :(

Why can't you just do that at the initial release? I really see no point in making ANOTHER editted game just for competition

Well, the only things I can think of (in general) are what if there was a horrible unforeseen bug that made a hack unplayable and that to have an honest competition the author shouldn't give out hints until the contest is over.  This could make the playing experience for a casual player a lot worse, maybe they would just have to deal with waiting for information though.  Specifically I don't see either as a problem for Aegis, Acheron is going to beta-test the hell out of this I'm sure and if I remember correctly the main path of Aegis isn't going to be overly difficult.

"Beta-test the hell out of this" is the understatement of the year. I am going to beat the shit out of this thing before I release it. That said it's always possible to miss a sneaky bug so I'd of course be fixing it if it came up. Uhm, as far as racing stuff goes, I'm hoping Aegis is interesting and fun enough from start to finish that it'll encourage people to play through again and again, especially since there are several different "intended" sequence breaks available. Interesting fact: Aegis is beatable without ever picking up Morph Ball Bombs. Let's see if anyone finds THAT item route! :P

I think it'll be truly interesting to see a speedrun competition of Aegis. Its multiple paths will warrant a lot of thinking. If anyone decides to speedrun or TAS it I'll eagerly give them suggestions. Hah, the first person to do a 100% speedrun of Aegis faster than me... I'll give 'em a Yoshi doll.  laugh new

We should post competition recordings on YouTube. With audio commentary and annotations if available.

Then again, I hope it has a lot of replay value.

And given if we think the music isn't as good as thought of, what do you prefer we listen to?
Let's not take this too far. All I wanted to do was beat FP... >_>

Please Acheron, don't do anything extra. Just make this a normal hack topic/ hack playthrough. A speedrun competition would make you appreciate the game less, look less carefully, only searching around for the next path? Not what I want.

Okay, fair enough. I'll wait like a month after release before I put the rules forth for the contest. Maybe I'll make them something more... interesting or unusual than just a normal speed run.

Progress update: working on music still. Hopefully I can get Kejardon's attention at this juncture as instrumentation remains my primary obstacle and I think he mentioned he'd be willing to help me out. My vacation starts the 28th and lasts for four (!) weeks so I will hopefully have lots and lots of time to get Aegis work done.
Almost happy

If you just help me find a optimal route, I promise you, there will be a TAS of Aegis :P

A simple idea that would make playing all the bigger hacks more beautiful:

Putting marks in the map shall be possible to remember the places which are of interest.
